5:30 they’re setting up House Caswell because they’re going to be important: basically they’re from the north of the Reach and the Hightowers are from the south of the Reach, both Tyrell vassals, but the Caswells don’t like how the Hightowers act as if they’re the overlords of the entire Reach when they’re not.

4:02 - Yes, that's true. However, Vaemond gives his true intentions away by selecting himself. If Lucerys is a bastard then the next in line to Driftmark would be the children of Laena Velaryon and Daemon because a son comes before a daughter but a daughter comes before an uncle. So the fact that he wants to claim Dirftmark himself over them gives away his real ambitions which are either purely or mostly personal.

show did well to ensure vaemond went on saying what he said instead of backing down, even though he knew there wont be a good outcome for him. he for one is not taking injustice of entitled tyrants passively. and this is an instance where making his house black fits rather well. scene is full of various subtextual nuances and allusions.
viserys is a well written and acted instance of a horrible father and king, who deceives himself that he is well meaning, but really isn't. he is well meaning only to his daughter, to others, including his children by alicent, alicent herself, and his subjects, he is opposite of well meaning . he is a horrible father, husband and king. foreseeable consequences of his actions prove that clearly
also prophecy can be misleading. that prophecy was probably made intentionally to destroy targs and dragons.

I find it rather appalling Viserys named Rhaenyra his heir and then spent the rest of his life doing nothing to groom her for the role. He didn't give her a seat at the Small Council as an advisor to learn. He didn't give her any responsibilities to test and build herself. He never named her his Hand when she was an adult so she could prepare herself for the throne and being queen. Viserys was a good man but a terribly weak king.

Daemon standing in the way of Aemond just like "Didn't you see me chop a head up earlier over this shit?" kills me everytime.
The King I think was recalling him kneeling with Aemma in the bath where she asked that this be the last child. "No more, Viserys". He was reliving that conversation before his breathing stopped as he responded to it "No more" and then "my love". I assume we're meanted to assume Aemma was who he was seeing.

  • @blackeyedlily

There were a total of five King Aegons in the Targaryen Dynasty. And there were quite a few additional family members who were given that name, but never became king. So that is why it wasn’t that strange for Rhaenyra to give her first born son with Daemon the name of the king who founded the Targaryen dynasty. At the same time it could be considered a bit of a dig at Alicent. I agree that the actor who is playing Aemond looks a bit too old for that role. Especially in comparison to the people they have cast as his siblings and nephews. He starred in the series The Last Kingdom, as a very different type of character. But he was excellent in that role, and I look forward to more of him as Aemond. This was an excellent episode with so many wonderful moments. I also really like the actor who plays Rhaenys. In the books, she has black hair with streaks of silver, because her mother was half Baratheon and half Velaryon. And her father was the oldest son of the king before Viserys. That is why in the very first episode, the Baratheon lord, who was competing in the jousting, called her cousin, and asked for her favor. Rhaenys also rides the fastest dragon, who we haven’t really seen much of yet. The dinner scene was lovely with everyone being civil to each other for once. It is nice to know that was the last memory that Viserys had with his family. Plus that touching moment between the two brothers when Daemon helped Viserys with his crown. I really liked how Jace and Helaena appeared to be having so much fun dancing together. It makes you realize how different things might have been, if Alicent had agreed to marry the two of them, when Rhaenyra had originally proposed it. This definitely was an amazing episode for the actor who played Viserys. He has been an amazing character, all season, and definitely more sympathetic than the same character in the books. I will miss him in the next season. The actor discussed this episode in a behind the scenes video. And he said that in that very final moment where he says, “my love,” he was definitely thinking about his first wife, Aemma as he died. And you were right in thinking that one of the primary reasons that he favored Rhaenyra so much is because of how much she reminded him of her mother.

  • @alexass8987

I really love Rhaenys in this episode and I'm sorry that she doesn't have the strength to defend her position to the end. She adequately raised her granddaughter and perfectly demonstrated her stamina and intelligence. And Rhaenyra, despite the wonderful game of Emma, causes a burning rejection. If the question of the legality of the birth of her son had not been raised once again, there would have been no marriage between her sons and the granddaughters of Rhaenys. Over the years, she never visited her dying father, as if she had lived all this time behind the Wall. But when they arrived with Daemon in the capital, there were 1000 and 1 reason to criticize the conditions of government and maintenance of Viserys. Even at night, Viserys calls Rhaenyra Alicent's name. His wife honestly looked after him all these years, and poppy milk helped the old man live. If there are those who have cared for sick old people, you know what hell this is.

Her and Daemon hadn't come to see visarys in five years despite being only a 30 minute flight away. Had she not needed something from visarys now she never would have came at all. She hadn't been in the room for more than five minutes before she started asking him to help her. Then her and Daemon
see visarys whos dying, and in who's in total agony. Due to his body is rotting away, and shes upset because Alicent is giving him pain medication.
They were on Dragonstone for 5 years, during which Alicent had been lovingly taking care of a dying man who took her for granted.
Visarys was weak and undeserving of Alicent's love and devotion.

I think this will be the last time jump. From what I understand, they wanted to age up the children before the next season so they wouldn't need to change actors in that season.
Also, while I see Vaemond's point about the bloodline, I have 2 thoughts. First, his problem is solved by marrying Laena's children to Rhaenera's, as the children of those unions will have the Valeryon name from their fathers and the Valeryon blood from their mothers. Second, this isn't about the bloodlines or anything Vaemond has to say, it's about the fact that the KING says they're Laenor's children, so they ARE. By saying otherwise, no matter how much truth is on your side, you're going against the king's word.

No, none of that predictable sh*t. Nothing liket hsr would've fit the tone of the moment at all. Viserys last supper is as calm as it is uneventful. Nothing happens....and yet everything happens. It's the last moments of solitude and bliss. A despairing but futile attempt by two old friends separated by the men in their lives to mend a gulf that is about to swallow them whole. It's almost like a window to the world that could've been...and just like that it all gets torn asunder, never to come back again. That is the beauty of it all. The tragedy, the angst.

Vaemond was such a liar and proved Rhaenyra correct. It was about his own ambition after all. Since Rhaenys solved his issue by agreeing to Rhaenyra's proposal. That proposal ensures Driftmark stays in the Velaryons name & bloodline with the grandkids together & already having a close family bond.
Plus Vaemonds anger towards Rhaenyra and Visery, when it was his own brother who chose Lucerys as his heir just as strongly.
The difference in parenting & motherhood is like day and night with Rhaenyra. Rhaenyra truly was born to be an amazing loving mom, all her boys are a credit to her. Plus they've had some great male role models/fathers these past years. Harwin of course being one and Laenor claimed them as his own too, regardless of blood, he loved them. Even Step father Daemon has clearly played a part and earned their respect at least. Daemon actually takes them on as sons once he married his Rhaenyra.
Love seeing the family reuniom scene too so moving seeing Visery in bed seeing Rhaenyra and Daemon after all these yrs, but became sweet too once Rhaenyra introduced Daemyra's 2 new sons Aegon and adorable silver curly locks, Visery II.
Glad Visery at least got to meet them & experience some peace & happiness during the family feast.

In fact, both brothers of Velaryon became victims of their ambitions. One wanted power for his descendants, the other wanted to write his last name in history books and do not care that the authorities would no longer have their own blood. Rhaenyra only proposed marriage between Corlis's granddaughters and her children after the Driftmark began to slip out of her grasp. Prior to this, no proposals were received) So formally, the claims of brother Corlis are justified. It was about his house, which was to be headed by someone else's bastard.

The mother of Jaehaerys and Alyssane was Alyssa Velaryon who married the only son of Aegon I The Conqueror Targaryen and Queen Rhaenys Targaryen who was Aenys I Targaryen. The mother of Aegon I and Visenya and Rhaenys was also a Velaryon. I do enjoy Aegon's character. I like Aemond and I love Daeron. the problem is, people who support Aegon's claim ALWAYS use the "he's the rightful heir cause he has a cock" argument.
book fans fat-shame Rhaenyra, call her names: bitch, whore of dragonstone, etc. and for what?
you can dislike Rhaenyra without being misogynist, but that's not enough for them.

Why wouldn't she call him Aegon? Alicent did not come up with the first one's name, there have been a lot of Aegons.

@@kimcottingham8043Alicent doesnt want to put her son on the throne, she feels she has to or else Rhaenrya and Daemon will kill him to remove the threat he poses. She is encouraged in that belief after it appears they murder Laenor and Vaemond and after their kids attacked and mutilated Alicent's son without being punished or reprimanded at all. She has every reason to think her kids wont be safe with Rhaenyra and Daemon in power.
