Wow! I'm so glad I came across this video. I have a wooden wine box and a deep shadow box with glass and I have had a hard time deciding what to do with them. I think on the wine box I can actually do a scroll saw design and then put lights in the box and it would look awesome. The lid to that slides into grooves. The shadow box with glass, I might be able to remove the glass and possibly slide a thin piece of wood in the grooves and do a scroll saw design on that as well. I'm sure going to check into that. Thank you so much for the idea.
I hope it worked out, and apologize for the late response, Appreciate you watching and hope it came out good for you
I've always liked shadow boxes, the possibilities are endless. Great job Sterling
Honored to have you Like my video, WOW, The Carl Jacobson, I greatly appreciate that, and it was so Nice to be able to talk with you last Sat. on the Summers woodworking Show, Congrates on your new Lathe, looked Awesome Thanks Carl
Nicely done. The new wave of light boxes as of late are really quite spectacular to say the least. The concept allows for any decor to be enhanced by the design (oriental, south western, european and so forth). Using an oriental design, and painting the fret pieces either gold or red, with the frame being black would be an idea.
neat idea, appreciate the kind words
Nice project, really like the light. I need to start using my scroll saw more often. I also noticed you wearing open toed sandals in the shop, brave man, LOL. I can not even make it from one room to another inside the house without kicking something and killing my toes, if I went into the shop like that I would lose a toe in under 38 seconds.
Its a bad habit to have to be barefoot, but I am sure it will take only 1 accident to buy me some shoes lol, just feels better, hot out there , Thanks for watching and sharing
I really do like your scroll saw projects Sterling even though I have never used a scroll saw! I reckon this will become a definite conversational piece. Respect. N.
Thanks Neil, Appreciate the support, watching and the share,
It is a nice project, but my 6-year-old made a great observation when we watched it. My son said, "He should use a push stick to keep his fingers safe."
I agree.
Thanks for watching, and he is correct, Great that he Knows his safety, it will help him in the long run, Appreciate it !!
Sterling, Nice Project! almost fell off my chair from your comment: "I'm a wood hoarder..." I was thinking the same thing while you were showing your stash of scrap wood.
I just can't let go lol, Thanks for checking it out Joseph
Great project, Sterling. I may just have to give scroll sawing a try.
It really is my favorite, peaceful, with Noise lol, Thanks for the Sharing Father Thomas, Appreciate You
Very nice, I found myself whistling while you worked.
lol, everyone in the house is whistling that tune, stole it from Steve Ramsey lol, well, actually , it's You Tubes , Hahaha, Thanks for watching and sharing
The box turned out great. As a "reformed" wood hoarder, the first step is to admit that I had a problem.
I am going to work on a lot of Smaller crafts and use up some wood , I told myself, I will not buy no wood for 1 month, but after thinking about it, I didn't buy 90% of what I got, So I am in good shape lol, Thanks for watching and sharing
Cool, Good Job
Thats really cool, I might try this out later. Its weird seeing a scroll saw used like this, since I only use mine to make 1/2 inch thick gun silhouettes.
I am just learning and i am guessing when it comes to what I do, lol, Thanks for watching
Heh, you probably know a lot more than me. Besides, I only have a $20 scroll saw, and everything I know is from youtube. (my high school doesn't have any woodworking classes, and nobody in my family has ever been into it)
Hate to here this was taken out of schools, and it is a lot fun, so many different things you can do with it, would love to see your work, share anytime on my facebook, Thanks
Congrats on making it in the Drunken Woodworker show! Nice scroll work
Thanks Nick, Right Back at ya, That was Cool, Thanks for watching and sharing
No problem
this inspired me for my next graduation pro thanks!!!
Thank You so much
Beautiful, I want to build a holiday themed one.
Thanks so much, thata a great idea, feel free to share on my FB
Will do, honestly though scroll saw was last on my list of power equipment to get but its getting to be more of a priority. Damn I really wanted a band saw too but there is no where to put half the tools I have.
Great job! A real artist! Thanks
Thanks for watching and sharing, and you kind words

Wow looking really good!!!!!!
I want to be a woodworker for fun, but I need to buy the equipment. I think I will eventually do so, but I think I will start making paper light boxes first to see if I really like it, first.
I wonder if you know about some German woodworking for Xmas decorations? Some of them are really cool; Wooden pyramids and light bow displays called schwiboggen! You have the skills to make an American version- I would love to see how you would make one of those!
not formilar with it at all, so sorry, but thank you for watching and kindness

Great video and a beautifully done project. But what was that tune that was playing through out the video. I loved it. It’s very catchy.
Not sure what the name of it was, but it is in the you tube library , i think the whistle song maybe lol, Thanks so much for watching
Nice job
Thanks for watching and supporting free woodworking content on the internet
Try using rice paper in place of the felt. Great work !
Thanks for the tip, and for watching , I am new to this, and honestly, never heard of rice paper, but I will check into it, Thanks so much

Wow does that give me some ideas. Thanks brother
Thanks for checking it out Rusty, Much appreciated
wood hoarders need to unite
Thanks Aaron, for watch watching and sharing, means a lot my friend !
Great project idea I want to try this, but dude please use a push stick! Type kickback on camera in youtube search and watch what happens to the guy and the piece of wood, it's an eye opener! Nothing to do with me just sharing for safety sake :-)
+Andrew Byron Thanks Andy, That was early in my beginnings , Appreciate you looking out
Enjoyed the video. Like the instructions and music. Plus, I am a wood hoarder too! lol Project looks incredible! Love it! What is the white sheet you glued inside the shadow box?
Thanks for checking it out, it was Rice Paper i beleive, if i can remember correctly lol, Thank You Jo !!
Great project, Sterling. I really like functional scrolling projects. Great use of good scrap, why toss it?
You can make a lot with little pieces, the problem is taking the time to do it lol, Thanks for watching and sharing
Sterling, What a great project. I am thinking about doing one myself, but I have a couple of questions for you. When you cut the dado's for the side pieces, was your measurement 1/4" off the edge? Second question is what is the name of the paper you put on the backside of the image? Great project. Look forward in watching more of your videos.
it was 1/4 inch, and this was felt paper, comes in any color you want, Rice paper works better if its an inside project, But I used Felt Paper because it was going on the front porch, Thanks for the view and kind words
We are all wood hoarders lol
Yes we are Jason, Yes we are lol
Where did you get the pattern nice project
This particular pattern came out of a magazine, it’s been so long ago I honestly couldn’t tell you where I got it, but it was a magazine, I get all patterns from various places most are Internet images
Looking good Sterling.
I keep even 1/16" cut offs. (shim stock)
You are not a wood hoarder. :-)
Thanks Steve, I appreciate you watching and sharing, you can make a lot with little
That came out great Sterling...did you say you did a different design for the back? If so what was it?
It was different, the casing on the back was a Church with a mountain , you can see the Cross , I will share it , At Dark lol, hard to see at in the day, Thanks for watching and sharing, I have a picture of the back of it on my facebook
where did you find that pattern ?
It was a scroll magazine i got years ago, sorry I dont have a link, but you can google patterns that will get you close to these patterns and images
I like it! Very cool project.
You are not a wood hoarder…the wood costs money and you are trying to be conservative. Right? LOL
Thanks for the good video.
Yea, that's it Billy, Conservative lol, Thanks So much for watching and Sharing
Hey there Sterling, what's that paper you put on the inside, is it creche paper?. Great video.
Thanks for watching, its called Rice paper, you can find it at craft stores like Hobby Lobby or Michaels
what a tipe/merk scroll saw
its a Dewalt 788 scroll saw , thanks for watching
Where did you buy your 10" x 10" scroll saw sheets? I can't quite hear what you say on the video.
Thank you.
Michael Bradley
Woodcraft used to carry them, now they are 12x12 pieces, or you can get larger sheets and cut them down , thanks for checking it out
Sterling,
I had one other question I forgot to ask you. How wide is the oak wood you are using for this project?
1 1/2 inch , if I am remembering correctly
Try using rice paper in place of the felt. Great work !
