I have had not had the opportunity to work with this particular scale in this format, but what fun! It's like giving your ears little bits of candy to listen to! Enjoy! I certainly did!
Starts low, higher voices can start up an octave and then switch to unison when the piano gets into a more appropriate range. Lower voices, drop down an octave when it gets too high!
I'd recommend starting the pattern with the lip trill to get comfortable with it, then moving on to single vowels and ultimately on to vowel combinations.
I've been visiting this one everyday before recording my daily freestyles, I slowed it down to 0.75 speed and did lip trills the whole way through. Helped me to focus what notes to sing and learn the patterns more. Thanks again Jeff!
Wow Wow Wow - I loved that, exotic scales are so much fun. I hope you have more.
Very fun to sing the phrygian scale! I am spanish it is kind of similar to some spanish style .❤
My favourite music genre is flamenco and I'm looking to learn to sing it, so this warmup is very helpful for me!
Thanks!
You're welcome! Thank you so much for your kind and generous contribution! I really appreciate it!

Jeff
love this - two birds with one stone in a warmup. Would you consider doing any other modes? Particularly the trickier ones like locrian

Thanks, Jeff! Finally got back to speedy internet! This warm up is really useful for our singing in church!
You're welcome Heidi! Good to hear from you again! I hope all is well!
Best,
Jeff
+Jeff Rolka , thanks, missed your live Q & A 's due to bad internet, ready to get back to some serious practice!
This is funny because I also play sometimes Flamenco guitar and somehow I automatically can sing these scales.
I don't have to think it the sound of the scale comes out at once.
Some scales are more natural for me and this is one of them. I also like Lydian scale (Zappa used it quite a lot). Like Zappa's music.
But afterall we want to sing all scales. Some Indian's scales or microtonal scales are hard for us Western peoples to sing ).
Yes I like variety and keep on.
Will do! Thanks for writing in and thanks for watching!
Jeff
i've done this many times and it's still a workout haha
okay LOVE this one... 0.0
Hi Jeff! More warm ups with the harmonic minor scale or some of it's different modes (this very spanish Phrygian A.K.A major Phrygian but also Dorian#4, Lydian#2, Augmented Ionian...) would be great for vocalists' ear training especially if the phrases insist on the augmented second interval that scale provides. 🙂
Will do! More of these are long overdue! Thank you!
This is a lovely tune to sing, thank you again Jeff!
This is a lovely scale to sing to. Many thanks :-)
I would love to sing flamenco. But is it possible to develop your voice or gain notes in your vocal chords?
I did a diagram so I could get all the changes. At first it appeared too fast. But after 3 days practice it's starting appear slower! Also doing 2 of Jeff's other videos helped.
Very good video
beautiful
My first time trying this was an absolute fail. I could do the descending notes, but the ascending notes were really rough. However, I shall continue to practice. Thanks.
Buddy, mine was too. I've been doing it 5 times a week for 6 months and now I'm solid. You will be too

I didn't know this mode, it's very beautiful! Could you play vocalises in the other modes too? Love your channel, your work is amazing. God bless you always, and I wish you have more and more people learning with you.
Hugs, Danielle
Thank you Danielle! I'd be happy to do other modes, what are you thinking of? Anything specific?
All the best!
Jeff
Thanks for answer my message!
It would be nice to know the other modes, in a scale like that you showed us, transforming a scale in vocal exercise. This last video is amazing for voice training.
Best, Danielle
You're welcome! Sure, I can do some videos on more modes. In the meantime, the scale playlist has a few you can explore:
