- Sometimes when you save money you have to spend time.
that was the case with this install. I found a "compatible" alternator for my 1977 MGB on Amazon. only $58 great deal right?!?
Well it needed some adjusting, but ultimately it worked out OK.
Hey Alex! Your videos been super helpful walking me thru replacing the alternator in my 76 roadster! I just have a question on the connection point from the wire harness to the alternator. Does the brown wire with yellow stripe connect the the square terminal on the alternator, or the angled one?
All way put it under a load turn your lights on
6:35 I disagree with how you reached the conclusion that the alternator is not working. Many (older) alternators don't generate sufficient electricity when the car is running at low rpm (e.g. at idle, below 1,000 rpm). These alternators would need some 1,500 or 2,000 rpm or more to output sufficient electricity. Therefore, only looking at the battery voltage at idle is insufficient. You would also need to run the car at higher rpm and then check the battery voltage.
could be the case...
in my case I could not get the old one to produce a charge sufficient enough to restore the battery after a quick run to the store. The new one actually will begin charging while idle. and you can hear it.
the odd time when a noise in the engine bay gives me confidence I will make it home again. LOL
Hey Alex! any chance you could share the link to the amazon alternator you found?

Thanks Alex! Was having issues with my connector not matching the autozone bought alternator
Yeah, the one I got from amazon required some minor adjustments to get a good fit, but I think I covered that in the video
@@AlexPlatacis Thanks Alex the rectifier on the back actually looks like a perfect match for my connector (Narrow, Wide, Narrow) hopefully won't require much adjustment. Love the videos, All the best!
