One of my favorite Japanese bands. This song is cool but doesn't give a sense for how truly dynamic and wild these guys get; when they start rapidly switching between SOAD-style extreme metal/punk/funk/J-pop/ska/hardcore on their best songs, they get truly wild.

      Right?
I always kinda felt the fame of them doing songs for Deathnote kinda rendered them a novelty for a lot of people.
"That crazy japanese band from anime!"
Which as you mentioned, really sucks because these guys are underrated musical geniuses.

Daisuke-han isn't actually the lead vocal, but his role is officially called "the noisy screaming one". Ryo is the main vocal and he writes all the songs. But he's very shy so he never speaks in gigs so Daisuke does all the talking.

Very interesting. So Daisuke could be seen as playing an instrument that isn't always present. That's so rarely seen in rock/metal groups and intrigues me.

MtH are the masters of transitions and genre mixing 🤘If you haven’t heard them yet, I recommend checking out their songs Yoshu Fukushu, Maximum the Hormone II -Let’s Talk about Menkata Cottelee, and Buiikikaesu.
For some other amazing Japanese bands with multiple vocalists (or dual vocalists in these cases), I recommend:
Sokoninaru: Gou Ni Moyu, Tenohira De Odoru, and Lament Moment.
A crowd of rebellion: Dystopia, M1917, Ill, and Satellitear.
    mildrage: Armeria, and Silent Spear.

there is alot more then just those song you listened to. I just wish they had more then 4 albums and a smattering of EP releases. Back in 2007 I purchased my first cd of theirs of the album Bu-ikikaesu (ぶっ生き返す) after hearing them on deathnote op and ending cause I am weeb. I feel people only recommend their later releases outside of the songs older songs that have MV of the song and are reallly missing out.

The best example of their group vocals might be Chisana Kimi no Te (Your Little Hand), a tongue-in-cheek J-pop/rock song about motherhood. All four are “singing” singing. I highly recommend you check it out to see the breadth of their talent.
Also, be sure to check out Yoshu Fukushu. Lots of vocal and musical styles in one song about being bullied in 8th grade, wrapped in an amazing video.

From a composition standpoint the band doll$boxx is an absolute must. Don't wanna spoil to much, but they do some really creative vocal composition stuff. Most musically involved people fall in love with them. Multiple singers
Maximum the hormone, check out the song yoshu fukushu next. Shows you more of their serious side.

If you check out their song VAP, the harsh vocalist is the drummer and the drummer just sings.

This might be a bit of theorycrafting, but the guitarist, Maximum the Ryo-kun, is the lead songwriter for the band, and controls a lot of their creative direction, which might explain why he is such a focal point for their music.

    • @CriticalReactions
      @CriticalReactions  3 роки тому +3

That just intrigues me even more. How often does the harsh vocalist end up not having anything to "contribute" to the music because he only does harsh vocals? I'm gonna have to dig more into these guys.

@@CriticalReactions hmmmm, it's kind of a trade off between the 2. I mean 4. If I had to say, it depends on what section of the song they're in. Another song, Koi no Megalover, goes between a poprock section where the drummer/guitarist harmonize, and a metal section where it's the singer mainly, with some gang vocals and a line by the guitarist.

I really like the song, it was like a japanese version of system of a down, the vocals were very very similar.

One of my favorite bands! If you want to check out some older song I would recommend “恋のスペルマ”, not sure what the english name is. Its an older song, but the more recent music video shows off the fun side of the band in their live shows. I believe that they do sing about serious topics, but it is always in their fun genre mashup style. I think typically the lead vocals are split pretty evenly between the lead vocalist and the guitarist. But there is even a song where the lead vocalist doesn't sing at all and the drummer takes over the vocals.

恋のスペルマ: “Koi no Superuma” (don’t ask what it means) ;-)

Love the breakdown man. Great job. There are many J-rock/metal bands out there that are explosive and very technically sound as well like Band-Maid, Unlucky Morpheus, Hanabie, Lovebites etc. Maximum the Hormone love to suprise and troll listener so do check them out more. "Koi no Sperma" for a change of pace is pretty fun plus I want to hear your input on the band scream rap on that one. SHIMI LIVE AIR JAM 2011 is a live one too.

For the multiple singer week, you totally should try "Rosso Sangue" from Intormentataquiete. Pure poetry based avant-garde metal with lyrical singing and screamo, trust me is such an experience.

Hmmm, I don't remember you reacting to these guys before... maybe it was before I was a regular. Anyway, this was pretty nutty. I'm somewhat ambivalent. I think as is typical with such "blender" bands I find myself appreciating how much they mix it up and the combination of disparate elements more than any of the individual elements or even whole itself. It's like, most of the fun comes from not knowing what's coming next and the surprise at whatever does. One thing I do really dig here is the versatility of the vocals. Reminds me a lot of System of a Down, but maybe with a bit more technical proficiency. I do wish the instrumental aspects were a bit more interesting: too much of it is very generic metalcore riffs. So, yeah, ambivalent but I'm definitely interested at least.

You should definitely check out the other one I did, though I'll suggest the original video since I had to blur it to get it unblocked. It has one section that just completely throws off the song but I love so much just for their resolution to add it in regardless. The transition out of it is great though. ua-cam.com/video/IC-wDpwzEt4/v-deo.html

I know that the translation function is not powerful enough, but if you're talking for such a long time, you should turn on the translation.
If this channel is supposed to be a community for people who have mastered English, I don't see why not.
note: This comment was translated with free software, so some parts may be wrong.

I definitely agree with another commenter who suggested you check out DOLL$BOXX, their track Take My Chance would be a great place to start if you're interested in compositions with multiple singers. The basic structure of the song is very simple: the minor "Sensitive Female Chord Progression" for pre-chorus and chorus (Am, F, C, G) and an A phrygian dominant vamp for bridges and verses.
Counter-point between the lead singer and the drummer/keyboard player on backing vocals is developed in the pre-chorus then goes full fledged in the chorus with two separate melodies going together to make a unified whole.
If you're interested you can check out either the official MV here which also shows their humorous side: ua-cam.com/video/mu2z4Uf9Tgc/v-deo.html
Or there's also an excellent live version here: ua-cam.com/video/GiWSW8YkBfs/v-deo.html
