But the original maker of video doesn't even listen to heavy music. Brobably a bit difficult to make any top list. Everyone has their own taste in music and personally I would only pick Ensiferum and Children of Bodom from that list. matter of taste
I highly recommend checking some Nightwish songs where Floor is singing. Tarja Turunen is the original singer who was great with hitting the high notes. Then came Anette who’s voice is better fit for pop-music. Now the singer is Floor Jansen who is on another level 🤘🏼🤘🏼
Children of Bodom is my all time favorite band, I love Lordi and Nightwish a lot too. Wintersun is an awesome band that should've been mentioned in the list, be prepared for +10 minute epic songs though. If you like 80's glam metal, the first two Santa Cruz albums are pretty great. If you like thrash metal, the first three Lost Society albums are a good start. Sinergy is an awesome band as well (don't know if it counts as a finnish band but since most of the guys are from Finland, I'm counting it as one. It was formed by Alexi Laiho (the ex-frontman of Children of Bodom RIP) and his ex-wife Kimberly Goss (I'm pretty sure she played in Dimmu Borgir at one point). Sinergy is basically power metal. Marco Hietala played bass for them before joining Nightwish. The other guitarist is Roope Latvala who played in Children of Bodom from 2004 to 2015 and is the guitarist of the legendary thrash metal band Stone.
You should definitely check out a Children of Bodom track. They, along with Nightwish of course, are probably the best known Finnish metal band outside of Finland, and for a good reason
I gotta chip in with on how Battle Beast isn't listed. If you are looking for additionals from comments to follow up on, Battle Beast should be in. For example, their song Eye of the Storm.
Here is few suggestions: Nightwish - devil and the deep dark ocean (live with Floor in vocals) Amorphis - the bee official lyricvideo Korpiklaani - Leväluhta officcial musicvideo (bit reggae there) and kuin korpi nukkuva (hint of tango)
If you found Ensiferum interesting, you should also check out Wintersun. Maybe Moonsorrow too. If I remember correct and you were into fantasy and mythology stuff, you should find songs you like among Amorphis' songs. Looking into Kalevala first helps when diving into their songs. Some other bands of that nature include Dreamtale, Battlelore, Kivimetsän Druidi, Amberian Dawn and Dark Sarah. Korpiklaani and Jonne have also Finnish mythology and folklore inspired songs, although they are also liked for their drinking songs. And then there's this less popular folk metal band called Auringon Hauta, which is practically toe-tapping Finnish folk music.
I can proudly say I knew every single band and had listened to at least some songs and in many cases entire albums :) Greetings brothers and sisters across the Baltic from Umeå
I think this was quite comprehensive list of Finnish metal but one genre I think was missing and it is "warrior/hero metal" and one example of it was quite popular band back in the days called Teräsbetoni ("Steel reinforced concrete"). I let others decide if it is metal or not. Great video thanks.
I really recommend you to check Ensiferum. Easily one of my favourite bands. If you like Ensiferum, then you should try Wintersun also. Just make sure you have atleast 30 minutes for one song
Finnish metal is mostly all about power metal, folk metal, neoclassical metal and death metal, and usually combining these genres of metal to make awesome variants of subgenres and bands such as Nightwish (power, neoclassical, folk), Children Of Bodom (death, power, neoclassical) and Amorphis (death, progressive, folk). There are of couse every genre and many subgenres of subgenres of metal in Finland, but the most successful recipe for Finnish metal focuses on these types of metal, and unlike typical metal bands, the most popular Finnish metal bands often have a keyboard player.
as a finnish man its story people never believe, I was watching when president at the time, Tarja Halonen gave Lordi "key of the city" it really was just some award they got but I think that memory hearing them play after getting it might partly be why I like metal, peak core memory of my childhood
Finland is famously known for its metal music, and the country has earned the nickname "the land of metal" or "the promised land of heavy metal." It's difficult to determine an exact number, but it is estimated that there are several hundred, possibly over a thousand active metal bands in Finland. This includes various subgenres of metal, such as heavy metal, death metal, black metal, power metal, and many others. The number can vary depending on whether you count only active bands, local bands, or also those that have recorded or performed internationally. Finnish metal bands are renowned worldwide, and many have achieved significant international success.
You should definately listen sonata arctica. The lead singer Tony Kakko is under appreciated. I would suggest Last drop falls or full moon because they are easy to listen and have story telling lyrics. I also love JP Leppäluoto. Who has very deep and sexy sound. For JP I would try Charon -colder or Dark Sarah Dance with dragon
Sure theese are some of the biggest bands in Finland but dude someone needs to make a proper heavy metal list for you hehe. Like more about black metal, death metal, and death core etc. :)
@@xyuxyuxyus5510it's because it was done by a person who does not listen to metal. It was quite obvious when he started his list with Lordi. No metalhead would do that, because Lordi sucks. Another red flag was the argument about Children of Bodom being either extreme metal or melodeath. Apparently, no understanding that extreme metal is not a subgenre, rather a collective term for subgenres that are on the heavier side, thrash metal and beyond (mainly black, death, doom). Personally, I don't even consider CoB a melodeath, apart from their earlier stuff, it's just power metal with harsh vocals.
Main metal subgenres to give some insight to people unfamiliar with the genre: Heavy Metal = "Original" subgenre, started in the 1960s, mid-tempo, typically clean male vocals, heavy guitar riffs, guitar solos, basically like Hard Rock but louder, heavier, and with more attitude. Example bands: Black Sabbath, Judas Priest, Iron Maiden Power metal = genre that originated in the 80s, typical marks are clean vocals, usually high-pitched, very melodic music, lots of guitar solos, lots of synths, similar to Heavy Metal but with faster tempo and more progressive songwriting and heroic themes. Example bands: Stratovarius, Sonata Arctica, Avantasia, Powerwolf Symphonic metal = genre that originated in the 90s, can basically be any subgenre of metal but with heavy use of orchestrations, though most commonly tends to be Gothic metal or Power metal. Example bands: Nightwish, Rhapsody of Fire, Epica, Amberian Dawn Thrash Metal = Genre that originated in the 80s alongside power metal, typically very fast tempo, much heavier sound, meaner riffs, meaner lyrics, raspy, aggressive vocals. Think Heavy Metal but mixed with Hardcore Punk. Example bands: Metallica, Megadeth, Slayer, Over Kill Death Metal = Genre that originated in the late 80s as an evolution of Thrash Metal. Even heavier sound, even more aggressive "screaming" or "growling" vocals, super heavy drums, downtuned guitars, brutal lyrics and imagery. Example bands: Death, Entombed, Obituary Black Metal = Another genre that originated in the very late 80s as an evolution of Thrash Metal, fast tempo, extremely distorted guitars, screaming vocals, dark themes, very notable for usage of face paint and a super barren and purposefully compressed sound. Example bands: Emperor, Immortal, Darkthrone, Satyricon Melodic Death Metal = Evolution of Death Metal from the 90s, becoming more melodic and technical, incorporates elements of power metal and death metal. Heavy sound, melodic riffs, guitar solos, fast tempo, lots of synths. Example bands: Children Of Bodom, Dark Tranquillity, Kalmah, Made of Hate Folk Metal = genre that formed in the mid-to-late 90s mostly by Finnish bands, combines folk music with metal, usually melodic death metal, although occasionally with other subgenres as well. Typically heroic or folkloric lyrics, lots of traditional instruments like Accordion, Violin, flutes. Uptempo, very melodic and progressive. Example bands: Ensiferum, Finntroll, Korpiklaani, Eluveitie
My favourite Amorphis song is "From the heaven of my heart". It's a bit on the softer side of their songs, but it's about the Finnish mythical hero/smith Ilmarinen creating the "Sampo", a Finnish mythological machine. The Sampo is basically a box with a crank and 3 holes. As long as you keep turning the crank, gold, grain, and salt will pour out of those respective holes. Infinite wealth from nothing (some labour required. Insurance may or may not cover crank related injuries or overconsumption of salt)
"GO GO POWER RANGERS!!" xDD That really went perfectly with the song :) I really was laughing so hard when I you mentioned power rangers (kind of why had to come and comment) :D Thanks for making these videos, I think they fit very well with Finnish mentality, 'cause you feel like you're being pretty honest with your reactions and Finnish people are pretty quick to spot bs :)
Ensiferum is my favorite band ever from Finnland. Glad you will check em out. All the instruments are so tight and the vocals are pretty bearable even if your not 100% into screaming. The song Two of Spades has a really kickass part with an electric banjo^^ Twilight Tavern is also really really nice. Really love some of the diversity and folk metal in their songs too
Quite a narrow glance of the Finnish Metal scene even though there were a couple nice deviations to it (CoB, Korpiklaani). There are a lot more than just power metal bands to be recommended. Swallow the Sun(doom metal), Insomnium(melodic death), Stam1na(progressive), Shade Empire(black) for example, all of which represent different metal genre.

You can really tell that this list is made by someone who doesn’t listen to metal. The list is missing soooo many better Finnish metal bands that should be on the list instead of half of the mentioned bands.
There would be many strong bands for the list. I feel this one wasn't the best list possible given the UA-camr isn't himself into metal. You should definitely do a reaction video for extra candidates (some of which are arguably much bigger than the ones on Aleksi's list): Wintersun - Epic melodic death metal with folk influences Swallow the Sun - Doom/death metal with atmospheric touches Moonsorrow - Atmospheric folk/black metal Kalmah - Melodic death metal with a swampy twist Eternal Tears of Sorrow - Melodic death/doom metal Reverend Bizarre - Traditional doom metal From Aleksi's list, give extra attention for: Children of Bodom - Neoclassical-influenced melodic death metal Amorphis - Progressive metal with folk and death metal roots Nightwish - Symphonic metal pioneers Additional recommendations: Insomnium - Melancholic melodic death metal Ensiferum - Epic folk/viking metal Korpiklaani - Folk metal with a party vibe Stratovarius - Power metal legends Apocalyptica - Cello-driven metal, started as a Metallica tribute band Sonata Arctica - Melodic power metal Turisas - Battle metal with folk and symphonic elements Omnium Gatherum - Melodic death metal with progressive touches Beast In Black - Heavy/power metal with 80s influences Mokoma - Thrash metal with Finnish lyrics, very popular domestically Kiuas - Power metal with folk and progressive elements Stam1na - Progressive thrash metal, also with Finnish lyrics Viikate - Melancholic rock/metal with a unique Finnish sound Hevisaurus - Metal for kids, featuring dinosaur costumes! As the Christmas is here soon, there's a particularly interesting phenomenon in Finland: Heavy Christmas (Raskasta joulua). Particularly popular among boomers, here's a sample where some of the most famous rock/metal artists join their forces: ua-cam.com/video/2s_QgMCW9ks/v-deo.html
A legendary Finnish pop rock group Ultra Bra is making a comeback, if you do a video on one of their hit songs i.e "Sinä lähdit pois" or "Minä suojelen sinua kaikelta" Finns in your comment section will go ballistic. Also they are both great songs and I'm sure you'll like them.
Whispered take a fine turn in Finnish metal: They do have Japanese influences! But yeah, it is always a fun to find new kind of music \,,/ Ensiferum's 'Burning Leaves' all the day...
Its like the term "Pop". Pop music today is not the same as pop music in the 80's. Swedish metalhead and lover of music here 👋There is so many genres based on sounds, themes and orgin. There is one called "Gothenburg sound" wich is a kind of melodic death metal that got popularised by bands that all came from gothenburg area like In Flames, At the Gates and Dark Tranquility. So powermetal started in 80's and generally contains themes of adventure and fantasy w/ and sounds upliftning or empowering with happy melodies and solos.
You should check finnish band called DIABLO. They have so many great songs. I give you couple off samples. Diablo-resign from life. Diablo-the preacher Diablo-angel Diablo-D.O.A ... and so on.
@@tubelious Agree. But you get the style of these bands pretty well, and Aleksi Himself said he doesn't really listen to metal so much, I guess that explains it.
@@tubelious Well, Hunting High amd Low was pretty decent example. But yeah, Nightwish's probably poppiest song (they couldn't be much further away from that today without changing the sub-genre completely)... but hey, he was intrigued, so it wasn't a total disaster 😁
As a Finn I am disappointed of the song choices from these bands, many of these didn't represent the band well - for example why there was the song with the worst singer from Nightwish? And Children of Bodom, not the most recognisable style of song. Amorphis, yes recognisable song but didn't show Tomi's variety.
I'm not a metalhead and people might k*ll me for this comment but my two Finnish favourites are Lost Society and Blind Channel, they are worth checking out 😊 it's strange to find so many metalheads here on UA-cam 'cause I feel like "no one" listens to it anymore and my family and all the people I know think I'm a metalhead but all the metalheads would laugh at me for listening to rock which is basically pop to them. 😂
Cvlt Ov The Svn if you want some very dark but often soft Finnish metal. I think the song The Pit especially have a lot of cosiness and darkness, perfect for days with longer and longer nights. Enjoy! 🙂
Anette is a very good singer. I didn't like her while she was a member of Nightwish. But now she's on par with the other Nightwish singers for me. 🤘🏻😊❤️
Two of my favorite Finnish metalbands weren't even mentioned... Before the dawn and Ghostbrigade. In my opinion, Ghostbrigade is Finland's best metalband, unfortunately they have stopped, still worth checking out. And yes there are many subgenres in metal, I don't even know them all and I listen to metal....
Children of Bodom is the best! First listen that starting from the first record! Theres 100 other Fin metal bands that shouldv be in this list.. Dont know why that man did that video when he havent even heard half of them..😮 Ill give you another top5 all time SENTENCED !!!
While it might not be technically correct way to categorize power metal, to me power metal is that "high spirit" melodical metal that you can clearly understand. There is no growling or "gravel" in the voice of the singer, just clear lyrics you can follow. It's about clear sound and musical mastery. Power metal is music that uplifts your mood and spirit with the energy it brings.
I feel like there should be a "better" list out there about different known finnish metal band. Since this list had so many folk metal bands, and still missed Teräsbetoni. :D And like where was Swallow the Sun and doom metal? Or Turmion Kätilöt with their disco metal. Or Sentenced? Few hint u...Ensiferum- on my sword- or into battle- or Andromeda...second band insomnium- we while sleep... next...Stratovarius- vision...Sonata arctica- the cage..
finntroll is my favorite band out of those 10
Here in Norway i think KORPIKLAANI are most known for the song "Vodka " :)
Turmion Kätilöt
Stam1na
Lost Society
Bloodred Hourglass
Brymir
Eternal Tears Of Sorrow
Impaled Nazarene
Older big ones.
Stone
Sentenced
Waltari(more rock)
couple good for example.
you should check out Metal Evolution series by Banger Films
The best goosebumps from ENSIFERUM generate the song called LAI LAI HEI. Enjoy!
Oh man,I have been listening to metal since the mid ninetees and i have no idea how many sub genres there are. They are multiplying and filling the earth! :D
Ah, nice.
I don't think I even need to bring up any artists since he covered my top ten, almost.
Finland have quite a few awesome metal bands. We have a lot of metal band here in Sweden to.
Teräsbetoni has some good stuff too
Children of Bodom is goated!
You can really tell that this list is made by someone who doesn’t listen to metal. The list is missing soooo many better Finnish metal bands that should be on the list instead of half of the mentioned bands.
I highly recommend you to listen Sonata Arctica's I have a word song, it has a huge meaning! and R.I.P COB Alexi
There would be many strong bands for the list. I feel this one wasn't the best list possible given the UA-camr isn't himself into metal.
You should definitely do a reaction video for extra candidates (some of which are arguably much bigger than the ones on Aleksi's list):
Wintersun - Epic melodic death metal with folk influences
Swallow the Sun - Doom/death metal with atmospheric touches
Moonsorrow - Atmospheric folk/black metal
Kalmah - Melodic death metal with a swampy twist
Eternal Tears of Sorrow - Melodic death/doom metal
Reverend Bizarre - Traditional doom metal
From Aleksi's list, give extra attention for:
Children of Bodom - Neoclassical-influenced melodic death metal
Amorphis - Progressive metal with folk and death metal roots
Nightwish - Symphonic metal pioneers
Additional recommendations:
Insomnium - Melancholic melodic death metal
Ensiferum - Epic folk/viking metal
Korpiklaani - Folk metal with a party vibe
Stratovarius - Power metal legends
Apocalyptica - Cello-driven metal, started as a Metallica tribute band
Sonata Arctica - Melodic power metal
Turisas - Battle metal with folk and symphonic elements
Omnium Gatherum - Melodic death metal with progressive touches
Beast In Black - Heavy/power metal with 80s influences
Mokoma - Thrash metal with Finnish lyrics, very popular domestically
Kiuas - Power metal with folk and progressive elements
Stam1na - Progressive thrash metal, also with Finnish lyrics
Viikate - Melancholic rock/metal with a unique Finnish sound
Hevisaurus - Metal for kids, featuring dinosaur costumes!
React to children of bodom - oops i did it again (its metal cover of the britney spears song)
Next BATTLE BEAST NOORA LOUHIMO Live & Official videos. from Finland. Wings Of light official video
I love BATTLE BEAST!
Good choice!
Battle Beast should be reacted to! For example, my favorite being Eye of the Storm. Shame it isn't listed.
"How many different metal sub-genres are there?"
Oh you sweet summer child... =)
Short answer: Hundreds, depending on who you ask.
I recommend to get familiar for Finnish Rock`n Roll bands in finland: Hurriganes and Hanoi Rocks ....
You should check finnish band called DIABLO. They have so many great songs. I give you couple off samples.
Diablo-resign from life.
Diablo-the preacher
Diablo-angel
Diablo-D.O.A
... and so on.
Check out Enochian Crescent - Lyijysiipi or any Swallow the Sun song.
The thumbnail 😂 RIP Alexi Laiho
That wasn't bodoms best song, bodom beach terror absolutey wrecks my mind in half everytime i listen it
very bad song examples - all around...
@@Garbox80 yup that Strato song was the only near hit. :)
As a Finn I am disappointed of the song choices from these bands, many of these didn't represent the band well - for example why there was the song with the worst singer from Nightwish? And Children of Bodom, not the most recognisable style of song. Amorphis, yes recognisable song but didn't show Tomi's variety.
I really recommend Beast in black and Battlebeast 😀 🎶
I'm not a metalhead and people might k*ll me for this comment but my two Finnish favourites are Lost Society and Blind Channel, they are worth checking out 😊 it's strange to find so many metalheads here on UA-cam 'cause I feel like "no one" listens to it anymore and my family and all the people I know think I'm a metalhead but all the metalheads would laugh at me for listening to rock which is basically pop to them. 😂
yes please, do a reaction of ensiferum! its one of my favourite bands!
Cvlt Ov The Svn if you want some very dark but often soft Finnish metal. I think the song The Pit especially have a lot of cosiness and darkness, perfect for days with longer and longer nights. Enjoy! 🙂
I saw Lordi live years ago in Brighton and they were hilarious. It was almost like a heavy metal 🤘 horror 💀pantomime🎭.
It's a crime to present Nightwish with Anette. Check out time before her to learn what the hype is really about!
Anette is a very good singer. I didn't like her while she was a member of Nightwish. But now she's on par with the other Nightwish singers for me. 🤘🏻😊❤️
Well put 😁
Two of my favorite Finnish metalbands weren't even mentioned... Before the dawn and Ghostbrigade. In my opinion, Ghostbrigade is Finland's best metalband, unfortunately they have stopped, still worth checking out. And yes there are many subgenres in metal, I don't even know them all and I listen to metal....
Insomnium and Omnium Gatherum are also cool bands with cool names lol😛
He missed Sentenced, 69 Eyes, Wintersun. Cildren of Bodom and Amorphis are my favourites here.
Children of Bodom is the best! First listen that starting from the first record!
Theres 100 other Fin metal bands that shouldv be in this list.. Dont know why that man did that video when he havent even heard half of them..😮
Ill give you another top5 all time
SENTENCED !!!
Another great Finnish band that was completely missed was Battle Beast.
I love amorphis
You should watch Sam Dunn's documentary series Evolution of metal...that would explain a lot about metal music...
Its Strange that Apocalyptica wasnt mentioned in the video !!
Try the band Stam1na their lyrics are in finnish and it definetly is one of the biggest metal bands who use the finnish language in the music 🫡
Jep!🤘 You don't take up any Finnish Speed Metal bands like Stone which have an enormous effect for later bands...? 🤔
Tarot
Sentenced
Suburban Tribe
needs some attention on the internet
Ensiferum is amazing
In Finland we don't say "the ship of Theseus", we say "Stratovarius"
I feel like there should be a "better" list out there about different known finnish metal band. Since this list had so many folk metal bands, and still missed Teräsbetoni. :D
And like where was Swallow the Sun and doom metal? Or Turmion Kätilöt with their disco metal. Or Sentenced? So many big finnish metal bands missing from this list.
Korpiklaani would translate to something like "forrest clan".
