This is great, really. ive been searching for something like this for ages, cause im finding it really difficult to improve consistently, with all the factors that can affect you in this game, something like this is so rare. its a real gem :) is there any chance you can make something similar to this for sword/pistol holo as well? :O
Do you think you could make a guide like this for Condition Holosmith? It seems similar-- the opening and photon forge rotations are the same but its much more complicated during the 'cooling down' part of the rotation.
I know this is a years late comment but I just want to say you explained this very well indeed. A shame your channel didn't take off by the looks of it :(
Great video! Very informative without being overwhelming. Also what was that minigun looking rifle skin on the asura at the start. Never seen that before
Hey, i'm taking a break from raids atm so not sure when i'll have motivation to update my guide, but in all cases i'd strongly recommand the PMB hammer build over the ESCU sword one. The hammer rotation is extremely similar to the rifle one
hey grt vid. can you or anyone else point out any other youtubers who go thru rotation explanations for other classes/elite specs? most searches i get are dps golem benchmarks. i'll look forward to your chrono vid
There must be similar vids for other classes around there, but I did it for power holo only so far. I'm thinking of doing it for chrono, which is the class I now play the most in raids, but this one would be harder to explain. Not because the rotation is hard (it s actually easier than most of the dps classes rotations), but because there are many ways to play chrono boon in raids, depending on what boons you are expected to give and on the composition of your squad. I might do it when I'm released from IRL stuff. I know Jaffas made a couple chrono guides, but I assume they are now out dated... you can check tho.
I'm afraid I wont be of any help here. I dont play the sword rotation sadly. It's slightly higher on burst and on benchmark tho, so there is definitely a reward for learning it. Both rotations have similarities tho (in the forge section for example), so if you are familiar with the rifle rotation, I think it's pretty easy to learn the sword one. It only takes time to adjust the rotation to the different encounters, cause the management of the forge would differ. Sry I cant help :/
Hi thx for the awesome guide. I have a silly question. I noticed for skills that provide a green circle for targeting (for example the F2 skill), you don't have a green circle to locate where you want to apply the skill. May I know how this can be done through in-game setting? Also does it mean you lock your aim to somewhere in your screen if you disable the green circle?
@@xiaoda4923 Not when I play holo. I think there are only a few cases where you want to check this, like playing druid on Matthias and making sure you will land you staff 5 right on him when he jumps. Maybe I'm wrong tho, but engie's greenades are hiting the target in all cases.
@@oofskye6019 sure. if I select "instant" as you suggested, does it mean the grenades will be thrown to where my mouse cursor is? In that case, do I have to make sure my mouse curse always overlaps with the bosses? Your explanations are rly appreciated!
This is me just suggesting to cast rifle/grenade/bomb in this order as a mnemonic. It has no incidence on your personal dps, so you're free to start wether with grenades or bombs. Actually there are many fights where it's worth engaging your rotation with rifle 3 and grenade 2 to begin dealing dmg before you get to the boss (like on sabetha or or sloth for example).
Hey, sry for the late answer. The sword/pistol build uses a different rotation and different traits. You can find both the build and the rotation the SC website : snowcrows.com/raids/builds/engineer/holosmith/power/
Hey, yeah, build and rota remain unchanged. pHolo will probably stand in the incoming meta in the same spot it had in the previous one : not the strongest pDPS (catalyst and virtuoso at least will be much higher), but still a strong and viable option.
Hello Skye! Just saw this video and I’m so much appreciated about it because you were killed it ^_^ Want to ask a question though. Is this build still viable for raids and fractals?
Yes it is ! You can even use rifle 4 out of forge mode now as it doesnt knock you backward anymore. Power holo isn't optimal in fractals (in the current state of the game I would recommand playing scourge or firebrand instead), but it is still really efficient in raids on almost any boss. On condi bosses like Matthias or Cairn you can even use it to boost the condi dmg of the squad by taking pin point distribution.
@@oofskye6019 Thanks for the quick reply! Yeah I've been playing scg and fb for a while but it gets me real bored to be honest :D But definitely I'll learn the class and try on the raids! Thanks for the guide again ^_^
There are actually many different rotations for pholo, depending on which weapon you use and which traits you take. The sword rotation is usually played with the ECSU trait (instead of PBM), meaning you want to leave forge before overheating. Also the sword ECSU rotation uses rifle turret instead of bomb kit. In total, the rotation is pretty different from that one I am playing here.
Never left the game ! Still playing on daily basis but cant upload much atm. Thinking of a vid about chrono that might come later ! Tx for the support :)
thanks for awesome explaination. but have still one question, I just think about the arcdps. You could do some good results as showcase. But in reality and most cases - how does it seems compare to other classes in reality? i.e. I play daredevil atm and on golem it seems to be ok, but in reality it seems to be worse than many other dd classes, especially if your raid mates not as experienced and sometimes you lack of i.e. quickness :D
Well the very purpose of SC benchmarks is to compare the different classes. So atm, holo is in a good position, even tho it's still not meta (stacking DHs, DDs or slbs is more efficient on most power bosses). The boons you get in raids is another issue. But if an experienced raid squad, having perma alac, quickness, 25 might and 10 condis on boss is totally realistic. Doesnt mean you will get 35k+ on each raid boss ofc tho
Condi holo exists for that. Ferocity is a huge part of power builds. Like, one of the most important stats in the game. With low ferocity, you lose the ability to do over twice your usual damage due to crits.
Like Tyler said, there is no point in taking condi trait in this build. Power holo benefits from condis through the "modified ammo" trait, but you want to let the condi dps do that job for you :D
Hi!I am a player in China, and I want to transfer this video to players in China. Unfortunately, my spoken English is not very good. Can you make a subtitle, just be concise, so that I can understand and translate it. I will be very grateful if you can accept my request!
Great job. I really like how you teach the rotation by one layer at the time.
This is actually the best GW2 guide I’ve ever watched.
The best holo guide.I learned playing this class watching your old video. Big thumbs up.
Best guide for holo, very easy to understand and informative
Thanks for putting this out. It’s one of the most helpfully clear things I’ve seen about the class. You rock.

It's called "beastslayer". It's a pretty cheap skin you can buy at TP !

What latency do you have? I'm wondering if completing the rotation in time is possible for me with usually 80ms of latency
depends on the raid instances, but usually around 50 ping
Absolutely possible at 80ms. 80ms is actually quite low latency (exactly 0.08 seconds to communicate with the game server each instruction)
oceanic ping enters the chat :D
