    As someone who’s Mara PB is 10 mins quicker than yours I have an observation about your training. I personally would never even attempt that speed session at those paces, particularly in week 2, I wouldn’t hit them and if I could it’d knock me for 6 and I’d have to have 2 days off running. Where we differ is that my volume is considerably higher than yours with few days off. Most of my long runs are more about time on feet in the 8 min mile territory because I need to be good to go the next day whereas you tend to have a day off after a long run. You are long running at target pace plus 25 seconds most weeks and that has a cumulative impact on the next week, picking up niggles and illness. I will run target place plus 2 mins or more. Alot of marathon training is getting your body to the start line uninjured.

      We definitely have different approaches David... and I follow you on strava as well so do get to see a lot of your runs. I actually address some of this in this upcoming weeks video discussing my zone 2 training and why I do it... but it wont answer all these questions... a quick summary of your comment - yes my volume is less so I try to maximise my volume and put more intensity in it... yes this last london block was sh*t but the rest havent been too bad in terms of consistency, my last newport block was near enough perfect. Where I agree with you - I pick up illnesses more, I feel like due to my intensity, I expose my body to illnesses more and with 3 kids, they bring everything into the house... less intensity might fix this? And yes - more volume would be a huge + for me if I can make that happen, fingers crossed in the second half of this block when the kids are back to school and then moving forward too. We shall then see how I adapt training and fingers crossed, reap the rewards with higher volume

    Hi Andy,
    Some great ideas in there! The increase in mileage and S and C will be the main game changers!!!
    One more thing which i would recommend...cut down on the gel intake on the day. I see a lot of sub elite runners attempting 5 gels in a marathon, and that is a lot for the body and stomach to process! 2-3 max should help, but you will struggle to absorb them if you take more. A good carb load will be more important. Good luck 👍👍👍

    Suggestion for strength and posture work: Do back rows and pull ups for your upper back. I think it will give your upper body more balance and open up your chest too, since you are quite forward rounded in your chest and shoulders. Just a suggestion from another amateur 🙂

    All on point Andy. I think these revisions entirely map the challenges thrown up in the last training block. I think the positive mental talk is the clincher. Programming your mind to flex on command like any other muscle is gonna be critical to get you not just over the line, but over it in the right time.

    Would be interesting to see a different video showing your strengthen and conditioning routine as well as your stretching routine… great content as usual. Looking to order some saysky, I’m super slim and sleek 6ft tall do they come up small or bigger than expected?

      @TheFODRunner  Місяць тому +2

      I really want too, it’s about where to record it though because my house is too small and my office doesn’t have the space… so as soon as I can, I will!
      The racing kit fits the best… I’m 6ft 6in and go for L in the T-shirts / vests and it’s great! Shorts I’m an XL as in a 34 inch waist. I find the sizing to be as per other brands 🤝

      @@TheFODRunner cheers budd. I’m normally a small or x small in compression shorts like 2xu as super lean 6ft tall 70kg with a 28/29 in waist. Would a local gym allow some filming early doors ?

      @@karlbratby4349 much leaner than me! I filmed a routine once in my local gym, I got told off when someone spotted me 😂

    Hi Andy. Strength training is something i struggle to get into my week. How do you fit it in around your sessions and long run? Would you do it on the same day or on your easy/rest days?

    • @TheFODRunner
      @TheFODRunner  Місяць тому

      I do upper back and legs/hips/glutes on my hard days… if I did then on an easy day that was the day before a hard day, you fatigue the legs too much for the session. I find it’s better to keep the hard days hard and the easy days easy. I find though that I can do core any day and it doesn’t impact the next day

    I am absolutely baffled . You are running reps at 2:15 pace - why ? The marathon at your pace is purely an aerobic event 😮 All you will do is risk injury and flatter yourself. Will it help you run a steady marathon? No 😢

      Appreciate where you’re coming from here! This episode was the week before my last 5K of the summer so was just doing a workout focused more around that… since then they’ve been nowhere near as fast and much more controlled around marathon effort / half marathon effort!
