I'm blown away by how useful this channel is. It's informed every single game purchase I've made (and if I want more detail I can go find a Dice Tower review or something that takes as long as playing the game). Thank you!

Cheers, and thats exactly the plan. Give people enough to know if the game isnt for them, or if it is, so they can go deeper and perhaps check out a gaming rules or watch it played vid or something similar.

This game has become a fairly fast favorite of my family! Although we have made one change to keep everyone on fairly equal footing (we almost always play with 4/5 people) throughout the gameplay and shorten it both (our games could last up-to 2 whole hours), we decided to add the General Store and the Corn Field to the starter cards. That way, everyone has four cards to earn money with right away and we're not tossing those two cards out of the middle because everyone already has two landmarks built once they show up (these cards come from the Millionaire's expansion pack).

I've not played a huge number of games of Machi Koro, about 4 i think. But that's enough to know it's not one i'd want to play a lot. It's good for what it is, and would be great for a family. But I can't imagine it being too deep.
Anyone play the heck out of it?

Sounds right. My friend actually recommends taking out a bunch of cards to improve rotation

Haven't played Machi Koro but really enjoy Valeria: Card Kingdoms-and it has a solo mode! 😉

I played this game a couple of times. It never made sense to me to go for cards with numbers greater than 6 and to roll with 2 dice since it greatly reduces the likelihood of getting a number that actually helps you

The problem with Machi Koro's Deluxe Edition is time.I play with the maximum amount of players and just takes too long to finish a game for what is a Light and Fun family game. With that much cards in the mix, you can't form a real strategy. So you just buy whatever you can and hope for the best. Which in turn makes the game last far longer than it should.
I did found in the forums that propose a fix. have 3 different stacks. One 1-6, another 7-14 and the last one purple cards. You can read about it somewhere. However that was still too long for me.
I did however played just the based version and enjoyed my time a lot more. In the based version however, you just lay out all the cards and players are free to buy whatever cards they want thus making strategies viable and thus making play time lots shorter. But I soon realized there's not much variety to keep me interested beyond 1-2 plays. I can't do it inc all the expansions since I would have to lay too many cards out. Picking and choosing cards to lay out feels like too much work. So.... idk, it is what it is. I have fun playing it but i do have big problems with it.

I can see that. Our group plays games pretty quickly, so it didn't seem to drag. The big issue was card stacks no one wanted to buy clogging up the market. So the game owner removed a bunch of cards, so we only play with about tow thirds of them
The basic game just seems to easy to min/max after a few plays

@2:00 You said green and red cards work during other players turns. Did you mean blue and red, or did I miss something? Just trying to clear things up. Love the channel, I've gotten several new board games thanks to your videos, like Castles of Mad King Ludwig.

No, you are right. I get it correct earlier in the vid, and then wrong there

Added a correction card that should pop up. Cheers Richard.

Question about one of the rules: when it says there is an activation order: red, blue, then purple, does that mean you can use all those colors for one roll, just in that order? Or does it mean you activate red the first time you get that number, then in a different turn, if you roll that same number you can then use blue next, ect?

This game is always 1hr +. The red cards are always the downfall and players who have money 1st, will always win. I don't bring it out anymore.

I could see that happening pretty easily. Adopting a negative strategy would bloat the playtime a lot.
