I picked up an OX stomp based on your recommendation. Only tried it with synergy modules so far, but sounds great. Thanks for that!

Great video! I actually pulled the trigger on a Nitro about 20 minutes before you uploaded this. Let me say, after hearing you play it, I am sufficiently hyped about it!

That's awesome man! I'm kinda curious how the newer versions of that amp sound vs the originals. Mine doesn't have the FX loop volume control so back in the day, us and the Quickrod owners would stick volume pedals in the loop to act as a poor man's master volume to tame these things and it worked surprisingly well.
I think the one thing I really wish the amp had is a gain control for OD2. There are mods out there to do this but I feel like that should have been a standard feature of the amp. That's really the only fault I have with it.

@@FastRedPonyCar I actually bought a volume pedal for that same reason - I have an '08 QR without the loop volume and the master was just wayyyy too touchy... for all I know I probably saw it one of your old videos, same reason I bought a Jet City haha. That '08 amp is really dark too, compared to both earlier and later ones I've played. I'd really like to try out the latest/greatest QR with the B+ and Mids switches someday.
The incoming Nitro is a used 2015 model, and last week I picked up an early no-gears 2005 Promod (also KT88's). Really interested to compare the two and see what changed in the "heavier" version of the Splawn amps after 10 years. I also wonder if the early Nitros were darker, like the way QR's went through that phase 2007-2011 where they were more middy/not as bright. Really I guess I should call Scott Splawn up and bend his ear for 20 minutes or so haha.

@@totallyradguitars959Mine is pretty dark. Treble and Presence nearly all the way up all the time. I prefer it on OD1 with a boost vs OD2. OD2 is a bit too fat for how I like it.
The nitro’s low end is wild though and can be a liability on stage. An EQ in the loop helps a LOT.

Nice one! Are we hearing the direct signal or room sound of studio monitors? My Quickrod gets me there quickly too. Much love for the Splawns. 🤘🤘🤘

I want to try a Nitro bad. I was told they don't cut well live if you are in a two guitar band. I also would not want too much low end in a band setting.
Interesting you only like one channel or mode. Curious to check it out. Thanks Pony, good stuff.

No quite the opposite. The Nitro will easily erase any other amp on stage. Doesn't matter how much wattage it has, the nitro with a good cabinet is the loudest/clearest/hardest hitting amp I've ever plugged into. This includes modded JCM800's, 100w SLO, Modded Uberschall, Plexi Superlead, etc. It's actually ridiculous but an EQ pedal in the loop or using a multi-fx unit in the loop that has an EQ can easily tame the low end.

@@FastRedPonyCar Thanks man. I have much respect for your playing and gear videos. I was watching Kyle on his channel, who I really like, talk about how the Nitro would be best for a one guitar band and the Quick rod best for a rwoguitar band thinking the Nitro would mostly just cover the low end but get eaten up by a more mid heavy amp. But I don't know if he was just surmising without the experience like you.
I'm thinking of getting a Quick rod, Nitro or Bogner Ecstacy and I know you said your XTC was a bit too polite and got eaten up. Supposedly the Nitro is easier to play than the stiffer Quickrod. Wish I could play them all. I might get frustrated having to always find creative ways to cut out the low end. I've had bassists get frustrated with my Dual Rec and Mark V in the past, so I can't imagine the Nitro.

      @@Bognerman14 Hmmmm…which speaker cab/speakers do you have?
I ask because the nitro is extremely picky about its cabinet and speakers. Part of it is simply needing a cabinet with the right amount of resonance to articulate all that low end, but on the other hand, really stiff cabinets like Mesa cabs will sound extremely dry and one dimensional.
The nitro is not a very saturated amp gain. It kind of reminds me a little bit of the Mesa Badlander I tried out on the channel but the Badlander just doesn’t punch anywhere in the sound like the nitro but is more forgiving with the low end. I honestly prefer to have too much of all of that and just dial it out rather than trying to produce it when it’s not there to begin with.
Edit: have you tried a Marshall DSL 100? It’s kinda like a Nitro dialed back to about 8 instead of 11.

@@FastRedPonyCar I have tried a DSL and TSL in the past but it's been a while. My buddy had a DSL for my last metal project and he actually sounded great.
I was using a modified Dual Rec and Archon at the time.
I agree. I like having the extra bass that I can dial out. My DR has tons of lows but with the right boost, I can sculpt what I want.
I have other amps too and settled on several 412 and 212 cabs.
My goto speaker combo is Mesa V30 and Redback. I also have some Creambacks laying around.
