She was the former netrunner of the crew, before kiwi and lucy were recruited.
She's part of the reason why Maine was obsessed with chroming himself to the point of turning into a psycho : he wanted to be strong enough to prevent the death of another member of his family.
That's a very nice addition to the lore through such a beautiful animated short, with no line of dialogue, just images telling you everything you lust know.
Yeah. I think it very directly points to what Maine wanted with the sandevistan. He wasn't fast enough to save her.
And yet again a tragic ending in night city, perfectly encapsulating the cyberpunk theme. Makes me think of one of my favourite quotes from Johnny Silverhand from the Cyberpunk 2077 game when V said she hoped for a happier ending for everyone involved.

Just some context for the video for those who don't know, Sasha Yakovleva was the netrunner of Maine's crew before Kiwi and Lucy. Sasha's mother had an illness that only worsened because of the Biotechnica painkillers she took under the assumption that they would help her, but as you can see, those pills had side effects of neurodegeneration undisclosed to the public and ultimately died. Hence why Sasha attempted to expose Biotechnica by uploading the files to the news line. Unfortunately all for nought, as in the Cyberpunk 2077 game, Biotechnica is still thriving.
A small fact: Sasha actually has a sister in the Cyberpunk 2077 game that you can meet and have a mission with, her name is Stella Ramos. Unfortunately other than that, I don't recall Sasha being mentioned in any other way in the game itself.
I'm also not quite sure, but Rebecca may have used the same pistol Sasha had, it's a Militech M-76e Omaha. It could be just a coincidence, but I like to think it isn't.
Funny enough, despite Sasha only having just over 4 minutes of screen time, she became my favourite character from Cyberpunk Edgerunners.

Sasha,one of the few if not the only single person in night city that has a "Happy ending".
To be fair V and Stella have no reason to mention Sasha, but it would have been nice to see Stella at Sasha's plaque.
The pistol that Maine gave to David was Sasha's old pistol
I looked into this, Sasha actually uses a Militech M-76e Omaha.
The one David got from Maine was a Militech M-10AF Lexington.
David does use a Militech M-76e Omaha later on in the series, just not the same one Sasha uses.
The gun that Rebecca uses to greet David at her apartment was also a Militech M-76e Omaha, with a similar paint job to Sasha's. While it probably isn't true, I like to think that Rebecca is using Sasha's old pistol since they knew each other.

Fun fact, the song ,,Phantom Liberty" from Cyberpunk's dlc with the same name, was made by the same guy. Both the creators of cyberpunk and Dawid Podsiadło (singer) come from Poland. They even put him in the game as Dante Caruso
And, I don't cry again with this video... It's raining. Yeah - raining. It's such a great work of art. You get invested in this short time and connect with Sasha. Masterclass.

Irony is that n the game Biotechnica tries to make itself to be whiter than white when they sure as hell are not at this short plus the brilliant song that is on it proves no corp in Night City is every going to be scandal free or controversy free the only reason that people don't know is that any disclosure by employees of confidential and or company secrets means "termination" of you and even potentially those close to you.
What Sasha did there was in my eyes honourable and showed guts, what happened to her mother was disgraceful. Ironic, you get a side gig in CP2077 in which you have to take out a particular Biotechnica executive who has pulled the same stunt with different people under different circumstances but the same damn MO. Just a shame, like so many others, Sasha had to pay the highest price for having a moral spine.
Yeah, I started a Corpo playthrough the other day, and burst out laughing when I got a report from a spy that Biotechnica was apparently "squeaky clean". Either the spy really had been "mushroomed", or, more optimistically, increased public scrutiny kept Biotechnica on their best behavior, or at least do a bunc hof good deeds to rehabilitate their image.
This song and this video get me every time. What a mini masterpiece. Every bit as good as the series.
You guys should play cyberpunk 2077. Had a really rough start when it launched. And a pretty rough year or two after. But its fantastic now. 2.0 update. Im willing to bet you'd both really enjoy it

A popular headcanon is that Sasha dying under his command is what made Maine so insistent on being strong, getting more and more implants and refusing to downgrade. Her death also put the crew short one Netrunner, so she was replaced by Lucy, or possibly Kiwi depending on the exact timeline, who in turn brought David in, so in a way, this one incident was the inciting event for a good portion of the series.
And yeah, it really is incredible how they managed to introduce a whole new character with a backstory, create a plot tied to that backstory, and explain it all to the viewers in less than five minutes, without even a single line of (Spoken) dialogue. The music is fantastic, too, and the lyrics fit the visuals perfectly.
I remember you mentioning the possibility of a Cyberpunk playthrough. Any word on that?

If you havent, yall should play the game, sick soundtrack, awesome world to dive into, and the story is "depressing and powerful" it takes place 1 year after Edge Runners.

Cyberpunk is a dystopian genre to begin with, but every such story is one of struggle against the reality that seeks to swallow everything good. And I suppose righteous people shine brightest in such darkness. We can't help but hope for better things, regardless of where it might lead us.

So edge runners was a 1 and done series….. but the studio has said they want to work with cd projekt red again…. It may not be cyberpunk related…. But as for series right now there are no plans for a second season….

Yeah, this one's a doozy lol. From what I know the mc's mother was ill and was taking drugs that were supposed to help her, so it wasn't even her mother's choice to continue taking them
