    The classical music made this build such a joy to watch! Complements the dramatic cinematography of this film. Absolutely love it!

    When I was a kid back in the 70's I got a frame from a scrapyard & put together my own bike with half rusted & improvised tools, little knowledge - being only 8/9yrs old - & lots of cussing. Now at 53yrs old I'm looking to retrain as a bike mechanic & it has to be said that this video was TRULY INSPIRATIONAL.
    P.S. If ParkTool are looking to franchise in Sweden, I have managerial experience & would be proud to represent such skill & obvious pride in workmanship.

    Is it because the frame is provided that way, for standard reasons?

    • @pyro637
      @pyro637 8 місяців тому +2

      He's facing the surfaces to ensure they're completely flat and parallel from each other. Some frame manufacturers are worse about getting these clearances right. If they're off, then the bearings may not seat properly which can cause noise or greatly shorten bearing life. It can also result in ovaling of the frame in which case replacement bearings won't get right after.

    • @parktool
      @parktool  8 місяців тому +8

      We asked that the finish work be left for us to do on this bike. Custom frame manufacturers send the product with these processes already done unless asked not to. During the manufacturing process the tubes distort and need to be realigned. The cutters and reamers achieve this.

    • @tomvonderharr865
      @tomvonderharr865 8 місяців тому

      While I'm sure Park's video in the works will be more comprehensive than my reply here, there's not a lot different on them in basic theory. Still have limit screws, still have cable tension. What's nice about the new toggle-style is that tension has an adjustment right on the derailleur body, no need for frame mounted barrels or inline adjusters. The main difference is the support screw changes the initial install positioning when mounting to the frame. But having worked on a bunch of these in the shop, I will say the trim isn't always the best even when everything is done correctly, seems to vary from unit to unit, and not necessarily based on tier (105/Ultegra/DuraAce) either. Usually on bad ones I can make the high trim good, but the low trim has little to no effect. Some frames are also not well designed to accommodate the support screw and plate, and it prevents getting a truly good low limit setting.

    • @jagoss45
      @jagoss45 8 місяців тому

      @@tomvonderharr865 I was having a problem with no low trim and I managed to get it back. I followed a procedure on Cycling-obsession that went step by step. I think I had a low limit issue as well as an issue with the cable tension screw being maxed in so I just released the cable
      And started over. Now it works in all 4 positions including hi and lo trim.

    next we will have 'sand bikes' to supplement our quiver beyond gravel. I also suggest (for the USA) a chip seal bike, for those of us who have surfaces with tar sprayed then covered by sharp edged gravel. no its not 'gravel'!! its chip seal!!!!

    Love everything about this video except that anytime i see anyone without eye protection ect working around metal shaving , it gets me paranoid.
    Having metal shaving floating around and landing in your eye is no joke
