I added some 10W40 to the inlet of the carb and it lubed the choke. Ran the moped around the block twice and it runs well now. I was not able to remove the 2 screws that hold the choke to the carb. Good video, I learned everything I know about auto-chokes from this video.

so does it heat the choke when you turn to the on position? should i wait to crank the scooter for 40 seconds before cranking it? in 40 degree weather. does it get warmer every second key is on? or is that only when its being cranked.

Hello, i have a Piaggio zip 50 and the engine go back to idle at around 30% open, i cleaned everything but the problem is still exist, can it be an auto-choke problem? Can i run it without it if i cover its place with something? today it started but i couldnt rev it up and its just stopped before getting warm, now still cant start it and now the fuel is leaking from somewhere on the carbuerator

Thanks for this very informative video! I have a new scooter under 400 km. It seems to run good but before starting it, I usually need to turn the throttle once and start it up. The rpm is only about 1,000 to 1,500 rpm's so I have to baby the throttle a few minutes (or it will stall out) until it starts ideling at around 2,000 to 2,500 rpm's and then it's fine. Do you think it could be the auto choke is not working?? Thank you

Check the choke for sure, also the cary may not be adjusted correctly and also you may have an air leak so check from the airbox to the manifold just to be sure. this should be done from the dealer at the workshop prior to delivery to customer so if you have an issue reach out to the selling Dealer👍

Will it work with any carb? I have a honda Dio AF18 and the E choke has a faulty connection. One of these seems like a perfect replacement, especially for cold starting. Question though? How long do you usually let the choke stay on for the manual one?

hello, i have a "small" problem. recently i gave my scooter a bit of a makeover, put a new exhaust on, rejet, new rollers and springs. but now when i use the throttle the bike takes a very long time to accelerate, like i have to rev it to above 5k rpm before it even moves a little, and acceleration is just painfully slow. i thought it might have ti do with to stiff clutch springs or something wrong with rollers. on unrelated note there has also been a rattling sound coming from the variator like a screw is loose in there or something. scooter in question is a derbi Atlantis with hiper engine. any help appreciated and cheers💪

@@R_O_B_O_M_A_NSlow acc was from me still having restrictor in the exhaust. Also changed to lighter rollers. The rattle is still there, and is coming from something loose with the kickstarter, most likely the pinion gear. Flat rollers could also be the problem. Easiest way to tell would be to remove the variator cover and start the scooter without it, that way you can see if its kick or vario issue.

Hello! I have an issue with my scooter but it only happens once every 5 rides approximately , so what happens is after about 1min of me riding it sputters and dies . Only way I managed to to start it back on is by closing off the air pipe to the filter and it revs for 5sec before dying down again. I looked basically into everything (air filter, carb, idle mixture, fuel lines , valve adjustment , fuel filter , spark plug ,changed cylinder , checked vacuum lines) only thing I noticed is the air intake hose to the carburetor having a small crack . I had the scooter sitting for abt a month in the sun could it have caused something to go bad in the CDI or this auto choke?

my Gilera DNA 180 starts immediately from fully hot or fully cold but needs a bit of throttle to start up when its hot but been off for a few mins. It fast idles cold, idles like shit for a few seconds then fast idles again gradually settling into its idle. When started from warm but not fully hot it needs little bit of throttle to start, idles rough for a couple sec, fast idles at like 2k rpm for 30 sec or so then back down to set idle.
Closed idle mixture screw causes engine to eventually die so ik pilot jet is fine and the throttle response is fantastic.
I read that these auto chokes have 'wax capsule' in them which expands with heat to push the plunger out. Can this deteriorate over time and how well protected is it against chemicals like fuel, carb cleaner/non-polar solvents etc. Like the choke obviously works but I dont think its as responsive as it once was (2ndhand unit from ebay as i need OEM) or is sticking a bit.
Also I'm actually really surprised at how much electrical shit does actually deteriorate gradually rather than it either works or it doesnt and it seems to be a big thing with 'solenoid' stuff like this.
