    My Tibetan spaniel has been having seizures for 5 years and her seizures have recently become more frequent, she was on one Pexion tablet per day and the Vet suggested increasing that to two per day. I had started the Keto diet myself and started losing weight on this way of eating. and had read how Epilepsy seizures had been successfully controlled using on a Ketegenic diet .So we have taken all grains out her diet and put her on a raw food diet and she hasn't had a seizure for over a month. I have also cut back her medication to one tablet every two days . so far so good . I hope to cut her meds back even further. will keep you updated .

    I would consider working up to much higher levels (2.7X your levels). I feed 2 teaspoons per day for a 15 pound dog and found it works to mitigate the problem. Some ALS patients are going even above that level.

    My King Shepard has been having really bad seizures lasting 30 min. for about three years now. After much testing and meds I found out it is from her liver I cut out the fat. I use cooked chicken with veggies (what ever I have on hand) rice or noodles. This has cut the seizures down. She has gone almost a year without any bad one's and the seizures that break through are mild and only last 1 to 2 seconds. But she has a bacterial ear infection that we can't get rid of. Your video on this has helped.

    Thank you for this video. My French bulldog who is one years old was diagnosed with epilepsy 4 days ago. He had two tonic-clonic seizures 5 hours apart and before that he had two seizures one month apart from each other. He is currently taking Phenobarbital 30mg twice daily and we have 5mg of Valium to give rectally if he seizures again. Hi! I rescued 2 kittens recently and one of the kittens has really bad seizures. They're around 3 going on 4 weeks old. They're still on Kitten Milk replacement but I'm starting to wean them off with soaked kibble.
    Please, I need advice on what to do with the epileptic kitten. I'm giving her .1mL coconut oil 2x daily, a liquid mineral supplement and basic pet vitamins.
    Would I need to increase this dose? How about using butter? I recently saw a video where you advised supplementing with Curcumin. Would that be advisable for her? I have access to fresh fish, would that be a better food than kibble, which contains soy and wheat (which have been known to contribute to seizures in humans)?
    Other observations about the kitten: she walks around in circles often. She is lethargic and walks around much less than her brother. Development seems a bit slower than her brother. After a really bad seizure (full body spasms lasting 3-10 seconds, sometimes a few minutes apart) she cries out very loudly and pitifully. Her usual meows sound shaky, like a goat's bleet.
    My heart bleeds. Please tell me how I can give her a better quality life.
    Thank you very much!

    Hi Dr. Andrew! My 6YR old Havanese Oliver, was diagnosed with epilepsy 2 years ago. His seizures only lasted for around 30 seconds a piece and they typically would be in his arms and front half of his body. He started having them more frequently which led to his phenobarbital script. He is on 3/4 of a 15mg tablet twice daily. Although we have achieved almost perfect seizure control with our current routine I still hate the idea of him being on it and would love to try to take a more holistic approach. I am starting to prepare meals for him myself and am doing diligent research on supplements that can help and hopefully possibly be able to knock his prescription down or out completely (with OK from vet of course). Would you suggest MCT oil or coconut oil to start, and are there any other supplements that you feel help with epilepsy? Thank you so much!

    Love your vid's. ... MCT oil is there much different to the cold pressed coconut oil, which you have there?.. Its my understanding that Its MCT oil which needs to be added to the diet for seizures.
    The oil that assists in seizures is 100% Medium Chain Triglycerides from Coconut Oil from organic coconuts.
    It also depends on the amount of Caproic acid (C6), Caprylic acid (C8) and Capric acid (C10), as different brands have different levels.
    Ive been researching deep into seizures (still) and I'm currently looking for proper dosage, depending on these factors... to be honest, I don't think there is any info out there for us/me.
    For readers.. if you would like to follow my research and have access to resources that you can research for your own individual animal, and you're on Facebook, look up the group As Nature Intended. Once Ive compiled all studies on causes, prevention and treatments I'll share my findings. Until then, I already have some information published.
    I wish you hope, light, strength and courage.

      From my own research, MCT oil should be 9% total of the calorie diet. For exemple, my dog is on raw food, total kcal per meal/day is 635kcal, 9% of it being 57kcal, I’ll gradually give her MCT oil up to 7ml (the brand I use says 800kcal per 100ml - 57kcal is 7ml of that oil or 1 and 1/2 teaspoon)
      I am only starting with that. Don’t want to upset my dog’s belly so I give 1/4 of a teaspoon as the start and slowly up the dosage of MCT oil until I reach the desired 9% of total calorie diet)
      Hope this helps

    • @VeterinarySecrets
      @VeterinarySecrets  5 років тому

      Hi, seizures are different in cats- is the phenobarb working. you can also consider the cbd oil, dosing it at .5mg twice daily to start- can go much higher as needed. DO this in conjunction with your vet. It is safer than the PB

    • @spacecatboy2962
      @spacecatboy2962 5 років тому

      @spacecatboy2962 5 років тому

      sorry, at first i didnt understand the dose because i had seen that hemp oil comes in different strengths, but now i understand what you said about starting at 5 mg. The vet thinks his kidneys might not be working very good, and he is shaky and off balance. Hoping the hemp oil will do better for him. I guess i should slowly reduce the phenobarbitol as i add the hemp oil rather than quit the pheno all at once

      Hi- there are side effects, but most dogs do well on it. The main problem is that is affects the liver, and that up to 30% of dogs to not respond to it. You should also consider CBD oil, and additional MCT oil to make a more ketogenic diet

    My 10year old just started having seizures (two so far) and the Vet diagnosed the first one as a stroke. 30 days later (today) he had another one but it only lasted about 3 minutes. My Vet said that a dog requires 15% of their diet to be carbohydrates, where I was only feeding him a beef and berry diet previously. He put him on a Senior kibble. After this second seizure I’m wondering if my Vet is right regarding the 15% carbohydrates and also if the coconut oil should be added. I’m leaning towards the coconut oil. Can you comment on the carbohydrate statement my Vet made. Thanks for all your videos.

    An interesting video, thanks for the post.
    My dog has an internal gremlin that jabs him with a pin sometimes in his head, belly/ midriff and rear end, there is no pattern, it is far more noticeable when he's asleep and some rear end jolts will throw him out of bed as they can be quite violent. They happen every ?? ten seconds, three minutes, ten minutes and go on all day and night. After a bad one he starts licking for a few seconds maybe a minute and will be reluctant to get back in bed thinking the Gremlin is in there waiting to jab him again.
    I am unsure if they are seizures as my vet says she hasn't a clue and has prescribed Metacam, which made me think she really doesn't have a clue so I haven't administered it.

      Please use MCT oil with 8 and 10 chain MCTs. These are the right fatty acids that the brain can use for energy, which is what helps to reduce the seizures. I’m using a tablespoon twice a day plus a teaspoon of D ribose powder for my Aussie with idiopathic epilepsy. He’s also on a combo of phenobarb and pexion twice a day, with levetiracetem (keppra) as a pulse therapy when he seizures. Works well to prevent clusters developing. The pexion doesn’t work well alone for clusters but recent research has shown it helps in combo with epiphen to reduce frequency. Thought I’d share so you can ask your vet. Good luck!

      If Kibble was healthy they would have made one available for human consumption.

      If you're in Facebook, look up the group As Nature Intended. I'm a researcher and been researching seizures deeply for the last few weeks, I already have some information that may help you of you're the type of person who likes to research.. I'm preparing an ultimate post

      I have found thc free cbd has made the suddenness for our girl. We tried at least 6 full spectrum cbds and saw no difference. The crew was the difference. We do a diy fresh raw, lie carb, low glycerin diet. Also started her on lions mane mushroom capsules. She's more focused and alert on that. Good luck!!

    My young female cat has been throwing saliva for the last week and for the last few days started to kind of sneeze, she lost her appetite. I give her one dropper a day of wild salmon oil. today I decided to give her MCT 1 tsp, ans I started to give her CBD. She keep having seizures every hour or less which is total 6 seizers today, I have no idea what to do. Vet isn't going to help me much only give me a high bill. I am wondering what can I do to stop multipole seizers in my kitty ? I am aftraid she can die due to the brain damage. I have never experienced that with her. She normally had 1 to 2 seizures a month what I seen.

      So I guess you need to decide, vet bill, or a dead cat. Seek a holistic or integrated vet, (in that order of preference) they will treat the animal as a whole, not just the symptoms.

    Is Tula part bird? She "perches" very well!
    I have had several dogs that developed seizures. These were rescue dogs and some had been beaten (Abusive Head Trauma), other episodes of seizures were not given a cause, but assuming cancer... The last dog started having seizures on a Friday, and they were mainlining Phenobarbital and Valium but nothing helped, and she died on Monday. There were a few warning signs: stare, bulging eyes, panting, ravenous, pee'd in her sleep, difficulty getting up and stumbling. It all happened very quickly. Your tips on handling seizure have been most helpful! ua-cam.com/video/tOJYuSjdtPU/v-deo.html I have epilepsy and found the high-fat, low-carb diet to help. The MCTs (coconut oil) will be easy to add to their diet as prevention and for nice coat and overall good health. Thank you, again, Dr Jones for another safe and natural treatment.

      Very different, each one has their benefits. Omega 3 fatty acids is also a must. Depending on where you are, I highly recommend Dr Peter Dubias's products (calamari oil). Otherwise a high quality, wild caught krill oil that has been tested for heavy metals, in capsule form.
      The facebook group As Nature intended has many resources you can research. Good luck

    Have you seen MCT's cure seizures in dogs? What is the dosage?

    • @VeterinarySecrets

      Hi, here is the study link: www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4635653/
      This is what they were fed: The primary focus of this study was to evaluate the antiepileptic efficacy and tolerability of a low MCT-containing diet to dogs with idiopathic epilepsy chronically treated with standard AEDs. To achieve this objective, twenty-one dogs with epilepsy were enroled into a 6-month prospective study, in which they were separately fed the MCTD containing low concentrations of MCT (5·5 % as fed) for 3 months and an isoenergetic placebo diet containing the same levels of fat, protein and carbohydrate for 3 months. The results show that, for the first time, the MCTD - a diet with low MCT inclusion rate - had positive effects on reduction of both seizure frequency and seizure day frequency per month.
      It is 5% MCT in the diet- relatively small amounts. If you are feeding 100% MCT oil, 1 teaspoon/10lbs twice daily

    I was very disappointed with Dr. Jones advice, my dog did not improve. Seizures actually increased, ended up relying on phenobarbital. Spent a lot of money on Dr. Jones Ultimate canine and the other products he recommended. Not very nice to mislead people with their pets health! My heart is left broken after all hope of my dog improving was was lost!

    My dog I recued at a puppy mill. He is a 20th litter of brother and sister being his mom and dad and he has been kicked in the head as well as his scrotum so it looks like he has 4 ball instead of the 2 he's a long haired Apple head chawawa and he didn't pass the flipping paw teast but we haven't been able to get the blood work done on him yet. But his vet doctor said that he was not able to put him on his sezzer meds due to he is not having enough of them to be able to medicate him yet due to the type of sezzer s he has and the only medication for kind he has the medicine is very dangerous and if it's given just a pinch over the dose he is supposed to get it can kill him. And I was told not to bread him due to the puppy will have the sezzer s to and his behaviors are like he's got water on the brain they say. But . what he does is he lefts one paw like he's got a sticker in it and he's head gos round and round and his eyes are glased like no one is home and he's sceared then he gets stiff with his hole body and he's has two times two back to back and one time back to back in a 24, hours and the more that it happened s the more he appears to be slower than more crazy.he grals and fights will my other dog s when they are playing with each other and at times he's doing this with him self and the air. But he used to not with me and now lately there's been time s that he's sceared and want me to hold him so I do and once I pick him up then out of the blue he trys to bite my face . what should I do.he don't know any better.and his feet and head have not swelled up with the dome shape.thank God..

    Good stuff, the other thing worth considering is CBD oil proven to help some pets, children, adults reduce and lower the threshold for seizures. Unfortunately my late cat couldn't tolerate it due to being on Valium and Phenobarbital at the time (the Pheno' did nothing for her Grand Mal seizures and I believe did her far more harm than good as she was old...) but if I could wind back the clock I would never have started her on the Pheno'.
    Charlottes Web have a pet product Paws but any good quality CBD should be helpful but I'd advise starting with the lowest dose and not administer it if on Valium as it does interact with CBD.
    Keto diet is perhaps the best thing you can do for a pet suffering from seizures and cancer, it's well known now sugar and carbs feeds cancer cells.

    I'm quite disappointed in your information in this video because you talk about MCT oil and its benefits but then show coconut oil as the product to add to the dogs food. Pure coconut oil has MCTs but most is C12 Lauric acid. MCT oil isolates the C8 & C10 which is a much higher concentration of mct and is burned more efficiently. Hence the health benefits for seizures.
