I'm a bit baffled how you all manage to exceed my expectations each and every single video. Wonderful watch, will make sure you to watch it again and again in the near future.
@@Game_Hero The 70's is the decade that leads up to the 80's. While the 70's has great movies, music and anime, cartoons and video games - not so much. As for the 2000's, it's when everything begins to go to sh** even though that decade has good stuff too.
@@hieioni3354 I mean, the 70s gave us Pac-Man, Monaco GP, Space Invaders, the Atari 2600, the Fairchild Channel F, Colossal Cave Adventure, Pong, Breakout, Asteroids, Lunar Lander, the Oregon Trail, Sheriff, Gun Fight, Zork, Galaxian, the list goes on!
When I try to think of what the creative vibe of the 2010's or 2020's is like, I draw a blank. It really does seem like the 80's were a special time with such a wild, unqiue mix of 70's softness and organic-ness, all those friendly shapes with pastel and earth tones... and the colorful hard clean edges of early computer graphics, airbrushed gradients and neon and shiny metal. Maybe with 30 years of distance, I'll be able to see what the style of the 2020's was like.
It's good to see this channel branching out to other types of pop culture media from the 80's and 90's. So many topics within topics. The visuals are top tier as always. Loved the section with the Star Wars concept art, big props for mentioning Syd Mead, Moebius, Maquarrie and Joe Johnston. Really loved the visuals of the He man and G.I. Joe toys. Took me bit to get used to Betsy's narration. At first I got a late night infomercial vibe but then I started getting a warm nostalgic tone from her that matches the spirit of this channel. Still looking foward to coverage of other 8bit and 16 bit games aswell as continueing the the topic of the transition to 3D in the mid-late 90's which was covered in the Donkey Kong Country video. N64 vs PS1 vs SEGA vs PC. PC gaming in general and the strange world of the internet. Although I understand these videos take time to make but I would say they are the best retro videos on UA-cam. I really feel like I'm being transported back in time. Edit: the Mortal Kombat video was the last one to talk about the 3D computer graphics revolution of the mid to late 90's which obviously DKC and Rare happened in the timeframe. Just a time of rapid advancement.
Strafefox! The only YT channel I have notifications turned on. Haven't watched it but will enjoy it as always! Best channel on YT! Lol! Even the Dutch Chriet Titulaer has a few seconds of fame! Always enjoying my fellow countrymen 😂
I just wanted to add that I only have notifications turned on for around 3 channels (out of hundreds subscribed to over the years), and this is one of them.
I had no idea that Inspector Gadget and The Smurfs animated show were even older than me- I saw them in reruns as a kid and just presumed they were contemporary. Still, cool to see this era even if it's something I've read about more than Ive seen it, as the explosion of new stories and franchises came and changed the landscape... even if it couldn't change it to the point where we got all the cool things we'd ever want, like that Wild Things-movie. And man, japanese (and probably korean) studios really got a lot of mileage out of Europe wanting it's stories as animated shows. I didn't even know we had an animated version of Nils Holgerson, I only knew of the live-action show.
The editing, production value and just the overall presentation is just top-notch. wasn't expecting this type of subject being covered on this channel, and we are pleased beyond anything we could think of......awesome work
That was so wonderful, genuinely made me tear up from the nostalgia in places ;w; Thank you for always making these so incredible, ever a treat seeing the notifications come through!
Smashing as always! Love the mention of packaging art. One of my favourite mediums. The start of a Magic era for toys that still inspire me to this day.
We love you, Strafe! 😍 AMAZING STUFF, as always!! You make men cry tears of joy. You deserve every compliment you get. You are the best! Looking *VERY* much forward to the next episode!
How they were able to create so much with so little is truly amazing! Far more impressive than how they just up the system requirements instead of optimizing things, nowadays...
Literally one of my favorite video on the whole youtube. Amazing work of presentation and synthesis. Good job to every members of your team for this excellent video. I learned so many things in this 20 minutes span! (born in the very late 90s) And your soothing voice makes it so easy to follow everything. Thank you so much for giving us such amazing, FREE, content !
Hell yeah! More 80s aesthetic docus! Still can't believe the production quality is of high quality to this day, and still not even 500k subs or so. Can't wait for the next one, especially b/c it's gonna be music!
The highlight for me was the matte paintings in Star Wars. So beautiful. Also, I'm content that Moebius's and Syd Mead's name was mentioned. Love Moebius's artstyle.
Seeing the package of that Playmobil blue robot unlocked a memory deep inside and it killed me. Thank you so much for such a wonderful video, the production values, the editing, the narration, and the content of course, everything is perfect. Definitely one of the best channels on UA-cam.
Thank you so much for bringing-back beautiful childhood memories; we are blessed to be from that era; we lived the emergence this magical world; thanks Bro!
Can't wait for the next part! Mid-80s, LET'S GOOO!! I was born in '84 so it should be an even bigger nostalgia bomb than this one! LaserDiscs have a special place in my heart. Remember kids, LaserDiscs were the analog verison of DVDs. They were the size of a regular vinyl, had sound and video on both sides (you had to take it out of the player and flip it lol), they had simple chapter/scene menus for you to navigate, and of course you could fast forward, rewind, and pause. The covers they came in would have the numbered chapters on the back with text, because on the TV only the numbers showed. Sometimes there were multiple discs for the movies that required bigger space. Also sometimes, they had special editions with special features just like how you got on DVDs and Blu-Rays today: extended cuts, interviews, commentary, documentaries, etc. Someone mentioned simply accepting Tron's visual effects as-is, and y'know what? I get it. We already had something similar with Star Wars. I remember being absolutely amazed when I first saw the original Tron. It was playing on TV, and I instantly wondered how in the heck they managed to do all those digital visuals! It never occurred to me it was computers, because at the time our own family computer was a Compaq PC-Compatible that ran MS-DOS. At that age I had no idea so much was possible. ...That was an unexpectedly long wall of text. Thank you so much for the video, strafefox!
Extremely interesting! As small kid in the late 80's, early 90's I didn't even think about all the effort and project machinery behind all these productions. I just took them as is. Like, it was just around the late 2000's that I learned that Tron was revolutionary upon release. Transformers from USA, Nils from Sweden, Maya from Germany (at least the original comic/book was from there), many Chech and Slovakian, as well as Hungarian products and at that time I thought the actual drawing of each frame was the only hardship. Back to Tron, I thought at that time that it was possible "to make anything with computer graphics anyway". Of course, since then I learned how hard it was to create all these products and I experience during the work hours how hard and near impossible it is to bring something from the idea to stable live use. This channels helps much to learn even more details.
Would you look at that... The first and only channel since I got meself on YT that actually got me to wake up only to watch this episode. Interesting, but splendid nonetheless. I certainly don't regret on that choice! Yet another class release with ditto class production skills. One of the best 20 minutes spent this year! :)
You always go above and beyond, I hope all of your videos hit the 1 million view mark someday, it's deserved. Is the narrator the source of that TikTok TTS female voice I always hear? Sounds so similar and its admittedly a little distracting for me (not her fault though, her narration is great)

The 80's and 90's... The peak of music, animation, games, toys and movies IMO.
For real man. So magical. From the Thing to Doom and Quake to the Matrix.
Truly. The perfect marriage between classical art, innovation, artistic expression and experimentation.
Bummer that the 2000s and 70s weren't included
