  • 2007 Suzuki Burgman 400 Review -
    I recently bought this burgman 400. It is a great bike / scooter. This one has a Givi windscreen, rear rack, and wind deflectors that keep wind off your legs. The storage is amazing and that is one main reason why I got it.
    I do not like how the wind kind of moves it around a bit on the freeway. Also I am more used to a motorcycle / sport bike seating stance so I am still getting used to the comfort of the Burgman.

    I purchased my 2007 Burgman brand new in the Autumn of '06, and I still ride it today. Since then, I've put on nearly 30,000 miles. It still rides like new. I've babied it in an air conditioned garage most of its life, and never beat on it on the road. Riding it gently, I get close to 70 miles per gallon. The only issue I've ever had is the carbon fiber spacer between the engine exhaust and the tail pipe. After two years, it disintigrated from the heat. All that caused was more exhaust noise from the middle of the pipes, and it wasn't a pleasant sound. I replaced it twice. Both times it disitigrated. Finally, I fashioned one from a rolled up strip of stainless steel. I installed that one in 2011. It's still working flawlessly today, keeping the original sound out the end of the tail pipe. In 2017, I replaced the drive belt. Not because it failed, but I just figured it might some day. I'm a few years from 70, and always thought I'd give up cycling at that age. But with this scooter being so easy to maintain and ride, I wonder if I will.

    if you've never been on a burgman, you can't possibly imagine how much fun they are, they are quick and nimble, comfortable, with huge storage compartments. but the awesome thing is that with this cvt transmission it's just twist and go fast, and the absolute greatest thing about this bike is that there is no heat boiling up from the engine so you don't ever sit at the traffic light and roast like all other two wheel vehicles, and that makes a huge difference, which translates into more enjoyable time on the bike

    Dude, that thing looks good from the front. I just demoed the 2014, and they are pretty fast in the city. Coming from someone who's owned dirt bikes, cruisers and sports bike, the scooter is by far the most comfortable and practical.

    I haven't ridden the 400 but I own a Suzuki Burgman 650 Executive AN of about the same age. It is a machine that is at home in the city zipping in and out of the traffic and lane splitting (if that is legal where you live) and just as much at home on the open road or the backroads. It can keep up with the sports bikes, the tourers and the cruisers with ease. The fuel tank holds 14 litres which is good for about 200kms before the gauge starts blinking for a fill up. There is plenty of storage in the dash/fairing area as well as under the seat. If your budget stretches to it add a top box. The 650 comes with ABS, two discs up front and one on the back so stopping is easy. There is a parking brake for when the bike is on the stand. The CVT is responsive in auto mode but can be operated in manual mode for those who like to fiddle with the buttons. There is also a power booster for the auto mode for extra grunt when over taking. The electrically adjustable screen keeps the wind off at high speed but allows for some extra air flow at low speed. The mirrors fold in to avoid damage when parked - this is by a button on the left switch gear, These are touring scooters so expect to use them on the open road. I hope there have been some improvements since I bought mine. I would recommend cruise control because it would make a day touring much better. Softer grips for the same reason. Adding a music system so you could Bluetooth your phone for music through speakers would be ideal. Forget the scooter/bike thing just ride what you like because it is the ride that is important not how fast you get there or the time it takes to get there.

    I don’t know of anyone who have ridden traditional bikes then picked up a Maxi in particular the Burgman, who couldn’t adjust to it. The Burgman’s 200cc and up are great commuters. They’re also great for two up. The fact this guy ultimately sold the Burgman is an indication he had personal issues. The 150cc scooters/Maxi’s are essentially motorcycles, they’re classified as motorcycles.

      While I agree with most of your comment, I'm going to guess personal "issues" had nothing to do with him selling the Burgman.

      Agree about the 200 cc Burgman. Overall all maxis are enough even for those coming from larger displacement engines. Just it takes a bit more time to adjust, that is all. :) Drop by mate, you may like my content. :) Thanks.

    My 650 has a 55 liter under the seat storage. With my 46 liter top box, I have 101 liters of storage space. The 650 has more storage than any other scooter. It's also much faster and can hold interstate speeds all day long. The 650 is also the most popular scoot in my club of 86 members.

    The Burgman is the 1st scooter I've owned. Completely different to my other bikes. Good points. Storage. Quality. Quite nippy. Reliable. Auto transmission works well. Weather protection. Comfortable and low centre of gravity. No chain to lub and adjust Bad points. With A motorcycle you feel part of it. A scooter you feel on top of it. Suspension harsh. Centrifugal clutch takes a while to engage. So be careful accelerating away from traffic lights. Not so stabil as a motor cycle but for what it is it handle well. . I actually like riding the burgam. It's querky with a bit of character. ,It's not only a commuter bike but would make a good tourer if you don't mind taking it easy

    I owned a 2004 Suzuki Burgman 400 a number of years ago. Liked it but sold it. I now own a 2011 Burgman 650 Executive. I like the additional power and it appears to handle the wind a little better with it's 615lbs of weight. I don't use it for work, just recreation. It's very fast and can out perform most cars and Harleys from a stop. Can't perform like a sport bike, but can hold it's own.. Comfort/Storage cannot be beat...

    you have to be ready in your biking life..for a scooter/maxi.whatever.... i dont rush anymore im 55 yrs old... and the maxi scoot very good for leisure riding and taking passenger.. im sure the 400 is better than 56mpg a lot better.... i had a 400 piaggio.. didnt handle great but economical etc.. went back to normal bikes ..they are ok.... but i have just bought a 200 burgman.... nice little bike..lts not big..but its not small... its not slow..but its not fast... a real middling bike great for commuting... but its given me appetite for 400 burgman... what i love about maxi scoot you are NOT in the garage filling up every other day.... and the calm air pocket behind the screen/fairing...bloody nice

    i've had mine for about 2 years from new, low mileage as i am a fair weather rider. i feel as you get older you become a 'fair weather rider' i am over 70 now and am not an 'aggressive' biker.
    i love the comfort plus the access to high speed when necessary.

    I think it is awesome looking! AND I think to ride that comfortably with two people on in it is awesome. Thank you for sharing and I can't wait to buy one. As you know it is a different lifestyle than a CBR 1000, lol, but I like the laid-back-ness of it. 57 mpg isn't that bad at all to drive anywhere with your wife. Even in a coupe it's like 30-40 mpg plus I really like the design of it. I think you made a great investment. My only question is, Does Suzuki make the Burgman with cruise control?

    Nice video Tito, I have ridden Cruiser (Honda Shadows, Yamaha V-Star) and Sport Touring (Yamaha FJR 1300) type motorcycles in the past. I am looking for a bike for weekend leisure riding, and want something that I can sit upright (not like a super sport where you are leaned forward), I was looking at the Ninja 650. Do you have any suggestions? Thanks

    Well, you're the second guy to give a review of this and gain lots of favorability from them. The last reviewer agree with you 100%. I would be completely sold on with the exception of one thing: it doesn't have a kick start. This would be way too big n heavy to push if it doesn't start.

    Is the storage similar to the 400 Majesty? The 500 Majesty took all the storage from under the seat, which is a deal breaker for me.

  • @filoIII

  • @burggie4
    @burggie4 9 років тому +1

    Well, I guess I'll put in my two cents worth--I used to own one--put about 19,000 miles on it over a 7 year period. There were two things I HATED about this machine--the takeoff from a dead stop was terrible--it involves a LOT of clutch slipping. It's kind of like trying to start a conventional motorcycle in 2nd or 3rd gear. The other was the sound of the engine when it was under a pull--it sounds like severe detonation or knocking. I asked the dealer about it several times and was told repeatedly it was normal--I never got used to this and bothered me the entire time I owned it. I also felt it was under powered in relation to its weight. But man that storage under the seat was handy- I traded it in for a Honda CTX700 and man do I miss that storage. Oh well, just my opinion

    • @ebay111978
      @ebay111978  9 років тому

      I agree on the under power for weight. The 650 has a much better power/weight ratio.

      Depends on where you plan to ride. If you plan on doing freeways, the burgman 400 is a solid choice. If you plan on touring go for the 650. For local streets there are plenty of choices. Anything with a 125cc would be good.

    I've had several 400cc scooters to include the 07 & 09 Burgman 400 and an 07 Yamaha majesty. What I've noticed across the board with all three of them is that although they will get to 70 and sometimes a little over. It's not something you'd want to do for an extended period. I have had the 07 burgman to 78 while passing but it wasn't stable at that speed and wasn't much if any throttle left. The 09 and the majesty aren't any better as far as top end, they all seem to like to hover around the 60MPH range, as for touring I wouldn't say that you could run from say NC to MD at 70 before having problems. The scoots are great around town, but as far as what I've experienced although they do have highway capability I would say that you wouldn't want to go on a major interstate with a 70MPH speed limit for very long
