@@DavionWest , yes FWIW I have teh $95 annual fee one, not the free one. It good for Amtrak tickets and the bonuses you get on Amtrak purchases but for other spending its mid tier for points. If you are riding Amtrak a lot it worth it though.
Just to clarify: The Farley Post Office was converted to Moynihan train station. It’s an annex to Penn Station. That’s where the Amtrak ticket office and waiting room is located. LIRR also has a ticket office and waiting room at Moynihan. The majority of Penn Station is under Madison Square Garden. It’s cramped and congested. Lots of unsavory people loiter there. It’s served by NJ Transit and the LIRR. Amtrak can be accessed from this portion of Penn Station.
Great food choices at Moynahan, but must be very expensive (like the rest of the city)! I live near Albany. There is really not much going on in Albany.
Bro! You really just gave me my next trip in the USA. I adore train travel in Europe so I must give it a try in my own country! Great work King! Your content is A1!
Appreciate the kind words bro!! Defiantly worth the journey, then you can take trains while in Canada. Toronto to Ottawa - Quebec City -Montreal - NYC.
When you leave Penn you ride along the Hudson River, enjoy it, it’s beautiful. Your first stop will be Yonkers. I suggest you get a map and follow the cities along the route.
Davion, nice to see you on U.S. soil! Please do a video of all the smoke break cities you visit in any state you pick. I absolutely love that idea you came up with. ❤😊 Very interesting ceilings at Penn Station. I hope you share a video with us on your trip to Toronto, Canada. Will you be riding VIA rail Canda? Thanks so much for all you do!! I absolutely look forward every week for your videos. Peace and love!❤️📣📣👍
Hey, sadly I didn't have time to make a video, just met up with some friends. More train videos in Canada coming in June. Yes ill be riding Via Rails new trains. Thank you for the kind words as always
Davion, it’s the train tunnels, and the basement from what was left of Penn Station. That’s under Madison Square Garden. They did a beautiful job changing that old post office to be a train Hall. There are still plenty of beautiful old train stations left in the USA. But they’re not in the really big cities. For example, my Amtrak station in Minnesota is in St. Paul. About 10 years, we brought back to life the old Saint Paul Union Depot. We spent quite a few years working on it, bringing it back to life. But sadly like most Amtrak stations. It only has one a day each way. There are still a lot of train stations there. You just gotta know where to look
From experience on trains in the US and Europe, if you're going to be on a train for more than an hour or two, aside from bringing something to do, a book, laptop, podcast, knitting, etc., get some food and drinks for the trip because the on board selection is inevitably going to be limited and expensive. There's obviously no lack of great takeout food options in most cities and towns, and it's usually going to be so much better than what you can buy on the train. The only thing I'd recommend buying on board is coffee or tea, but even then with a thermal travel mug you can buy great coffee before you get on the train and enjoy it all day. Makes the trip so much more enjoyable in my experience. And if you're traveling with others you can pick up all sorts of foods and make it a picnic. But if you do enjoy your food in the cafe car make sure to buy some snacks and coffee in the cafe as it's kind of rude to use their tables without buying anything.
Hubby and I are taking it from Niagara Falls Ontario to New York in January (as part of a week long MSC cruise), and decided to go with coach ($60 one way, business $178 which coincidentally was coach from Toronto 😅). Since we're traveling from Barrie (90 minutes north of Toronto), we'll be taking the Go Train system to Niagara Falls for about $32 Canadian and staying overnight. I've been traveling Via Rail and it's predecessor, Canadian National Railway (CNR) when 7 year old me started traveling on my own from Ottawa to Toronto, meet my grandfather and on to Burlington (very jerky then). You did a great job on the video! Thanks for putting my mind at ease about our upcoming travels.
Awesome video! I’m about to do this journey on Monday! This will be my second time using Amtrak, the first was from NYC to Fort Lauderdale, FL last summer.
this is pretty cool. I'm from the UK and I've never got the Amtrak but heard a lot about it. Really need to do this. I would love if it was a hop on hop off train so you could explore any cities or towns in between for however many days you wish then get back on again. thanks for the video. make more! I think research SEO to get more views, although you're doing pretty well, better than most.
Your edits are on point Davion. Vids are lookin polished. I agree about the windows. They need to elevate their give a $&@? where overall cleanliness is concerned. I can’t recommend the train from Podgorica to Belgrade for that same reason. Cheers.
Thank you for the kind words :)! Yeah I wish they cleaned the windows, whats the point in having them if you cant see out of them?? I have to go to Belgrade someday :)
New subbie. The skyline ceiling looked so cool at Penn Station and you spoke to a lot of people. Haven't done that trip since I was a child. I think you should do a tour of a few of the cities along the way like Yonkers, Albany, Rochester and Buffalo. If you are travelling to the Caribbean, you should try St. Vincent and the Grenadines. They have a Carnival in July.
Thank you for the support, it really means a lot!! Yes, I did not expect the ceiling when I walked in 😳. Yes that’s the plan during the fall, when the leaves change!! Ohhh carnival would be fun
I stumbled across your channel and now you have a new subscriber! Great vid. You have a lovely style and I reckon you could front a TV show. I use trains here in the UK regularly and you should do something here. Good luck, pal.
@Alt-Key_Here It was pretty good! Even though it arrived at POU a few minutes late, the overall experience was calming. It was going pretty fast as well! The bathroom is also decently clean. The crew is awesome too
Hi, thanks for this video. I am planning a trip from NYC to Toronto soon and i am not a US/canadian Citizen, but a tourist. Please let me know how the border immigration works for a tourist . What are the points to be taken care. I won't be travelling back to USA from Toronto.
You will need your passport. Of course make sure you check if your country needs to have a visa to enter Canada or not. Besides that, just have your passport, check in before you get on your train. On the train you’ll get a document to fill out. It’ll all be very simple ☺️. I hope your journey goes well.
What a great video!!! I had tonsubscribe your channel. Goingvto Nuagara fall(pribably toronto side with my 8 year old boy in few weeks. So, you used the economic coach? Was it easy to get a service to a hotel? What about cell phone service on tge canada side? Thanks
Yooooo bro this helped a LOT tysm and im from queens so i had a question. So to get to the train station is it just like 1 bus or 2 bus or a bus and a train?
Hey man, I just discovered you today. I only saw one vid so far but I also went to your website. I need to ask (because you i spired me to start my channel as a black man) but what makes you do this?
Thank you for the support!! And for checking out my website. I’ll be posting blogs and travel tips soon! Oh wow, what kind of channel ? I do this to inspire others to travel, new experiences, meeting new people, new conversations either others we never thought we would have.
@DavionWest Thinking of starting a channel about starting over at 60. I am thinking about showing life as a 60 year old, black, expat who lives in Malaysia and just started to date someone in the Philippines who is 23... Your thoughts? Oh, and I'm gay!
I have a question: when you are showing the coach seat, you said in coach you get 1 US plug outlet and in business class you get 2. In coach, are you required to sit next to someone? Because if I'm sitting next to no one, it would be as good as sitting in business class
You are not required too, but of course if its a full train then yes you will be required too. But People get off at big stops. So either way you should be able to find two open seats depending on how far you are traveling.
For us, we didn’t get on the train first sadly. But on other Amtrak routes they let business class on first. It might just have been that day, that they didn’t let us on first.
This guy is super underrated! You deserve 100,000 subscribers
Thank you for the kind words 🙏
I took this train to Niagara Falls from Penn, it was nice but so long. I recommend you bring a bunch of chips for the ride lol
I defiantly need to start bringing snacks for sure!
If you are able to get the Amtrak credit card. Worth it for the point bonus when you buy tickets but you'll get some Metropolitan Lounge passes.
I was thinking about that, do you have the card?
