As a biracial American who is finding his roots and has Finnish ancestry through his mother your videos are helping me on my journey of self acceptance and reconnecting to those who came before me
I have been meaning to give a recommendation for a book, but never remember. Anyway "Kansanuskon yöpuoli - Hiidet, manalaiset ja muut demonit" is a very nice book for mythology and Finnish creatures. In general I recommend it for everyone who are interested on the topic, though the book is only in finnish if I'm right so that can be a small roadblock for many non-Finnish.
I'm Finnish and sometimes been shunned but Forest has always been my home. It's not suprise many Finns prefer timber homes cut from the local forest, or as local you can get.
By far my favourite of your video's so far. Possibly my most enjoyable Finnish content ever watched. I had an idea to explore the Finnish lakeland area, from Helsinki as far as Koli vai Lappeenranta and Savonlinna. Maybe even see Kupio and Jyväskylä on the return. And to get in some wilderness/woodland wanders, after only seeing Helsinki, Turku and Rauma on my first trip last year. After watching this I'm inspired to put my plan into action! Just hope I don't get eaten by bears. Any bear info would be highly appreciated....
Wow Aaron! It's been a few months since I've watched one of your videos (I've been really, really busy!) and you've improved so much! Your narration and the production values of the video are superb! Tosi hieno! Kiitos!
This channel has provided me much new information about Finnish folklore and religion even though i'm a Finn. Perhaps my family has been more removed from the ancient's beliefs than some others and therefore nobody could tell much. Although many aspects have been nevertheless implicitly present - observable to me - in many traditions and in the way people think.
I just found your channel. You are doing God's (or should I say Ukko's!) work. It is a shame that being "conscious" of Finnish history and culture is somewhat lost on most Finns (although it is understandable considering the past few hundred years of history and problems with Russia). Of course, you can still see the older ways manifest themselves in many traditions. It makes me especially happy to see someone "not born in Finland" immerse themselves in this. In my opinion, Finnish history is world history. I hope you continue enjoying living in Finland, discovering its history and culture, and also considering yourself both Finnish and Irish.
@@sb6370 I don't think it's based on any country really. There are heavy viking vibes but Finland didn't have vikings so I would really know what in Skyrim is based on Finland.
I don't think you've made a video of "the finnish air force" aka mosquitoes and how it is to live with them here in Finland. :) You must have ran into large swarms of them during summer. Usually foreigners who come to Finland can be upset about how huge numbers of mosquitoes we have here and how aggressive they can be. Trying to have a walk in the forest or trying to pee in nature can become a challenge, if not an adventure.
Great story telling. As a Finn I really can relate most of the stuff. One point though, ending of the video. Nice story etc and then sudden stop... Just saying...
Well unfortunately not here, Do not know nearly enough on that subject to even begin preparing a video, Plus I just talk about folklore and video games, Current events and news are not subjects I upload on this channel.
🤍🧝🏻♂️ Loveiatar, or Illuvatar if you read the Sillmarilion is not evil nor dual natured. One is the source, if you please .. you blessed if you anger ..you have concequence a.🧝🏻♂️🤍
Oh one does not come out of the lake but down from the skies, is just that during Finnish times, 😂the gods reincarnated without going back home and for that they used the lake. It is too much of a long tale to post on UA-cam 😊😊😊

Just an amazingly beautiful story that resonates entirely with my soul ❤ Kiitos 😅
Glad you enjoyed it!
I could never live in a city where nature and forest wasn't around me and easy to travel to and enjoy. Great video as always!

Jeesus Kristus on Herra
The first literary mention of tapio is in fact in agricolas list of finnish gods from 1551
Beautiful ❤
BTW. Music in this video by Jeremy Soule, from Skyrim soundtrack.
Some believe Skyrim is based on Finland.

Can you please make a video on a few different creatures from finish folklore
Very interesting videos, thanka for making them! Do you have any book recommendations to get broad introduction to old Finnish stuff?
Great video, thank you! There are no credits for the pictures, where did the image of the forset maiden (at approx. 37.22) come from please?
forest maiden, I mean...

Vesihiisi sihisi hississä
The cups were formed by extracting coin shaped stones to cover the eyes of the dead and preserve their souls for reencarmation 😅
Finnish special relationship with nature = pratically no real untouched forest left in the whole country.

Sisu is not that complicated. All it means is to "Never give up. Never". That's Sisu.
a lame way to put it
Cuz, it's WITCHCRAFT...Wicked WITCHCRAFT...❤❤❤❤
Just TRY and tell Äiti, you're NOT hungry.
Voi...That koira, just ain't gonna hunt.
When do we discuss the Nordic countries' capitalist greenwashing and oppression of the Sámi peoples?
