This is the ONLY SAO game I want to exist. Hell, I’d even pay a sub if it’s made and plays well. The fact that they haven’t jumped on this makes me sad. It’s why I played SAOIF so much, it’s the closest thing to that in existence.

Better to buy something optimized with beautifully smooth framerates, Nier:Automata-levels of fluidity in combat, reactive enemy types, models, and a combat system that looks AAA standard (which is ABOVE average so far as anime games are concerned), then to waste $60 on something that's both clunky and poorly optimized, with an outdated combat system and RPG mechanics, in the hopes of getting used to it. That's Consoomer Mentality, which I'd rather avoid. But people DO buy these types of games just because they have their favorite characters in them, so hey.
It isn't even optimized to the consoles it's being played on. I'm sure with proper optimization it could run on the Switch, but if it were to be ported in the state that it's in, it'd be a repeat of Arkham Knight on PC
Can you think of a reason to why your custom character would be allowed to enter the top secret Rath test facility to enter Underworld and test the AI for military purposes? I mean, Kirito was lucky because he knew Kikuoka since way back and that was only for a favor because Kikuoka owed him.

I wish they'd do something about the slow free falling when you get knocked up. You stay in the air for like 3 whole seconds, slowly falling. It's genuinely infuriating.
Never seen that, but I did get stuck in a mountain and I couldn't teleport or get out, so I had too close the game, I was freaking out, Like what happens if I couldn't get outta there, would I lose my character for ever Edit: I now know what you mean by slow free falling and I don't see much of a problem with it, I've gotten used too it and it doesn't bother me, I've encountered it so many times and I just think of it as a game feature because it seems like something that would happen, but if they got rid of it, I wouldn't mind it, but I don't think it's necessary too remove it
@Ryo zero The camera's hella wonky. I hate how it's so close to your character, too. I'll be trying to maneuver around an enemy and then just suddenly I'll stop moving AND I won't be able to see myself at all because the camera is in a weird position now for some reason, so I have to fight the camera just to find out that I was running into a rock the whole time.
i didn't like the hollow realization's optimization and this open world was kinda bad for me. i stopped playing it when quest showed me i need to get to the next location on the map,and when i walked to the entry to this location kirito said: ,,i don't need to get there right now" or something like that and i can't get there, and i raged and uninstalled

@@boop3915 I'll admit. The game crashed for me, more often than any game I ever played. To the point where I was always saving. I don't know what it was, but everytime I'd return to the hub world. The game would slow down and crash.
Just waiting for the patch to roll out. I wish I could find some news saying they are working on the bugs and performance issues but I can't find anything. If anyone has any news on this, I would like the link please.

At first before this review I was a little skeptical because my main problem with mmos is that each hit on the monster doesn't feel like it mattered which is why Monster Hunter was the only mmo that I could get in to because it had that impact. Knocking a monster over the sudden freezing of your character when you hit a powerful attack, seriously have you landed the final hit of the Great sword combo in world, and signs of injury whether it be broken parts or the monster limping. Every hit in that game felt like it mattered but in other mmos like that one futuristic anime mmo that was hyped up not fatal bullet. While that was a great game it just lacked that impact I didn't feel every hit. But with this after seeing some gameplay it looks to be just what I needed Edit: Fantasy Star Online that's the game I was talking about
The best sword art online game so far has been hollow fragment for me. The exploration and the unlocking of the secret bosses & the bosses that dropped EX skills , crafting, quests that involved fighting very tough bosses, grinding implements for gear & skills.. that was the best rpg to me. This game receives an E from me not just because of the performance issues but mainly because it lacks the element of fun. There’s no grinding, rare drops, legendary weapons, but instead you replaced it with crappy cut scenes and hundreds of unnecessary side quests which amount to nothing, cooking and fishing is cool but it still lacks the element of FUN
I’ve never heard someone say they actually liked Hollow Fragment, it feels clunky and repetitive and overall just a trash game compared to Hollow Realization
I don't understand how they have all the bases to make a great maybe even legendary game but they miss the mark everytime. Not saying all the games are bad but so much potential is lost in my opinion
I personally believe it was a well made game, besides performance and handling issues. The story isn't bad at all, its written well and is good enough to pass, its better then the HF and HR and LS stories combined, fatal bullet is still better in story in my opinion. But gameplay, oh man its amazing. The combat is slow, yet speedy, its deliberate, and feels good, like a souls game kinda. The world is awesome as well, i love the look of the game art wise as well as the enemy design and look. The game is beautiful, and more fleshed out than the other SAO games. The only issue I have is it seems (im in chapter 3) that there aren't many weapons and armor sets in the game at all, it seems very very weak in the weapons and armor department. But I havent gotten to endgame so 🤷 all of that said, i would say its a solid 7/10 when it comes to what to expect and want from the SAO games.
Yeah they could work more on the weapons and hopely no more weapons that look like someone used the paint bucket tool on them that makes them one pure single color
I played 15 hours of this game and most of it was loading screens, lot of fps drops and minutes of talk without any sense in history! if i have to play 40 hours to achieve a mediocre "late game" i quit already. Xpected a lot more from this game :(
This game for me is a C (on PC) it has the potential to rise up to a B tier with friends involved, but be warned the technical issues are even deeper than what was mentioned here, and can actually break your save outright: losing all progress, or getting locked out of main story progression from strange issues in the multiplayer (which I have played a bit of, but sadly am not able to join a friend of mine, or even see that our multiplayer sessions exist.) So if you are a fan, know before you buy this game, that it is so beyond technically broken that it may never be fixed entirely. There is so much potential that could be wasted if SO many things are never addressed. Buyer be warned
what seemed interested about this or what I read about hollow realization was the 'simulated' MMO features and sandbox features. In HR they claim you could interact with, adventure with, level up and gain reputation with any NPC. That there were adventuring parties running around the world and cool stuff like that. Can any of you recommend singleplayer games that have a lot more of that kind of stuff? Creating a highly detailed and simulated world, persistent. Obviously not talking about Ghosts of Tsushima which looks like another shallow open world game.
For anyone who loved Hollow Fragment this game is like a love letter to that game, once you master the combat its like all the potential Fragment had has been realized. But beware the bugs and framerate issues. I've been having too much fun to be bothered by it..until I get the rare soft lock.
I'll keep this as brief as possible. I'm 20+ hrs into Alicization Lycoris at Chapter 3-1 and I'm enjoying the game for what it's worth, however I feel it deserves a C. First and foremost, Aquaria is shit at Character creation, as they always have been, they have nothing on DIMPS (who made fatal bullet). The optimization of the game is the biggest disappointment throughout its entirety; frame drops, animation locks, homogenized quests (this is more of a personal gripe), etc, were these issues to be resolved if not alleviated slightly, I could stand giving it a B. The one saving grace of AL is the multiplayer. It's not w/o it's faults, but it's the best out of all the SAO games with how it's designed. Multiplayer is what's going to carry this game into its future content. Hopefully before then, we get an update that improves the performance.
I'm 20 hours in and I'd say I pretty much agree with you. I'd personally rate it a high C for now but once I get into multiplayer I'm sure my opinion will change to a B. And to be honest I haven't really had alot of issue's with the frame rate since the patch, of course some times it gets a little messed up but it's usually minor for me and doesn't really annoy or ruin my experience for me. The only thing that's disappointing in my opinion is that the story that starts after the administrator fight isn't interesting at all and I'm skipping every cutscene. And the guest design is very basic, repetitive, and feels lazy but in spite of this I still enjoy the game for what it is. The game is definitely not worth 60 dollars though, I'd personally say it's worth about 40 and some people still think that's too much. But on people who are interested in this game if you really really like sword art online and also like rpg's then I'd say you should purchase it. If your more of a casual fan of sword art online and rpg's I'd honestly just say that you should just wait until it's on sale or skip it entirely because if you're not too into sword art online or rpg's you really aren't gonna like game to much and there are better options out there for someone like you. So overall you should only buy this game if you're a really big fan of sword art online and rpg's, if not than it's a very fine line on whether it's worth it or not and you really just have to decide that for yourself.
Rank D, I agree because I would rate it a 70 out of 100. I like the combat....once I figured out what I was doing. It seems like Bandai ACTUALLY tried compared to some of their previous releases. They want you immersed. They are also good at updating there IP's. Cant wait to see what they roll out next update. Great honest review.
Well, actually they charged $105 for the better version that has all the dlc, and I bought it because I don't care about grafics (yes I know that's spelled wrong, I just can't be bothered too teach myself how too spell) or fps, the thing that makes a game good too me is that it has too be fun and above all else have a good story and Sao is my favorite Anime, I just love it Edit: so I'm a little biased
Fatal Bullet is awesome. I was able to hit lvl 300 with ridiculous speed, and it's definitely my go to for 3rd person shooting. But Lycoris is EXACTLY what ive been after as an SAO fan. Sure it has it's issues, but so did Fatal Bullet, and look at what a masterpiece it is now.
Wished that bandai would just make FFXIV with the style of the first arc of SAO on it and actually make it good this time instead of just going through the same story with same characters from the anime. Honestly that might be the dream SAO game that will probably make me think in having some faith with the series since i never really gave a shit about SAO after season 1
Also I do like this game, and most of the other SAO games that have been made, including the mobile ones), but out of every game Fatal Bullet is by far my favorite. The combat in that one is so smooth, engaging, and fun, & the story is great.

I usually don't like to leave comments but after my personal experience with the game I felt like I had to share it. I subscribed because of the honesty of this review. I like SAO and I usually don't care about frame rates or resolution but... The frame rate is just really so bad. I purchased the game for the Xbox One. I was doing ok until I reached chapter one's boss. You have to fight several bosses one after another with some CGI sequences in between. As the video mentions the game does a terrible job with the auto save so... In a random basis the game freezes with a loud noise. I can't defeat all those bosses without encountering this bug and the game doesn't allow me to save in between so... I'm stuck. I have the SOA novels and I watched the anime and I can't even recommend this game for fans. Even if you want to play it just wait for a sale or for few patches so at least you don't get stuck with an unplayable mess. It's a shame because I honestly was looking forward to it. For me the game right now is an F, is literally unplayable for me Thanks!
Never been a fan of any of the Sao games but somehow I like this one very much and I’m enjoying it very much. But I won’t deny the many flaws it has and wish they did it better specially the horrendous save point issue lol
So far I'm about 80 hours into the game with story still to go and I'm loving it It's got some of the typical gameverse harem aspects but I've grown used to them in the games Plus some of the social events are great for developing characters with less screen time like Linel and Fizel The post Human Empire story so far is interesting and kinda what I'd expect from gameverse but mixed with some suprise plot points from Moon Cradle As for stability issues, I'm playing on a base PS4 and my game only went to shit once when my PS4 had been on for about 30 hours straight I do have some frame drops in towns but it's been surprisingly fine in combat for me The normal side quests I haven't cared too much for though but I'll get to them after I beat the story So far I'd say it's my favourite SAO game, taking the spot from HR While I have some problems with it like the movement when it comes to trying to get places or the pretty poor customization at launch (they said they're thinking of adding more options) I'm still loving it and I'm so glad that it ditched the god awful OC and characters Fatal Bullet gave us
Hallow realization is my first one i bought on sale and it feels good to me ive always wanted to play an mmo but I don't wanna pay monthly subs and for even more expansions even though i love the ff series i just cant do it.
I can't wait to finally reach chapter 2 so I can see what this game really looks like. There is no way it will be as good as Hollow Realization but still.
The game is solid on PC but as you said it requires a really good PC to run it efficiently. I my self haven't really had any FPS issues or other game related issues and get on average 57 fps. The past updates have helped fix a lot of issues that some players have been having. The main things I liked was the character and party customization. The quests are pretty bland but the end game raids are fun. I think I'm sitting at about 80 hours of gameplay as of right now. I'd give it a C, the creators are still actively working to improve the game which is a big plus to me.
don't know if it is said yet or people know this but npcs have time stamps when they go to sleep some don't, so if you want to talk to them you will need to be in the day, you can see them walk in there house sometimes I like that detail but can be anoying. Hope it is useful for those who don't know.
I give it a C mainly because it's a fun game but the frame drops and characters disappearing gets annoying. For the online mode I suggest you play with friends cause if not people will not help you out at all. It is fun but also the story change after chapter 1 is wierd and not that enjoyable. Fighting machanics are fun but this game needs work to be better.

The last SAO game I played was Hollow realization and after that I started to see that there might never be an independent character story in the SAO world where you're not kirito or he has the girls all over him.. Still waiting for maybe one SAO game where everything is a blank slate and you bond with everyone and build up your own relationships with people throughout your journey with choices that affect the ending and can change how party members fight alongside you, the gear you get and certain scenes can be altered depending on who you choose to romance. Hollow re:fragment was the last interesting story with the hallow area actually catching my interest with unique ideas and areas that were five times better than the actual game. Glad I stopped before GGO because I've put money into better games. Hope one day this series gets the game it deserves.

Personally it's just not for me anymore, I just like to see where they take the future SAO games and what improvements they have over the previous ones. I was expecting something like "not really intuitive story questline", because I have to go to the desert, and the doors are WIDE OPEN but for some reason Kirito says "We're stuck, let's go to Williria"... And I'm like "no, the path is open, what do you mean", and then in Williria I did ALL THE SECONDARY QUESTS but still have to go to Williria cuz' Kirito says so... Am I the only one?

Yeah, I decided not to buy this game because I saw the graphics and intuited from that the understanding that there would be dozens of game breaking issues. If a game studio can’t be bothered to deSIGN THE MAP TO NOT SHOWN REPEATING TILE SETS, it’s rather obvious that it wouldn’t have been thoroughly play tested, or optimized at all. Such a disappointment. I’ll just enjoy the show and ignore this game. A game set at what used to be considered AAA game pricing should never be this incompetently put together. My score is an E for the outdated graphics, price point, optimization, and bugs.
Ngl I give it C, I'm a big fan of Sao, the story isn't that bad to me, just usual anime plot things, I'm a big weapon hunter, and I missed Re:Hollow Fragment and this game kinda reminds me of it, though not as well, Realization was OK, but if they kept anything I wish it was the skill minue where you could just spam skills lol and insta kill a boss with 6 skill connects. Online has helped a ton since some people you met are added to your friends list, I do recommend if anyone's gonna play, for chapter 1, GRIND LEVELS, YOU WILL GET STUCK, AND YOU WILL NOT LIKE THE GAME, it took me three days to finish chapter 1 because I was too under leveld to fight the budget boss rush that was going on onnthe top floor.
Attack Damage multiplier is capped at 100% so there are even more hidden factors to get used to with the game but after 67hrs and hitting level 50 i can strongly say this game currently is a 6.5/10
Honestly, the only update I want from this game is where they make it like HR, where when you rename Kirito, the characters call you by that name instead of "Kirito". And before anyone asks, they could basically do it where the characters pause where they normally would say "Kirito" when there is another name.

Imagine someone made an SAO game that was good. Why do all anime games look like they have an indie studio budget? Imagine an open world SAO game, similar to season 1, where each floor is its own server, and it's loaded with players. Where professions can be extremely important, dying has extreme punishment (perhaps not as intense as real SAO - more chances to stay alive), multi-year long progression, maybe the odd hidden talent gifted to random players like Kirito. The SAO story and world has sooo much potential to be adapted into a super immersive game, and I feel like nobody has pulled that off yet.
I had a really rough time with chapter 1. I did not find combat enjoyable, esp the loooooong chain of boss battles with only one save point. It's really hard getting an attack rhythm going due to how much they dodge or how fast they counter attack. And your attack chains heavily relies on timing to deal meaningful damage. Eventually I unlocked multiplayer and with my sis and her bf's help we powerleveled to 50 before I continued with the main story and I had a much better time. Multiplayer is really awful for main missions because a lot of sequences require all players to sync, so if one person is out doing their own thing or does not have access to the mission, progress is just stopped. The endgame is pretty satisfying if you have a decent understanding of combat and/or have people to play with. Challenging but a lot more fair than chapter 1. I would only recommend this game to people who enjoyed hallow realization. I spent a lot of time with that but I had a hard time enjoying it for the same issues as Lycoris. However I loved fatal bullet (so much its one of my few platinumed games)
The fact this game on PC has a recommended 16GB of RAM is ridiculous. Cyberpunk 2077 - a game with a massive lead in the graphics department and in terms of NPCs being loaded compared to this game only recommends 12GB.
I don't see myself playing most JRPGs, in a post-SoulsBorne world. Most modern JPRGs feel archaic and almost obsolete, while souls-like games feel like more modern and freash. It's like seeing the slow, slumbering dinosaurs struggling to survive the meteor crash, while the small mammals play footsies with them.
After hearing about the save data issues, I’m definitely going to wait on this game until they actually finish the development. At first I was just gonna wait due to the price, but after hearing about not just the save data issues and some of the multiplayer aspects, I’m not sure I wanna bother with this game now. I’ll probably pick it up at the sweet sweep price of $20 or maybe the criminal price of $10. Doesn’t seem too bad of a game but I can’t say it’s got me interested. A lot of it just looks like some of the previous games when slight improvements in small areas, but most of it seems like it doesn’t have anything new to offer. Great review as always.
Bandai CG cutscenes are like a cheating spouse stole their money when they were just getting good, then come back later at the end just to finish the job

I honestly feel like that the game was decent I would really say it’s $60 game there are a lot of bugs with it but it does have its moments the game plays really fun personally I feel like they should do better with the story I felt like fatal bullet was a way better story personally because it was your own character and with that there are a lot of rooms for creativity and stuff like that because the world is amazing but they keep going back to their old routes with the new story threads with new characters into a lot more personally that’s why I like the spinoff series sword art online that they did called gun gale online That series felt fun and we got to explore the more world away more so I feel like if they make a new game like fatal bullet it might be a little bit better

@@Wraitharstar Which one? There are three ALO arcs. The one where Asuna gets captured, there is the one where they are looking for Excalibur (One of the worst SAO arcs), and there's the arc with Yuuki.
Look, I like RPG’s. I like SAO. I even like the almost retro/mid-to-late-2000’s vibe of the graphics and designs. But the issues pointed out in this video are gonna keep me from buying it, at least at full price. I’m an adult who works full time, and while I’m more than willing to put in 40-50 hours of game time if it’s a good story and involves good gameplay, I’m not gonna sink a full $60 into a game with decent gameplay but a lot of bugs and a seriously poor story. Especially during a pandemic which has limited my spending power. If I could get a used version of the game that worked with minimal bugs for around $10-20, then I’d probably take the game with some reservations. But for full price? Absolutely not.
Well, works great on gtx960 no lags or fps issues.. also loading went from 10 minutes to 20 sec after locking fps to 30 from main menu. Still feels like a talking simulator.
me too, but withough pay subs, and no point and click fighting mechanics, just a fucking big mmo game, with a lot of customization and builds, dungeons, raids, the fucking 100 floors, option to buy a house, actually "living" in the world "not need to be like Animal Crossing level", but something fun, but we all know the truth, maybe this is just a fan dream to never come to reality
I haven't played the game yet, am downloading it on steam now, but I feel like whenever Kirito becomes a potato the game should have skipped forward to when Vecta opens the underworld to any player who wants to join. And so you join in as an unsuspecting Japanese person - or, hell, even act as if your character from Fatal Bullet has come to help Kirito along with the other girls - so your custom character comes in handy. This would have probably been a lot better than what you explained. EDIT: I understand that this could also cause a problem because this portion of the anime is still airing - so they should have told a completely new actually interesting story henceforth.
Why couldn't they just made the story mode an option, and the end game the actual game. Like in the beginning you have a option of story mode or online mode. The story would be the same but online mode would be a totally different game! It would be fun to just play a sao online open world game and have a option of story mode
Do you guys experience a half-a-second delay on each movement? Is it normal or bug needed to be fixed? It is kind of messing up the character movement especially in battle.
In my opinion I think deserves a c or b. BUT at least it is not the best but it is not the SAO equivalent to battle of z from the dragon ball franchise (also I would like the frame rate to be improved at least)
I personally enjoy the game tons, but that being said there's alot of work to be done. Especially revolving around the games functionality and performance
I have played this game and I'm actually really enjoying it, the bugs are annoying yes but every game has them, and they'll be fixed over time like many games are, as for performance I haven't really had any notable issues on the pc version, don't know about console though

Better to buy something optimized with beautifully smooth framerates, Nier:Automata-levels of fluidity in combat, reactive enemy types, models, and a combat system that looks AAA standard (which is ABOVE average so far as anime games are concerned), then to waste $60 on something that's both clunky and poorly optimized, with an outdated combat system and RPG mechanics, in the hopes of getting used to it. That's Consoomer Mentality, which I'd rather avoid.
But people DO buy these types of games just because they have their favorite characters in them, so hey.

Can you think of a reason to why your custom character would be allowed to enter the top secret Rath test facility to enter Underworld and test the AI for military purposes? I mean, Kirito was lucky because he knew Kikuoka since way back and that was only for a favor because Kikuoka owed him.

You stay in the air for like 3 whole seconds, slowly falling. It's genuinely infuriating.
Never seen that, but I did get stuck in a mountain and I couldn't teleport or get out, so I had too close the game, I was freaking out, Like what happens if I couldn't get outta there, would I lose my character for ever

@Ryo zero The camera's hella wonky. I hate how it's so close to your character, too. I'll be trying to maneuver around an enemy and then just suddenly I'll stop moving AND I won't be able to see myself at all because the camera is in a weird position now for some reason, so I have to fight the camera just to find out that I was running into a rock the whole time.

i didn't like the hollow realization's optimization and this open world was kinda bad for me. i stopped playing it when quest showed me i need to get to the next location on the map,and when i walked to the entry to this location kirito said: ,,i don't need to get there right now" or something like that and i can't get there, and i raged and uninstalled

@@boop3915 I'll admit. The game crashed for me, more often than any game I ever played. To the point where I was always saving. I don't know what it was, but everytime I'd return to the hub world. The game would slow down and crash.
At this point it's just like Hollow Realization, it will only start getting better when DLC comes out.

At first before this review I was a little skeptical because my main problem with mmos is that each hit on the monster doesn't feel like it mattered which is why Monster Hunter was the only mmo that I could get in to because it had that impact. Knocking a monster over the sudden freezing of your character when you hit a powerful attack, seriously have you landed the final hit of the Great sword combo in world, and signs of injury whether it be broken parts or the monster limping. Every hit in that game felt like it mattered but in other mmos like that one futuristic anime mmo that was hyped up not fatal bullet. While that was a great game it just lacked that impact I didn't feel every hit. But with this after seeing some gameplay it looks to be just what I needed

It's ironic that Sword Art, an anime about video games, mostly churns out bad video games.
The best sword art online game so far has been hollow fragment for me. The exploration and the unlocking of the secret bosses & the bosses that dropped EX skills , crafting, quests that involved fighting very tough bosses, grinding implements for gear & skills.. that was the best rpg to me. This game receives an E from me not just because of the performance issues but mainly because it lacks the element of fun. There’s no grinding, rare drops, legendary weapons, but instead you replaced it with crappy cut scenes and hundreds of unnecessary side quests which amount to nothing, cooking and fishing is cool but it still lacks the element of FUN
I’ve never heard someone say they actually liked Hollow Fragment, it feels clunky and repetitive and overall just a trash game compared to Hollow Realization

I personally believe it was a well made game, besides performance and handling issues. The story isn't bad at all, its written well and is good enough to pass, its better then the HF and HR and LS stories combined, fatal bullet is still better in story in my opinion. But gameplay, oh man its amazing. The combat is slow, yet speedy, its deliberate, and feels good, like a souls game kinda. The world is awesome as well, i love the look of the game art wise as well as the enemy design and look. The game is beautiful, and more fleshed out than the other SAO games. The only issue I have is it seems (im in chapter 3) that there aren't many weapons and armor sets in the game at all, it seems very very weak in the weapons and armor department. But I havent gotten to endgame so 🤷 all of that said, i would say its a solid 7/10 when it comes to what to expect and want from the SAO games.
Yeah they could work more on the weapons and hopely no more weapons that look like someone used the paint bucket tool on them that makes them one pure single color

I played 15 hours of this game and most of it was loading screens, lot of fps drops and minutes of talk without any sense in history! if i have to play 40 hours to achieve a mediocre "late game" i quit already. Xpected a lot more from this game :(

This game for me is a C (on PC) it has the potential to rise up to a B tier with friends involved, but be warned the technical issues are even deeper than what was mentioned here, and can actually break your save outright: losing all progress, or getting locked out of main story progression from strange issues in the multiplayer (which I have played a bit of, but sadly am not able to join a friend of mine, or even see that our multiplayer sessions exist.) So if you are a fan, know before you buy this game, that it is so beyond technically broken that it may never be fixed entirely. There is so much potential that could be wasted if SO many things are never addressed. Buyer be warned

what seemed interested about this or what I read about hollow realization was the 'simulated' MMO features and sandbox features. In HR they claim you could interact with, adventure with, level up and gain reputation with any NPC. That there were adventuring parties running around the world and cool stuff like that.
Can any of you recommend singleplayer games that have a lot more of that kind of stuff? Creating a highly detailed and simulated world, persistent.
Obviously not talking about Ghosts of Tsushima which looks like another shallow open world game.
For anyone who loved Hollow Fragment this game is like a love letter to that game, once you master the combat its like all the potential Fragment had has been realized. But beware the bugs and framerate issues. I've been having too much fun to be bothered by it..until I get the rare soft lock.
I'll keep this as brief as possible. I'm 20+ hrs into Alicization Lycoris at Chapter 3-1 and I'm enjoying the game for what it's worth, however I feel it deserves a C. First and foremost, Aquaria is shit at Character creation, as they always have been, they have nothing on DIMPS (who made fatal bullet). The optimization of the game is the biggest disappointment throughout its entirety; frame drops, animation locks, homogenized quests (this is more of a personal gripe), etc, were these issues to be resolved if not alleviated slightly, I could stand giving it a B. The one saving grace of AL is the multiplayer. It's not w/o it's faults, but it's the best out of all the SAO games with how it's designed. Multiplayer is what's going to carry this game into its future content. Hopefully before then, we get an update that improves the performance.
This was a better review than his. He tried though. I score it a B for fans who can look past the bugs and fps.
They have said frame issues will be fixed late july and other qol fixes so hopefully these make it better.

I'm 20 hours in and I'd say I pretty much agree with you. I'd personally rate it a high C for now but once I get into multiplayer I'm sure my opinion will change to a B. And to be honest I haven't really had alot of issue's with the frame rate since the patch, of course some times it gets a little messed up but it's usually minor for me and doesn't really annoy or ruin my experience for me.
The only thing that's disappointing in my opinion is that the story that starts after the administrator fight isn't interesting at all and I'm skipping every cutscene. And the guest design is very basic, repetitive, and feels lazy but in spite of this I still enjoy the game for what it is.
The game is definitely not worth 60 dollars though, I'd personally say it's worth about 40 and some people still think that's too much. But on people who are interested in this game if you really really like sword art online and also like rpg's then I'd say you should purchase it. If your more of a casual fan of sword art online and rpg's I'd honestly just say that you should just wait until it's on sale or skip it entirely because if you're not too into sword art online or rpg's you really aren't gonna like game to much and there are better options out there for someone like you.
So overall you should only buy this game if you're a really big fan of sword art online and rpg's, if not than it's a very fine line on whether it's worth it or not and you really just have to decide that for yourself.
Rank D, I agree because I would rate it a 70 out of 100. I like the combat....once I figured out what I was doing. It seems like Bandai ACTUALLY tried compared to some of their previous releases. They want you immersed. They are also good at updating there IP's. Cant wait to see what they roll out next update. Great honest review.

Well, actually they charged $105 for the better version that has all the dlc, and I bought it because I don't care about grafics (yes I know that's spelled wrong, I just can't be bothered too teach myself how too spell) or fps, the thing that makes a game good too me is that it has too be fun and above all else have a good story and Sao is my favorite Anime, I just love it

Fatal Bullet is awesome. I was able to hit lvl 300 with ridiculous speed, and it's definitely my go to for 3rd person shooting. But Lycoris is EXACTLY what ive been after as an SAO fan. Sure it has it's issues, but so did Fatal Bullet, and look at what a masterpiece it is now.

Well the games engine hasnt been updated in close to 10 years so that may have something to do with it.
Compared to most jrpgs and anime games in this current gen, i think the graphics looks great.
Also I do like this game, and most of the other SAO games that have been made, including the mobile ones), but out of every game Fatal Bullet is by far my favorite. The combat in that one is so smooth, engaging, and fun, & the story is great.

I usually don't like to leave comments but after my personal experience with the game I felt like I had to share it. I subscribed because of the honesty of this review. I like SAO and I usually don't care about frame rates or resolution but... The frame rate is just really so bad. I purchased the game for the Xbox One. I was doing ok until I reached chapter one's boss. You have to fight several bosses one after another with some CGI sequences in between. As the video mentions the game does a terrible job with the auto save so... In a random basis the game freezes with a loud noise. I can't defeat all those bosses without encountering this bug
and the game doesn't allow me to save in between so... I'm stuck.
I have the SOA novels and I watched the anime and I can't even recommend this game for fans. Even if you want to play it just wait for a sale or for few patches so at least you don't get stuck with an unplayable mess. It's a shame because I honestly was looking forward to it. For me the game right now is an F, is literally unplayable for me Thanks!
Never been a fan of any of the Sao games but somehow I like this one very much and I’m enjoying it very much. But I won’t deny the many flaws it has and wish they did it better specially the horrendous save point issue lol
I think I might be the only person who loves this game to me it's just so much fun and the problems I see people take about I don't seem to have
So far I'm about 80 hours into the game with story still to go and I'm loving it
It's got some of the typical gameverse harem aspects but I've grown used to them in the games
Plus some of the social events are great for developing characters with less screen time like Linel and Fizel
The post Human Empire story so far is interesting and kinda what I'd expect from gameverse but mixed with some suprise plot points from Moon Cradle
As for stability issues, I'm playing on a base PS4 and my game only went to shit once when my PS4 had been on for about 30 hours straight
I do have some frame drops in towns but it's been surprisingly fine in combat for me
The normal side quests I haven't cared too much for though but I'll get to them after I beat the story
So far I'd say it's my favourite SAO game, taking the spot from HR
While I have some problems with it like the movement when it comes to trying to get places or the pretty poor customization at launch (they said they're thinking of adding more options) I'm still loving it and I'm so glad that it ditched the god awful OC and characters Fatal Bullet gave us

Hallow realization is my first one i bought on sale and it feels good to me ive always wanted to play an mmo but I don't wanna pay monthly subs and for even more expansions even though i love the ff series i just cant do it.
Hopefully this game will be better down the line. I could totally see a revisit to this game to see if it's better than at launch.
I can't wait to finally reach chapter 2 so I can see what this game really looks like. There is no way it will be as good as Hollow Realization but still.
The game is solid on PC but as you said it requires a really good PC to run it efficiently. I my self haven't really had any FPS issues or other game related issues and get on average 57 fps. The past updates have helped fix a lot of issues that some players have been having. The main things I liked was the character and party customization. The quests are pretty bland but the end game raids are fun. I think I'm sitting at about 80 hours of gameplay as of right now. I'd give it a C, the creators are still actively working to improve the game which is a big plus to me.
don't know if it is said yet or people know this but npcs have time stamps when they go to sleep some don't, so if you want to talk to them you will need to be in the day, you can see them walk in there house sometimes I like that detail but can be anoying. Hope it is useful for those who don't know.

I give it a C mainly because it's a fun game but the frame drops and characters disappearing gets annoying. For the online mode I suggest you play with friends cause if not people will not help you out at all. It is fun but also the story change after chapter 1 is wierd and not that enjoyable. Fighting machanics are fun but this game needs work to be better.

The last SAO game I played was Hollow realization and after that I started to see that there might never be an independent character story in the SAO world where you're not kirito or he has the girls all over him.. Still waiting for maybe one SAO game where everything is a blank slate and you bond with everyone and build up your own relationships with people throughout your journey with choices that affect the ending and can change how party members fight alongside you, the gear you get and certain scenes can be altered depending on who you choose to romance. Hollow re:fragment was the last interesting story with the hallow area actually catching my interest with unique ideas and areas that were five times better than the actual game. Glad I stopped before GGO because I've put money into better games. Hope one day this series gets the game it deserves.

I was expecting something like "not really intuitive story questline", because I have to go to the desert, and the doors are WIDE OPEN but for some reason Kirito says "We're stuck, let's go to Williria"... And I'm like "no, the path is open, what do you mean", and then in Williria I did ALL THE SECONDARY QUESTS but still have to go to Williria cuz' Kirito says so... Am I the only one?

The light novels are awesome, only if you're completely braindead and got zero writing knowledge, you'll think that they have "bad writing".
Yeah, I decided not to buy this game because I saw the graphics and intuited from that the understanding that there would be dozens of game breaking issues. If a game studio can’t be bothered to deSIGN THE MAP TO NOT SHOWN REPEATING TILE SETS, it’s rather obvious that it wouldn’t have been thoroughly play tested, or optimized at all. Such a disappointment. I’ll just enjoy the show and ignore this game.
A game set at what used to be considered AAA game pricing should never be this incompetently put together. My score is an E for the outdated graphics, price point, optimization, and bugs.
Ngl I give it C, I'm a big fan of Sao, the story isn't that bad to me, just usual anime plot things, I'm a big weapon hunter, and I missed Re:Hollow Fragment and this game kinda reminds me of it, though not as well, Realization was OK, but if they kept anything I wish it was the skill minue where you could just spam skills lol and insta kill a boss with 6 skill connects. Online has helped a ton since some people you met are added to your friends list, I do recommend if anyone's gonna play, for chapter 1, GRIND LEVELS, YOU WILL GET STUCK, AND YOU WILL NOT LIKE THE GAME, it took me three days to finish chapter 1 because I was too under leveld to fight the budget boss rush that was going on onnthe top floor.
Attack Damage multiplier is capped at 100% so there are even more hidden factors to get used to with the game but after 67hrs and hitting level 50 i can strongly say this game currently is a 6.5/10
Honestly, the only update I want from this game is where they make it like HR, where when you rename Kirito, the characters call you by that name instead of "Kirito".
And before anyone asks, they could basically do it where the characters pause where they normally would say "Kirito" when there is another name.

I really enjoyed Hollow Realization for its combat system. I thought SSC was fun.
Imagine someone made an SAO game that was good. Why do all anime games look like they have an indie studio budget? Imagine an open world SAO game, similar to season 1, where each floor is its own server, and it's loaded with players. Where professions can be extremely important, dying has extreme punishment (perhaps not as intense as real SAO - more chances to stay alive), multi-year long progression, maybe the odd hidden talent gifted to random players like Kirito. The SAO story and world has sooo much potential to be adapted into a super immersive game, and I feel like nobody has pulled that off yet.
Side note: why tf are you just a re-skinned Kirito??? This game is very raw it seems :(
I had a really rough time with chapter 1. I did not find combat enjoyable, esp the loooooong chain of boss battles with only one save point. It's really hard getting an attack rhythm going due to how much they dodge or how fast they counter attack. And your attack chains heavily relies on timing to deal meaningful damage.
Eventually I unlocked multiplayer and with my sis and her bf's help we powerleveled to 50 before I continued with the main story and I had a much better time. Multiplayer is really awful for main missions because a lot of sequences require all players to sync, so if one person is out doing their own thing or does not have access to the mission, progress is just stopped.
The endgame is pretty satisfying if you have a decent understanding of combat and/or have people to play with. Challenging but a lot more fair than chapter 1.
I would only recommend this game to people who enjoyed hallow realization. I spent a lot of time with that but I had a hard time enjoying it for the same issues as Lycoris. However I loved fatal bullet (so much its one of my few platinumed games)
The fact this game on PC has a recommended 16GB of RAM is ridiculous. Cyberpunk 2077 - a game with a massive lead in the graphics department and in terms of NPCs being loaded compared to this game only recommends 12GB.
I don't see myself playing most JRPGs, in a post-SoulsBorne world. Most modern JPRGs feel archaic and almost obsolete, while souls-like games feel like more modern and freash. It's like seeing the slow, slumbering dinosaurs struggling to survive the meteor crash, while the small mammals play footsies with them.
Tbh I think most people that do not like this game hate it because of frame rate, loading screens, or just because they don't like SAO.
After hearing about the save data issues, I’m definitely going to wait on this game until they actually finish the development. At first I was just gonna wait due to the price, but after hearing about not just the save data issues and some of the multiplayer aspects, I’m not sure I wanna bother with this game now. I’ll probably pick it up at the sweet sweep price of $20 or maybe the criminal price of $10. Doesn’t seem too bad of a game but I can’t say it’s got me interested. A lot of it just looks like some of the previous games when slight improvements in small areas, but most of it seems like it doesn’t have anything new to offer. Great review as always.
Bandai CG cutscenes are like a cheating spouse stole their money when they were just getting good, then come back later at the end just to finish the job
If they just made an SAO style true MMO that wasn't garbage they would make so much money I can't believe that they haven't done it yet

Code Breaker the game just came out, it’s gonna need some time to flesh out and become it’s own entity, deading it in the water right now is foolish.
The game's issues ruin it the combat is fine and Dbz Kakarot LOOKS great but that's about it as an rpg its not great.

I honestly feel like that the game was decent I would really say it’s $60 game there are a lot of bugs with it but it does have its moments the game plays really fun personally I feel like they should do better with the story I felt like fatal bullet was a way better story personally because it was your own character and with that there are a lot of rooms for creativity and stuff like that because the world is amazing but they keep going back to their old routes with the new story threads with new characters into a lot more personally that’s why I like the spinoff series sword art online that they did called gun gale online That series felt fun and we got to explore the more world away more so I feel like if they make a new game like fatal bullet it might be a little bit better

In a year when this is optimized on PC, *IF it gets optimized, it could be a good game.

Tbh this is the hallow realization I’ve always wanted. It fixes a lot of problems I had with the older game. Not a perfect game but enjoyable.
For me it's a C and i looove the effort they Put Into the dialogues

Look, I like RPG’s. I like SAO. I even like the almost retro/mid-to-late-2000’s vibe of the graphics and designs. But the issues pointed out in this video are gonna keep me from buying it, at least at full price.
I’m an adult who works full time, and while I’m more than willing to put in 40-50 hours of game time if it’s a good story and involves good gameplay, I’m not gonna sink a full $60 into a game with decent gameplay but a lot of bugs and a seriously poor story. Especially during a pandemic which has limited my spending power. If I could get a used version of the game that worked with minimal bugs for around $10-20, then I’d probably take the game with some reservations. But for full price? Absolutely not.
Well, works great on gtx960 no lags or fps issues.. also loading went from 10 minutes to 20 sec after locking fps to 30 from main menu. Still feels like a talking simulator.
I'm still waiting for an SAO game to live up to it's name, I'm expecting them to create a game better than FFXIV, a game that's only online.
me too, but withough pay subs, and no point and click fighting mechanics, just a fucking big mmo game, with a lot of customization and builds, dungeons, raids, the fucking 100 floors, option to buy a house, actually "living" in the world "not need to be like Animal Crossing level", but something fun, but we all know the truth, maybe this is just a fan dream to never come to reality

If you are making a sword art game why don't you make it an mmo like it is in the anime. though players should have the option of logging out
I haven't played the game yet, am downloading it on steam now, but I feel like whenever Kirito becomes a potato the game should have skipped forward to when Vecta opens the underworld to any player who wants to join. And so you join in as an unsuspecting Japanese person - or, hell, even act as if your character from Fatal Bullet has come to help Kirito along with the other girls - so your custom character comes in handy. This would have probably been a lot better than what you explained.
EDIT: I understand that this could also cause a problem because this portion of the anime is still airing - so they should have told a completely new actually interesting story henceforth.

Why couldn't they just made the story mode an option, and the end game the actual game. Like in the beginning you have a option of story mode or online mode. The story would be the same but online mode would be a totally different game! It would be fun to just play a sao online open world game and have a option of story mode

Do you guys experience a half-a-second delay on each movement? Is it normal or bug needed to be fixed? It is kind of messing up the character movement especially in battle.
Honestly if you want to play an SAO game just play Accel World vs Sword Art Online or Fatal Bullet.
In my opinion I think deserves a c or b. BUT at least it is not the best but it is not the SAO equivalent to battle of z from the dragon ball franchise (also I would like the frame rate to be improved at least)
also I would call Sword Art Online Alicization Lycoris to be xenoverse of sorts

I just bought it but I've never even watched sao. I'm enjoying the story so far (chapter 1). More so than in the previous sao games I bought anyway
I personally enjoy the game tons, but that being said there's alot of work to be done. Especially revolving around the games functionality and performance

I have played this game and I'm actually really enjoying it, the bugs are annoying yes but every game has them, and they'll be fixed over time like many games are, as for performance I haven't really had any notable issues on the pc version, don't know about console though
