Thank you Heinrich, especially for the book recommendations, influencing people without direct authority over them is one of the points I am still struggling 👍🏻 would be nice to hear your thoughts on conflict management, sometimes it is not easy to manage a conflict in the business setting without stepping on someone's toe 😅

Agree, listening skills and to understand the point of view, motivation and problems of others I think is beneficial in many careers. (I'm not in consulting though).
My favorite is leading team members over who you do not have influence. Leadership is such an untaught skill set in the corporate space, but yet is so much needed. Young professionals can become such great leaders if only they are taught to be such by their leaders.
Hi Henrich! I think the ability to ask good and insightful question is also very important, both to work better and to build good conversations/professional relationships. Could you do a video about how we can better improve our ability to ask good questions? Thanks so much for the great quality content, been following this for some months and they helped me greatly!
I would love to hear tips on how to narrow down and specialize in the consulting world. I feel like if, apart from general business acumen knowledge, I also learn a lot about my fields of interest, I might advance much faster by offerring my consulting expertise in a narrowed down industry or something like that. My goal is to work in consulting for 5-10 years so I want to maximize my profits for the time being.
Hi Edijs, there is usually a trade-off here. For you, you will likely learn most if you do projects in lots of many industries and functions. For the consulting firm, it is better you specialize and build deep domain expertise. Usually at MBB, you will switch around sectors very freely in the first 2 years or so and then start to specialize. Best! Heinrich
Beautiful! This is the video that I've been waiting for since I found your channel Heinrich :)... Based on my experience I would say that resilience is probably the most important skill of them all. I noticed that showing an aptitude to quickly learn and develop one's skills as a consultant is quite appreciated by senior consultants, and this is related to being resilient I think. Thanks, and looking forward to our next coffee break ;) Best! Elyas E.
Once again I notice a lot of overlap between internal audit skill set and consulting skill set. I have most of those but definitely would need to improve my Excel and PowerPoint knowledge!
Sounds great, thanks for sharing this observation Alistair! Makes a lot of sense to me. Thanks for being such a loyal viewer of the channel :) Best, Heinrich
Very introspective video Heinrich! It was able to summarise the key skills needed very effeciently! Looking forward to your video on how we can improve our business acumen if you could please, that would be great! :)
Hi this is very good video. Thank for sharing your experience, I would very appreciate your insight if you could give me some advice how to improve "Ability to influence people" to help me better put into practice.

Hi Heinrich, I'm a CA student in India. BCG/Bain/McK here hire either from the top bschools or only Rankholders/course toppers in CA (you don't even get a shortlist otherwise). I think it's similar for most countries. Can you tell me how to get into consulting if one isn't on the top academically? I have been told to try for smaller consulting firms to start. Can you please elaborate?
Hi Naman, thanks for your comment. MBB firms are definitely selective. If your academics are not top, suggest you think about whether there are other areas in your profile that are excellent and might compensate the academic parts (e.g., impressive extracurricular experience). Of course you will have lots of opportunities in other firms as well. Best and lots of success to you! Heinrich

Top 5 skills you need to be successful as a consultant: 1. Skills not to give a shit about the mistakes you make 2. Skills not to be discouraged by all the bullshits you take from the Client 3. Skills to be stubborn even if you are not correct and you have no logic to back up 4. Skills to talk shit about your superior whenever he/she is not around 5. Skills to stay in office more than 24 hours and not to give a shit about even if you havent washed for several days
