      Is this better than JP2C?

    • @FastRedPonyCar
      @FastRedPonyCar  10 днів тому

      @@realtruenorth It depends. My buddy Raf has owned both and has some comparison videos of the two but said it's honestly a coin toss. He ended up getting another JP2 saying he prefers it for the more aggressive metal stuff.
      I've never plugged into the JP2 but plan on getting a demo unit from zzounds in the near future. Just based on the features though, I'd say that if you want that second EQ slider section for your crunch channel and/or you want more control over MIDI functions, the JP2 may be the better choice. The VII has the built in reactive load and cab clone IR stuff though which I value a lot more for my specific use case.

      I did the 6 payment thing with Zzounds and grabbed a blemish model for a discount. Ended up being about what they go for on reverb but brand new with a warranty and the 6 payment no interest and no credit sign up is clutch. I've used their payment plan several times in the past.

    Mesa Mark’s have that AM radio sound,but in a good way..I bought a IIC+ back in the mid 80’s..I kept it for years,but in the 2000’s I traded it for an Ibanez Destroyer and Line 6 Rack POD,Lol!!..they weren’t going for crazy money back then…Now,I use the Synergy IICP..it sounds just like my old one,it does that thing..

    • @FastRedPonyCar

      Yeah there is a very distinct voice to the midrange it’s a huge benefit on stage. All the marks I’ve gigged with have sat so effortlessly on stage and can cut through like a chainsaw.
      The more I’ve played with the mark VII mode, the more that one stands out as an exception to this voicing. It’s a smoother and deeper sounding voice and that punchy and focused 1K ish midrange is not really there.

    • @scottpeters4401
      @scottpeters4401 8 днів тому

      @ that amp sounds really good..I have never heard or paid much attention to the Mark7…I actually really liked the IIB mode,it’s got that Brad Gillis Speak of the Devil tone…other than the lower power section,does the Mark 35 sound as good as this?…I don’t care about the power,I have a Fryette PS100,so I could make it as loud as I want..I like that squawky mid thing that the Marks have..it’s not the upper mid Klank of a Marshall,it’s more vocal…

    Master at 11PM, hope that cab was in a different room. Any thing past 9pm on my baby V 25w needs earplugs.
    Also sounds killer!

      I have the cab in the closet behind me with sound panels. Works well enough that I can run amps as loud as I want without disturbing my neighbors. Shakes the room and the master bedroom directly upstairs but the neighbors can't hear it.

    I used a Boogie Studio Pre/Simul 2: Ninety for 25+ years - sounded GREAT!

    • @FastRedPonyCar
      @FastRedPonyCar  11 днів тому

      My first pre, I paired with a TC G major and a carvin T100 tube amp. The T100 was an older non chrome plate version with EL34's and had a lot more tube character than their TS100. Sounded SO good. Was literally Images and Words in a rack.
      I sold it all to buy the Nitro. Bitter sweet but I don't totally regret the decision.
      My second studio preamp was actually a sealed factory new old stock unit that had never been opened or played. It was like a time capsule untouched since december of 1989. I paid about $600 for it and had a guy on reverb offer me $2500 so I took it. Sounded really good with the Fryette power station. I've got videos of that.

      @@FastRedPonyCar- Yea! Studio Pre is great, especially paired with the Simul 2: Ninety! The guy that bought my Boogie stuff has a Power Station that sounds great! He also has a TC 2290 rack unit, which sounds amazing! Unfortunately, he moved his family from MN to Kentucky. Great family!

      @@mikeoxley4458 Fryette's are better than 2:90. The 2:90 is cool for its half drive , modern, and simulclass features, but I got rid of mine because the fryette was honestly just as good and had this amazing midrange snarl and bark much like what you would get out of mesa heads.

    • @mikeoxley4458
      @mikeoxley4458 3 дні тому

      @@SHREDTILLDEAD- ok, thanks for sharing your opinion. Bob Bradshaw recommended the 2:90 to me at the NAMM Show. There was no Fryette then, but VHT, which I considered. I had started with a Peavey 50/50, but it was crap. The 2:90 served me well for 25 years, and I always got great compliments on my tone.

      That Mesa has a lot of versatility! Also love the onboard EQ. I bought a Hughes & Kettner Grandmiester Deluxe 40 watt tube amp about 4 years ago. I had researched for quite awhile and I really liked the versatility the amp has and many of the sounds I was hearing other players getting from it. It is 40/20/5/1 watts (built in power soak) amp with 4 channels. It has built in RedBox IRs, also has midi foot switch (purchased separately) and has onboard digital effects with delay, chorus, flanger, reverb. You can save up to 128 preset settings. There is also an app for this amp so you can use a phone or an iPad to change the settings. The feel this amp is pretty amazing. You can dial it in to get just the right amount of feedback. I like how you can go from beautiful cleans to a fire breathing high gain monster. My only critique of the amp is that there is a definite learning curve in getting sounds dialed in. The only pedal I use is an EQ. This amp was about $1500 +$220 (midi footswitch) when I bought it new. I mainly play a PRS CE 24 Dusty Waring Hardtail guitar. I love the amp. I definitely got my money's worth on it. Very happy with it.

      After playing my 86-87 Kramer American Pacer through a Mesa Boogie Mark amp (do not recall the model) back in the latter 80s, it became my dream amp. A decade ago, in 2014, I found a Mark III purple stripe for $749 at Guitar Center and been in love since I bought it. Due to a soon to be move abroad I sent the amp to Mesa in Petaluma to fix a broken pot, looked over, and replace anything else that needed it. Fortunately Michael Bendinelli found only a couple of parts that needed changing and the work did not cost me an arm & a leg.

      I'm patiently waiting for the reviews from guys on the mesa forum who own an original or have experience with the originals. I'm hoping to get my hands on one to review eventually but the short supply and high demand doesn't give me hope of getting one soon. My channel doesn't have the subs and exposure yet. I doubt mesa marketing know I even exist LOL

    I absolutely loved my Mark V 90w! I'd gun the presence and treble and put a Wampler Tumnus in front to smooth it out on the Mark IV mode.
    Sadly I sold it the moment Gibson bought out Mesa because of the insanity under the hood. I just don't trust Gibson to service that thing come 20 years down the line.

      @FastRedPonyCar  11 днів тому +1

      Understandable. I think for now, it's business as usual with Mesa building/repairing but the marketing has felt a bit different and I'm 100% convinced we wouldn't have seen the IIC reissue if Randall were still running the show.
