Hello! We’re Chesca & Ben, and we live full time in our self converted sprinter van, Sophia. We spent 6 long months converting our tiny home on wheels, turning her from a workhorse into a place we call home. At the beginning of 2020, we were chasing the winter sun around Spain and Portugal. But when the pandemic hit, we found ourselves back home and waiting it out on Chesca's mum's driveway. Life suddenly took on a different rhythm. But now, 6 months later, we're back on the road and ready to chase some adventure 🌍 🚐

Hi guys, I suggest to visit Sila National Park in Calabria where the landscapes look like Canada! And you are not that far from the sea. More or less, all the inner areas of Calabria are very wild and outstanding with endless fir and pine forests, lakes and fairytales woods. Have a safe trip out there. Jack from Rome
The south of Italy has some great roads, sorrento and the amalfi coast are spectacular, haven’t been more south than that yet, I’m watching eagerly to see what’s awaiting me some day..
I’ve been binge watching all of the last 4 months videos one after another, enjoying everything you do and suggest. Thanks for Capturing your journey with so much detail.. 👍👌
Thank you for continuing to watch our journey Mark! It’s so cool to see you getting closer and closer to real time. What a legend you are! 🥳
Loving your videos. We are stuck in Swansea under lockdown and not able to leave the county and now Welsh Gov are stopping people from coming into Wales from high infected areas. Looking forward to your twice a week videos. Stay safe and well guys and keep it coming our way. Love it!
From speaking to family back home, it’s all getting very tense and difficult back home. Sending our love to you in Wales and hope you’re coping okay with the new lockdowns. Hopefully the upcoming Sicily videos can provide you some escapism! 🧡 x

It already feels a lifetime away! Thank you for sharing this crazy adventure with us and being with us every step of the way. Sending lots of love to you from Italia xx
@@OverlandingSophia not sure if your able to keep up with the news but France big cities are under curfew and the numbers in Italy are really climbing. So there’s a chance it could happen there. Be safe guys the world needs you 3!
Glad you uploaded today. Happy your upload twice a week. Stay safe.
Thank you Rach, we're happy to be uploading twice a week too 😊Less stuff on the cutting room floor and more chance to show you the day-to-day of what we get up to. Keep safe too! Chesca xx
The cinematography in this video has improved so much!! I think the talent of Jits in to the sunset has brushed on to you guys
Thank you 💕
How lucky are we 2 videos a week now that’s great good idea moving the van in the storm just in case bless river living her best life 💕🐶
Yay, we’re so glad you’re on board with the twice weekly videos! Yeah, that’s the first time we’ve ever had to move the van in the night! Better safe than sorry 😅 xx
First video seen like 1hr ago can't stop anymore so happy that you stumble in the Valley of Temple of Paestum, I live near there so much proud of my land
You live in such a beautiful part of the world! We had such a magical time there 💛
Thank you 😊 when I see this kind of video I realize how lucky I am and I feel proud to live here
So excited for 2 episodes ,this is better than TV, love all the places your showing us places that most of us have never seen, for those 20 minutes it takes me away to a chilled out place, cant wait till Sunday.
Thank you for your endless support! 😭The fact that our videos transport you away from reality for a little while means the world. So glad you’re on board with the twice weekly episodes! We’re loving doing them already 🥰 xx
Yay!! Two vlogs a week, you've made my day...thankyou.

Thank you for the second helping we are now getting. Thoroughly enjoyed this one and did seem less rushed. Great to see you having a good time even through that storm. Stay safe. Mal and Dave in Stoke
Thanks you two! Great to get feedback on the new schedule and glad you felt this one was more chill 😊
Woooo the first Wednesday upload and you smashed it! Beautiful shots and storytelling. 🌟🌟🌟 An absolute pleasure to watch and what a treat we get to see you again on Sunday! You make us feel like we’re right there with you 🥰 xx T
Love how you always appreciate the little things about the vlogs 💕 You know what it’s like for us ‘behind the scenes’ and that being able to concentrate on good shots and storytelling is what makes me most excited for the twice weekly episodes! Xx
The best thing is opening your UA-cam only to be surprised with another video of yours!! Absolutely going to enjoy this with a nice cup of tea:)
Ah thank you so much Anna! Hope you enjoyed it, a cup of tea sounds like a great idea *goes to put kettle on myself* ☺️ xx
Hey, my wife and I toured Italy for 6 weeks in June and July this year. If you haven't been to Pompei I would defiantly go on your way back up. Its nothing like what we thought it would be and as close as you'll get to time travel. Also if you get the chance go to lago Sirino. It has one of the best free van parking we found in italy with an amazing restaurant just the other side of the lake. Have fun!
Thank you Francis! Ben and I visited Pompeii/ Amalfi coast a couple of years ago and loved it! You’re right, walking those old streets really was like time travel. Lago Sirino.. sounds wonderful! Best van parking and an amazing restaurant?! Count us in! 🥰 x
Ahhhh yaaaaaasssssss made my day. Definitely breaks the week up Love it, another great vlog, and always better to be safe the sorry. 🤙
Hahah yaaaas!! Glad you're on board with the twice weekly videos Dave 😎
Brilliant video again
Yeah, 2 videos per week, looking forward to that! Yes, better safe than sorry by moving the van to safer ground. Always trust your instincts. That was pretty awesome having that whole beach campground to yourselves. Safe travels, see you in Sicily. Ciao
Thank you Adele! We're looking forward to releasing 2 videos a week 😊It's crazy how quiet it is in Italy! We haven't seen any UK campers, and everywhere is eerily empty. Mixture of the pandemic + off season I guess. Very strange times to be travelling for sure x
1st time viewer via Indie Project... your dog River is Gorgeous!!! The Temples were amazing... as good as those in Agrigento, Sicily.
Ah thank you Maria! River is blushing 💕🐶 Weren’t they just?! We were just so surprised we’d never heard of them before!
@@OverlandingSophia My roots are Sicilian from near Agrigento so look forward to seeing the Temples there.
Yay! Hurrah for the extra video! Despite all the rain, the adventures still look amazing. Have you folks been to Sicily before?
Yay! Italian rain is very different from British rain 😂It's still a beautiful country, even when it's damp! No, neither of us has been to Sicily before. Do you have any recommendations?!
@@OverlandingSophia I haven't been in 20 years so my memory is a bit foggy! But I stayed with a friend who lived in Cefalu which is a really pretty seaside town. I'm sure you will love Sicily - it's stunning - I'm really looking forward to living vicariously through you two xox
Really enjoying your travelling series - that’s what’s it’s all about! Fascinating to see some of Italy I haven’t seen too. Makes me want to go once my van is ‘finished’ 😆. Safe travels and I hope the twice weekly goes well. If you need to miss some uploads now and again then do. Always be kind to yourselves and each other
Thank you John! Glad to hear you're enjoying the videos, you should definitely get out yourself out here - a van is never finished 😜 x
Sooooo happy you are going to do two vlogs a week. Great video. What fab temples!!
Yay! We’re excited for the twice weekly vlogs too! It means less footage cut out and more van life to share with you ☺️ xx
Oh what a treat to have 2 videos from you per week. That Roman ruins looked incredible, what a find. Sorry about the rubbish weather. Just can't believe how quiet it looks there. Enjoy Sicily. Make sure you explore Taormina - you'll probably find it hard to park, but go up to the Amphitheatre at the top of the town - you can see the volcano from there too. I was there years ago filming a TV show that was held at the ruin -such fabulous memories. xx
Hello lovely 💕 Thank you for the tip about Taormina, we’ll check it out if we can. Sounds right up our street! How amazing you filmed a TV show there - what is it that you do?! Xx
Oh how lucky we are now to get two vlogs a week!! 😍😄 Ahh loved this one as per guys. Always brings me joy and it's so so nice to see you all exploring and just enjoying the world 😄xx
Yay! So glad to hear you're as excited about the twice weekly vlogs as we are! 😍 xx
Love today’s vlog thanks for the extra vlog xx
Thank you Helen! It’s our pleasure! 😘
Glad you're going to do the two vlogs a week. I'm surprised how far south you have travelled already! Great content as always and the editing is going up a notch.. So relaxing and enjoyable. Those temples were stunning what a cool location! Anyways look forward to Sunday 😃
Thank you Tony! We’ve surprised ourselves at how far south we travelled 😅 The temples were a highlight for sure, definitely recommend visiting them. Can’t wait to see what Sicily has in store!
Awesome you stumbled upon Paestum; it's such a beautiful site and so underrated!
Isn't it just?! Can't believe we'd never heard of it before! Truly awe-inspiring to be there 😊
Hello from Canada, just subscribed yesterday and loving your trip to Italy. Paestum is a wonderful archeological site, worth the visit. Great to hear there will be 2 videos a week. Looking forward to Sicily!
Hey Sue, that's wonderful to hear, welcome! Paestum was so beautiful, can't believe so many people have never heard of it. Sending love to Canada from Italia! xx Chesca
Italy is so different from what you expect, there are so many amazing places and cool towns etc to visit- The beaches are very nice, but the water looks so terrible wet. I love the beach but hate the water.😉 River simply have the cutest face ever 🤗👍💐
It's such a beautiful country! Even in the rain it's full of soul. Haha the water around Italy is some of the most beautiful you can swim in - but not at that black sand beach 😬 River says thank you for the compliment - she's cute and she knows it! 😜 🐶 xx
yes yes! thanks for more content, hopefully you can keep up the uploads, love!
We hope so too! Lots to explore and share of Sicily 🥳☺️ xx
Little late to the new video today, my bad. Anyway what a wonderful vlog, the ruins you've visited seemed to be such a nice place! Enjoy Italy for me! xx 🥰
Haha we'll forgive you.. this once 😋The ruins were truly spectacular, especially if you're into history/culture. Hopefully we've escaped the worst of the weather and can get stuck into exploring this beautiful country! Sending love from Italia! xx
@@OverlandingSophia it rained so bad today in south germany (were I live), the sight of a beach and kinda sunny weather really helped my mood, even though traveling and good weather won't be a thing I'll see till april at best 😂
There was a re-enactment tv series in the 70`s called Up Pompeii! showing you what life was like :)
Thank you for the latest video. Me and my wife have enjoyed binge-watching all of your videos since we discovered your channel. We felt even more connected to your travels when we discovered your backgrounds, as we live in northern Derbyshire and I am from Plymouth, Devon! We have a camper van arriving in March and hope to travel Europe after having our Asia travels cut short this year due to Covid-19!! Your experiences are an inspiration and we look forward to following your travels vicariously as we plan our next adventure. By the way, if you get a chance to travel out to Stomboli volcano whilst you are in Sicily.... do it! I worked there as a geologist 30 years ago and it was an amazing experience, especially at night time with the lave eruptions! take care.
i'd forgotten the message about Wednesday and Sunday videos so finding this was a really nice surprise. This is gorgeous and despite having travelled around the bay of Naples and Amalfi coast several times, i've never encountered Paestum!!!! How could that be!!!!! Since you find this sort of place interesting, can i suggest when travel that far is permitted, that you try and travel to Iran and visit Persepolis.... now that is amazing and reduced me to tears when I went, such was my awe at being there.....
Paestum is so underrated!! I couldn't believe we'd never even heard of it, when it's such a magnificent and awe inspiring place to wander around. Hope you get to go back and explore the ruins one day 😊Ah Iran... we would LOVE to visit there in our van. Hopefully one day when the borders re-open, we can make our way there. We love ancient history and can completely understand you being moved to tears by Persepolis, I would be the same 🚐💞
Hey Chesca Ben and River it’s amazing how long the Roman temples have been standing and yet the rubbish we build today won’t be around in 2000 years . Looking forward to twice weekly vlog., as long it as it doesn’t detract from your enjoyment. I like empty beaches where you can walk in peace and just watch the waves. Please stay say, cheers 🍷🍷from Australia 🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺
Isn’t it just?! These ones were Greek too - over 2000 years old... just can’t quite believe it, the tales those walls could tell, if only they could speak xx
... go ahead and laugh (disclaimer for my confession here)- but I love to imagine the energy of buildings/stones/nature "talking" to me about the past...yes tree hugger here that would also be a column hugger...my most epic visits to scandinavian viking churches /old buildings as a child...for me, it's the best about exploring...ty for this vid🤍
Wow this was unexpected great vlog stay safe guys 👍🏴👍
Thank you guys! Hope you're all doing well 💞
@@OverlandingSophia yeah all good that storm was epic fair play poor river bet she wondered what the hell it was lol 👍🏴👍
Hahah she was okay until a huge lightning crack, then she hopped into bed with us for the rest of the night 😂
@@OverlandingSophia that's the way lol 👍🏴👍
My temple!! Lovely video guys and great to see a different side of Italy :)
Yes!! I literally thought of you when we were there, I meant to send you a message 😍And thank you, Italy kept surprising us this week x
Those temples 😲 so magnificent 😍
So beautiful! And so old! Just incredible to think what’s happened around those walls 🤯
Conad is great! I hope you liked it.
Look forward to biweekly. All your content is high value so more is most welcome, sad to discard it.
Great trip on the temples, no idea about them till now. Hope the weather holds 🤞
Thank you Clive! Great to have you on board with the twice weekly videos, we’re loving it already 🧡 xx
❤ GR8 VID ~ LOVED IT ❤
Definitely wouldn't have though that Italy has black sand beaches! It looked lovely! We have also never heard of that places at the beginning, they looked amazing! :)
I know! We were expecting a big golden beach or something, not anything quite so dramatic! Italy has volcanos though, so I guess it makes sense?! Hope you guys are having fun in France 😊
Still worth checking the weather forecast and chase the sun in Italy in October.
Benvenuti in Italia! 👍 Peccato per il tempo...! Avreste dovuto venire da me sul lago di Como... 😜😘
Yes yes yes for 2 episodes a week!
Yay! Glad you're as excited about them as we are! 😊 🚐
Awesome guys Italy is beautiful 👍🏻
Isn't it just! Even in the rain 😊
I have been there, thought it was absolutely amazing, no crowds .
Yes!! So many people have commented who have never even heard of it before. Such an underrated place. Which is also a good thing as it means you can explore the ruins at leisure, without the crowds 💞
That would be me, leaving the shower gel in the shower every single time 😂
😂
Great vlog, keep smiling, safe travels.
Thank you Stephen! 🥰 xx
I suggest to visit the medieval villages of central Italy, built entirely of stone
Yes come in Marche.
Marche rules
@@speedwagon1657 Visit Offida, it's gorgeus
Where do you come from?
Awesome !!
☺️✌️
The weather is looking good for next week for Sicily🤞☀️☀️☀️ hoping to make it there by the weekend, maybe. Also, Eurospin is such a cheap supermarket in Italy!
Thanks for the tip on Eurospin! We thought it was like Poundland without food 😂 We made it to Sicily without any problems, have you made it across yet or are you still on the mainland? Xx
@@OverlandingSophia haha yeah it does sound and look like a bit of a weird shop but it's a winner! Does some nice vegan burgers too! We're in Tropea atm, probably Sicily Sunday or Monday. Let us know if you find any epic park ups x
I'm sorry to tell you that the weather isn't too good in Sicily at the moment, but if you like temples be sure to visit Segesta in the province of Trapani.
My other half was saying it was lovely in Sicily yesterday! 19-21C and sunny!
The weather hasn’t been too bad! Yesterday was lovely! We can’t change the weather so will just make the best of it as we can ✌️☺️xx
Oh Yes, unexpected videos are great! )))
Yay, thank you Sergei!!
Oh, I said that wrong, they would have to quarantine in England for 2 weeks. They got the word the night of the 14th so they left on the 15th so they could be back in England before 4 a.m. on the 18th., their deadline.
Such storms are normal in Italy
It was epic! We could enjoy it once we were sure we weren't being flooded in 😊
Twice a week will be great
Glad you’re on board Chris! 👍
Every time you come on we always say is river going to be short or long hair . As our lady did not get her long coat till she was about 1 . Sorry always watch you both but always thought I had pressed that bell . Have now . Have a great trip
Thank you Debra! We’re pretty sure River is a short coat and will stay that way. She is getting fluffy around her scruff though bless her 🐶 xx
I just watched Travel Beans(from England) who have been in Italy. They just released a video today saying they were making a mad dash back to England because other wise they would have to quarantine in Italy for 2 weeks. What are you guys going to do? Good Luck!
Hey! We have plans to stay out here until December, which we are going to stick to as long as Italy allows. We thought we’d have to quarantine anyway so we’re taking that into account for when we return ☺️ It’s exhausting keeping on top of what’s happening and with which country! Strange times we’re living through. Hope you’re keeping safe xx
@@OverlandingSophia Good! Glad to hear you are staying, sending good thoughts your way. I take care of my 89 year old mother, we are well.
Hmmm, new standard van equipment, inflatable floats attached to your runningboards. If you wake up in the middle of a newly created pond, flip the inflation valve then let River jump in & tow you to high ground!
Hahaha don't give Ben any ideas 😂
Love video stay safe xx
Thank you Joan! 😘 You too xx
My van is nearly finished
Just in case you don't know, the huge valle dei Templi di Agrigento and Selinunte, Siracusa Ortigia and Taormina are the finest ancient Greek sites in Italy and they are all in Sicily. I went in Athens and imho Agrigento is better
In all the years travelling Italy we never saw rain like that. You did the sensible thing to move. Climate change?
I've been in France and Italy for almost two months and haven't yet seen a UK campervan
Same!! We didn't even see the other UK camper, but Ben spoke to the guy at the beach. Seen lots of Germans and Dutch, but no UK motorhomes or campers at all. Very strange how quiet it is everywhere.
I know it was an arse ache to move the van in the night but better safe than sorry.
Love your Italy video its a trip we are planing to do the coast road right round italy. really looking forward to seeing your adventure. Just asking why is only one of you wearing a mask even though only odd times, we are in a pandemic and italy is having its second wave as is the uk now. Stay safe love you guys, michael uk
Hi Michael! Just to address the mask issue - I am wearing a mask all the time, except when I'm vlogging, I have it on my wrist that's holding the camera. As soon as I finish vlogging I put it back on. It's compulsory in Italy to wear it in public places, plus we would want to wear it anyway to be safe 😊 Hope this video gives you some ideas of what to do on your trip - although we haven't done much sight seeing so far 🙈Italy is incredible, wish we had the time to do the entire coast road like you! x Chesca
good video guys i missed you both but can you tell us all how much a week on the road and food cost you fuel
Hey Terry, that's a good question. A typical week of food costs us between £100-120, and fuel varies. If we're doing big drives like we have recently, then we can spend a lot on fuel. Prices for diesel here in Italy are around 1.24 euro per litre 👍
@@OverlandingSophia thank you for the message back guys and not for getting the dog and stay safe as well and mk sure you allways wash your hands
I am very sure that 2000 years ago they just downloaded a lift this stone up for me please app. They used clay pot's for batteries in those days, how crude hehe. JK. Fun Story and Thank you. :)
I think we all know it was aliens 👽😉
Defo getting used to Italian vanlife then guys.. If yr not being woken up by huge thunderstorms it’s usually a load of locals in their hot hatches playing loud music 😆
I don’t know for sure but it felt like the south of Italy was where the local “Italians” went on holiday, away from the touristy North and it’s out of season atm so it will be quiet 🤔
Our first memory of Sicily was the drive to the crossing at Reggio Calabria.. The road was so high up in the clouds and it felt like we were on the set of a King Kong movie 🎥
Think the sea you were looking at was the Tyrrhenian Sea 🌊
🚐💨🇮🇹❤️
Love a good thunderstorm! When we’re not being washed away by it that is... 🙈
Yes you’re right, south Italy feels very authentic and even the touristy areas feel very Italian! It’s very quiet everywhere at the minute. Mixture of COVID and off- season leads to a fair few ghost towns en route.
That road to Sicily sounds amazing! Hopefully we make it there in the next few days. Currently parked up overlooking Stromboli 🥰 and you’re 100% right, it’s the Tyrrhenian Sea 🌊
All in all, loving Italian van life! It’s interesting, not so easy and keeps us on our toes. It’s quite an addictive country really ☺️ xx
@@OverlandingSophia - Congrats ... you’ve seen a bit of Italy I haven’t 😆 (Stromboli)
Be careful that addiction will turn into an Obsession.. I can see yr falling in love with 🇮🇹❤️
🚐💨xx
PS - wait until yr first sight of Etna 🌋😍
Yes but also people from northern Italy tend to spend their summer in the other northern Italian regions that have access to the sea. For example people from Turin go to Liguria, which is the nearest area for them, but Southern Italy has less foreign tourists (except for the Amalfi coast, Sorrento peninsula, Tropea and Taormina) than Northern Italy.
That beach where they were filming is full of Neapolitans when it's summer 😅
I love free shower gel . Yes I’m that guy but hey finders keepers I guess . Lol every where is dead same all over Europe I know so many people that work dure in summer and the industry has been hit hard by covid . And only getting worse . Much worse
Neil! Can’t believe it! You’re a shower gel thief! 😳😤 Yeah it’s a sad state of affairs for tourism everywhere. Italy is a like a ghost town 😢
