Nothing inspires dread more than a fast session when you're deep into marathon training. You smashed it! That also looks like a really good workout loop--flat and clear
Great session Ryan it shows your progress is going well l think doing your sessions alone is a true reflection of being strong willed and your in a good place with your marathon training good luck with your 10k coming up l hope you smash it and your happy with your race Ryan 🙏
Good to know I'm not the only one that feels a bit nervous (or tense as you put it) before a speed session. Especially if I'm planning on hitting specific paces. Hell of a workout! The dropped GoPro was actually POV footage of most of us trying to match that pace. 😅
It was always the same when I was growing up and racing different distances. The shortest ones came with the most nerves because you have to hit them hard from the start. Hahaha, yeah it really took a tumble
Those reps were fast! How often do you hit a rep session like that in a marathon block? I used to do them every week, but it sounds like you hit them less frequently than that? Loving the content 👌
Thank you! Yeah I did a 10K focussed block before starting the marathon block and then went 14 weeks where I focussed on purely half marathon and marathon type sessions. I found this left me feeling like anything quicker than marathon pace was really quick so did a variation of this session 3 times in the last 4 weeks and it helped a lot (the last one was 5 days out so that wasn't too hard)
Thank you for your response. So you work on threshold far more than Vo2, only sharpening up in the last few weeks. At my old club, we used to race reps every week, which was probably far too often! 😏
@ it also does depend on what you’ve done before. I came through the age groups running 800/1500/5K so don’t have that much scope for improvement by doing a lot of those sessions. If it’s a weakness of yours and your speed is what holds you back then you’ll need it a lot more often
I only really get new pairs for marathons. I’ll train in a pair for the whole block and then before a marathon do 2 sessions (probably around 20 miles) in a brand new pair. For any shorter races I’ll just wear my best pair and for training I’ll just rotate through the pairs I’ve collected over the past 2 years. As long as they don’t have holes they’re fine for training!
The garmin is set up for the session which means it will auto lap every time and I just need to go on garmin connect after and look at each lap pace. The recovery was 1 minute of jogging throughout the whole session!

Haha yeah, it's always the same with the fast sessions. Thank you! An industrial estate is usually a fairly safe bet if you avoid rush hour
Loving this content. Good honest no BS hard work.
Thanks very much!
Incredible paces, good on you! Very excited to see how you do at Valencia!
Thank you!!
Savage, absolutely flying and super strong 💪
Thanks very much!
Unreal pace man, love how consistent they all were too. Smash the Bella next week, looking forward to your update from it🎉
Cheers Shaun! Should be good!
Thanks, love your videos! Keep it up and good luck for the race.
Thanks very much!!

Thank you! Having my dad on the bike helps a lot, especially on the long tough days when I can just sit behind him haha
Great session and great video. There’s nothing like that pre-session fear haha
Thank you! Haha yeah it never goes away no matter how many sessions you do
Your warm up would be a good work out for me!

You gotta get out to a camp in Iten, Kenya. Talk to Luiz Orta, he organises these things
I was actually out in Kenya in January and loved it. Hoping to go again early next year!
Great stuff.
Thank you!

Nice video man!!!
Thank you!!
How often would you change your carbons for
A) Racing
B) Training
Do you move your racing ones down to training after a certain amount of miles?

Some speed in those old legs yet!
Let’s race
@@Ryan.Thomson I'll see you down the track with my bike 👀
Sorry I missed this. Is the option of a meet up still available? 😏
@Ryan.Thomson Sorry I missed this. Lmao no
😢😢
Nice work! How to determine the pace for the 3 2 1? Do you recover in between them or continuos?
He gives details at 2.40 approx.

Bellahouston 10k my guess hope it goes well mate 🏃♂️👏🏻
You’re right! I did it 2 years ago and loved it so looking forward to more of the same!!
