    Push ups are an awesome exercise beginner wise, bench press is the progression. I can do 40 perfect form push ups with a constant tempo, it gets boring doing them, I opt for the bench press because its so easy to overload it thus you build more size and strength. Its debatable at the end of the day but its important to utilize both if you want to maximize your goals.

      *why don't you do weighted push ups?*
      Push-ups are kind of awkward to externally load up on because of the position of the body...
      If normal push-ups are too easy, there are other alternatives that don't require any weights and are very effective.
      Try slowing down the reps while fully contracting your pushing muscles during the full movement...
      Do 3 slow full/slow contracted reps, followed by a 5 second pause in the bottom position (don't touch the floor, hover right above it)... then do another 3 contracted, slow reps, followed by another 5 second pause at the bottom.
      If you do this right, you won't even last 3 or 4 rounds...
      You can also try moving forward so that your pushing muscles are now more "disadvantaged" (like a planch-lean) while supporting a greater percentage of your upper body.
      You *won't* be able to get too many reps of these as well...

      @@davepazz580 I can do 40 with a 3101 tempo

    I’ve rarely seen someone with a barreled chest from pushups alone. You can do but so many push-ups, calisthenics etc... your muscles need progressive overload for growth. So imo, if you can do push-ups everyday, with maximum effort then you’re not tearing the muscle fibers for new growth. But mad respect to you gentlemen for what y’all doing. To each it’s own. Stay safe and be healthy out there

From just doing diamond pushups it grows your triceps do at least 50 of those a day and your arms will be jacked. There's so many pushup variations you can do that can target so many muscles. The problem with only doing pushups is you can only do bodyweight..at a certain point you won't get any stronger cause you can't add on more weight..Bench wins for the simple fact you can always add weight and get stronger

    • @davepazz580
      @davepazz580 4 роки тому

      At a certain point, basic push-ups have to be replaced with harder versions to increase the difficulty... and they can be made extremely difficult simply by changing the leverage of the body against gravity.
      Bench pressing does give faster strength gains up front and more directly in the early stages for sure... but they are also a double-edged sword because the basic position can really damage the rotor cuffs once you start maxing out some heavy loads on a regular basis.
      It also isolates the upper-body pressing muscles in an unnatural way...

    It just depends what you want like, if you want to get as strong as possible with your pressing movements, obviously you'll need to bench press because you can continually add weight and make progress that you can easily track. Ultimately they're just two different exercises; like B-Rock says, it's not really necessary to just pick one. Push-ups are great; there are endless variations as RipRight points out, but yeah there's no need to hate on the bench press.
    Peace.

    I do both, Push-ups and Cali's are dope but there not going to tear down the Muscle Fibers, which helps the Muscle actually grow. The heavier the load, the more stress on your bones which actually strengthens them. Who's stronger A 150lb Man doing 1000 Push-ups or a 150lb Man who benches 300lbs? Lifting is Psychological also, the confidence you get from knowing how much you can lift is incomparable.

      Calisthenics will make you buff no joke trust me I've been doing it since 2017 Its kept me lean and muscular never set foot in a gym and never use weights either but when people see me they ask if I use weights I just tell them I do calisthenics and train hard. Its a shame calisthenics is being slept on when its so effective if you want to get the body that you want.

    i prefer push up cause its compound . but i think with bench press people just want to lift heavy thinking it will get them bigger pr better chest but its only get you stronger. bench can be good if you lift moderate weight and do alot of reps and sets that will give you better definition since its more focus on your chest.

    The main reason push-ups are better is they requirer more total body muscular work/stabilization/activation. A person who can do push-ups w/ a 195 lbs. person on their back will out bench someone who just benches 195 lbs. by 50 or more lbs. easily.

    As a women this is serious inspiring. I have always loved this naturally build figure, but seriously I am finding it difficult to make progression... especially in the shoulder region! I think this is hindering me when it comes to so many calisthenic moves!! I'll keep trying, but maybe incorporating weights just to build some muscle in that region might help me progress in my body weight excersises? 🤔 Anyone got any suggestions? I have started using isometric holds too btw.

    • @Shadowserpant00
      @Shadowserpant00 4 роки тому

      understand that the weakest parts of your body have to grow strong before the rest of your body can. For your shoulders, try doing a single pike pushup. If you can't, try a pike pushup negative; get in the position for a pike pushup and lower yourself as slowly as you can. Make sure your head goes down and forward, not straight down. When addressing your weakest parts, don't go for high reps or difficult exercises. Focus on feeling your shoulders activate through an "easier" movement, a few weeks of strong shoulder activation and you should progress.

    Yeah I was purely bodyweight from '09 to '17 hen my friends got me into lifting. Deadlifts, bench, squat. Yeah i got "strong" but holy shit countless injuries ! 😂
    I had no choice but to go back to my roots during this time of quarantine and i feel soooooo much better. No more wrist or shoulder pains from the bench, no more lower back pain from conventional Deadlifts. I feel amazing I cant even crack my neck anymore like I used to 😂 and i don't wake up every morning feeling like i got hit by a truck. Lifting was fun but im not a sponsored athlete and nobody is paying me to lift heavy so im gonna stick with calisthenics 💯
    It's one hell of a way to workout and can be done wherever whenever.

      wet dog I’ve don’t workouts with body weights 21 days straight. I haven’t seen any adverse affects. You can go heavy and light. It’s nothing like weights. Pushes I believe u can do everyday like abs. As long as u are not doing 5-6 hundred reps or more. And some people get use to that many reps and can do it daily. My best friend is my body. I listen to it and know when to rest do the same and you’ll be fine. Sometimes you’re sore and after you stretch and start the workout u feel better than ever

    I have never understood why people who prefer bodyweight/ Calisthenics feel the need to compare it to weightlifting. In reality they are two different skill sets one not better or worst than the other. I do push ups and bench press. 500 push ups do not equate to a 500lb bench press and vice versa. I was always told Calisthenics are pretty, look good and can get you great shape, Weightlifting ( not bodybuilding ) is ugly, scary, and get you in great shape but the true difference between them is Calisthenics will get you strong with your body weight, weightlifting will get you strong against external weight. When it's an emergency and you have to get thru a locked door or pick something up off someone or a life and death situation what would serve you better the ability to do 500 pushups or the ability to move 500lbs on your?? Also
    and this is just my opinion when you add external weight to your body you are no longer doing Calisthenics your weight lifting. Someone laying or standing or hanging on you or a weight vest you have added weight so now your weightlifting

    • @davepazz580
      @davepazz580 4 роки тому +1

      Agreed... calisthenics and weight training are actually two entirely different endeavors designed to deliver two different sets of goals not really related to each other.
      Having said that, I think these guys are simply saying they personally enjoy doing push-ups far more than the bench press, and consider them to be better for their own needs...
      Which is what exercise choice should really come down to... what *you* enjoy doing the most and sticking to it.

    • @piccalo89
      @piccalo89 4 роки тому

      @@davepazz580 I get that. But what I don't get is the constant need to compare and declare one better than the other. I seen many Calisthenic videos where the Practitioner declares bodyweight exercise superior , better than, or more challenging than weightlifting but I have yet to see a power lifter or bodybuilder do this for weightlifting. I get its what they prefer , that goes whiteout saying.. thats a point they don't need make or justify, they have have many many videos on here of them on here doing bodyweight training and I'm sure most of the viewers know this is what they prefer to do.

    • @davepazz580
      @davepazz580 4 роки тому

      From what I've seen, a lot of that comes from the need to have a "click bait" title... they need to make a statement (sometimes controversial or confrontational about a subject) so that you'll be curious enough to watch the video.
      The reason why you see it going in one direction (videos openly declaring calisthenics “superior” over weights) way more than the other is because weights and weight training have been very much on the forefront in people's collective minds when they think of "working out" and "building muscle".
      The average guy on the street will immediately envision barbells, dumbbells, weight machines, bodybuilding, etc. when ask what are the things identifies with working out in general...
      Weights, weight machines, benches, squat racks, etc. are manufactured goods which must be commercialized to sell in some form... so if you observe fitness media, they will always feature weight training first and foremost when it comes to building muscle, getting stronger and simply getting in great shape.
      Calisthenics is improving in this area of being in the fitness media spotlight... but because there is no universal standard, high-priced "product" that's absolutely necessary to do calisthenics, it's simply not going to be pushed and glorified in the media like weights are.
      So when it’s time to highlight the benefits of calisthenics, it's definitely going to do so at the expense of what is considered to be the "establishment" form of training… which is weight training.
      I agree that they don't need any reason to justify their choice... but I guess sometimes casual viewers would be curious as to their own personal reasons for preferring calisthenics (a usual comment on these types of videos is "if you want to grow muscle, why aren't you lifting weights then?") so they have to make videos like this one.
      But thankfully, there are many other calisthenics channels that don't go in this direction at all (other than to make legitimate, respectful comparisons)...
