If the studs in the case are long enough to get the nuts on you don't have to. All it does is take the pressure off the push rod so you're not fighting the fuel pump return spring. If the studs are not long enough hold the pump in with one hand and bar the motor over with the other tell it drops in enough to get the nuts started.

From some other videos I was watching, they were saying I had to get the engine at top dead center (TDC) before re-installing this onto the engine. Is that correct or will it drop in without being at TDC? Thanks for the video, it helped a ton!
