I was 12 years old and loved this music so much that I taught myself how to connect the sound from the VCR onto a cassette player so I could record it onto a cassette. I then listened to it every morning while making my bed. It was my routine for well over a year, and that's a long time when you're 12 years old.
The movie that inspired me and still inspires me to get out on the pond as much as I can. I was 12 or 13 when this movie came out and all we wanted to do was play pond hockey and just skate - "never wanting to come in." Best feeling on earth.
I remember watching this movie the summer before my freshman year of high school. I wanted to be Dean Youngblood in a school and town that didn't even know who Wayne Gretzky was. 😆 I became an instant hockey fan, especially Pittsburgh penguins fan. I was obsessed
Better believe it. I grew up playing hockey and would watch this almost every day when I wasn’t playing ice or street hockey in the late 80’s early 90’s was obsessing over it with this movie.
never played hocky in my life. but another great feeling 80s movie. and those old synths kill todays pro tools BS synth loops sounds. you could feel them like a grand piano
Mike, Just now seeing your comment from 4 years ago. I have been playing piano and keyboards since about 1980, when i had about 6 months of lessons on an old organ. I never really did learn how to read music, but always loved playing and working out song arrangements regardless. I like Journey, REO, Styx, Van Halen, Rush, Beatles, Ozzy, Stones, Peter Gabriel, Genesis, etc. I agree, those monster boards of the late 70s through the mid to late 80s are really something. While I do have some fairly high end Yamaha Boards, I could never afford the older Korg, Moog, and Oberheim OB-X which was used by Eddie Van Halen. I once had the opportunity to play an OB-Xa and played Jump, Dreams, Love Walks In, and I'll Wait on that monster. Those boards were far out of my price range in the 1980s when I was in my teenage years. Still some great times to be sure. Growing up in the 1970s and 80s was a time the kids today can never live. The technology, playing baseball and hockey in winter on farm pond, football games, and the BMX bikes, and everybody hanging out together and going to the roller rink and Battle of the bands and video arcades, listening to Old Journey and Rush 2112 full 33 record on a Fisher Stereo with Pioneer Amp and JBL speakers, the kids today will never have what we had back then. Hell, seems like no one even goes out anymore. Anyway, sorry for the super long response. I am just enjoying a few minutes of talking about the good ol days. Take it easy. All the best. Custos
I absolutely BEGGED my parents for CCM skates after watching this. I figured I'd work my way up through juniors and get picked up by the Rangers. Instead, I got a used pair of Bauer Turbos, my brother's beat up, wrong handed Koho and a pair of gloves that went missing after two weeks. The Rangers never even gave me a sniff and I ended up playing soccer. I wouldn't trade those memories for anything.
Bauer turbos were the first skates I got in 1988, and I realized after I got my next pair (CCM tacks) that turbos were just roller blades without wheels.
80s youngblood was a decent hockey film as i was obsessed with this the mighty ducks and slap shot as i played alot of street hockey as a kid and would go watch my local team the Fife flyers but there crap now lol Still love my hockey wish i stuck at it
In that specific scene it's Peter Markle - the writer/director. He used to play pro hockey in the NHL. Rob Lowe did actually learn to skate for this film, but he's doubled by other skaters for nearly all the competitive scenes, except where you can see his face. Both Swayze and Keanu Reeves (who played hockey IRL) could skate prior to the shooting the film, and Swayze trained as a figure skater, but had never played hockey.
One amazing thing about the 80s is that the movies made you want to be whatever it was they featured, the music was inspirational, melodic, required talent to produce and rap music was not that popular in mainstream. The only thing missing from rap is the ‘c’ in front of it.
I mean the movie in HD to watch it. Would love to see it again. Best would be with extra's bonus stuff. Yes William Orbit released an album with tracks used in this film it's beatifull... it's called William Orbit - Strange Cargo It's on Itunes
Question: Was Rob Lowe really doing those drills on ice or was it his stunt double? From some angles it seems to really be him doing those hockey tricks.
I read in an article. All the extras in the film played in the OHL. Lowe’s stunt double for the movie and in this scene was a 16 year old kid named Randy (forget the last name). If you google it - you’ll see a pic of him and Lowe together. The resemblance is fair. Being a former hockey player myself, the stunt double must have been a decent prospect at that time because he can really handle the puck.

Great story. Thanks for sharing
Hell yeah, I did the same with my favorite movies such as Youngblood, Beat Street, Bloodsport, BMX Bandits...
YES!!!!! Bring back the 80's!

80's rule! R.I.P. Patrick Swayze....you will always be missed 🙏
Legend says Dean Youngblood was so good at hockey as a kid that he switched from playing left-handed to right-handed to even up the odds!!!🤣
Ok so I'm not the only one who noticed!😂
@@edradil3438 *& u don't even mention that was after his head injury & hockey career 🤣
So did Adam Banks! Lol
Oh cmon… and I thought this was a true story… ruined all that I once believed in.

@@cygnusx10 cool info man.I knew it was a advanced skater
They used pro hockey players like Peter Zezel and Paul Cavallini and other real junior players for the stunts

For every music there is an audience. In our opinion rap is definitely not crap. How can you not like the messsage for example..
There is a lot of good rap out there man.
Love to see the movie
Hey it's Sodapop Curtis

Keanu Reeves
Alias Johnny silverhand / néo / constantine
R.I.P. "Sonja" Nesterenko
When movies were actually movies...
This reminds me of when I started figure skating oh my gosh😂
Everyone from the era knows the standard 80s beat. Lol. The drums.
Courtesy of Mr William Orbit.
It always bothered me a little how Dean as a kid holds his stick on the left, but the rest of the movie he's a rightie.
Didn’t William Orbit do the score.
Yes he did!
Yep. The Secret Garden is played in this film as well.
The best hockey film you never saw
They need to Zam the ice. I have anxiety.
Tube flood.
Question: Was Rob Lowe really doing those drills on ice or was it his stunt double? From some angles it seems to really be him doing those hockey tricks.
I believe it was the late Great Peter Zezel that did some of the skating and puck handling for Rob Lowe in Youngblood.
It was actually the director Peter markle who was an ex pro hockey player doing this sequence
I read in an article. All the extras in the film played in the OHL. It was a kid named randy walker and another named Scott McPherson who where rob Lowe’s stunt double
Sounds like the same guy that did Fright Night
48 Hours & Commando from James Horner for me
0.13 badass 😂😂
⚡️
A Lefty as a kid and now a Righty....
That's how it used to be done.
the kid on 8mm film shoots left but Rob Lowe in the film shoots right wtf
Legend says he was just that good of hockey player!!!🤣🤣🤣
Movie loaded w mistakes. Anyone notice the young Youngblood shot lefty and The adult Youngblood was a righty?
