I remember I was a kid when I watched this movie for the first time. I did not understand anything, I only remembered the Mahabharata scene and everybody in my family laughed like crazy at that scene… it was hilarious… But now after all these years, when I look back at it in retrospect as an adult, as a parent, as a working class citizen, it really just makes me rethink and just makes me wanna do something about this helpless and hopeless situation !

I saw the movie a long time ago and don't remember the storyline much but do remember one dialog at the climax. At the mahabharata play, dhritarashtra keeps saying "Sanjay, yeh sab kya ho raha hai? " There were three meanings to it. Either he was saying his dialog as per mahabharata script, or he was asking why the play is being disrupted or he was expressing anguish at what is happening in the country. That was ultimate level satire.
Really well written script and well made episode. Me being a journalist though I am not covering the incident, my colleagues and photographer friends who are there in the field and capturing the tragedy telling us how heartbreaking it is...seeing dead bodies of so many children...yaar difficult to sleep at night...I just hope justice is done!!
I've a question from the builders POV. If the bridge was renovated / tested for 125 people. And if 500-600 people come on the bridge, are the engineers who worked on it, still accountable for the collapse? Or is it just the administration who is responsible for controlling the crowd.
When the society is divided between us vs them then. The so called representatives targets one of them only to kill the humanity and togetherness in rest of them and after that the game is simple. Now how many died it's just a number.

A classic from my childhood, I remember my parents showing me this when I was too young to get the social commentary and just laughing at the coffin and the Mahabharat scenes.
I remember watching this movie during my childhood and the climax and setup didn't make much sense to me. It was more of a comedy for me, unfortunately that comedy has become this country's prevalent reality.

Have loved this movie since 1990s. Watched it several times. In fact this movie came to mind when I heard the news of the bridge collapse. Wish Bollywood would have the guts to make such moves in the present times.

I remember watching Jaane bhi do yaaro on Doordarshan, in the 90s, always thought about it as an iconic comic movie, but never thought it had such a great in-depth on corruption.
This movie has always remain my favourite movie. Somehow, here and there, I do relate the development of India with the movie, but you have attained excellence in the same. Not just a good work sir, excellent work.
In those days it was pleasure to watch NFDC movies, definitely they use to be wonderful. Question is are we or the NFDC produce such movies. NFDC has produced Richard Attenborough 's Gandhi, why it is not being telecast?
What an unforgettable movie!! How progressive the society was in those days! We can never think of the mahabharat scenes of the movie being allowed in our country for a long time to come. Sentiments were not hurt back then. We are definitely marching backwards.
You are right Akash, many people don't get there booked homes on time. One thing to mention , even if the people get there homes, they don't get the proper basic needs on time like water for municipality. Since past few years in my society people are fighting because of water shortages and one of the common reason for this is Water pressure is less. I have only one question, how do a builder gets permission (from Government) to build mega townships, if there is so much of water scarcity in the city? What does the government do during rainy season when there are floods (since many times when I watch the news channels, they are saying that the irrigation department officials have opened the doors of dams and due this nearby area may flooded) that means dams are 100% filled, then where this water go? Can we increase the capacity of the dams? Can you just post a video on this topic.
Builders have become modern day Gabar Singh...they don't need to go to people,homes/villages for looting,we common men give our hard earned money ourselves in hope of a dream home. Keep waiting n cursing our destiny become norm for lakhs of gullible buyers. Sad state of affairs...

I recently saw this movie again and found it so relevant in today's scenario....My children had asked me the meaning of satire and in answer to their question I made them watch this movie and was amazed how true it was to this day.. What a revealing episode...best of luck to us all...

The powerful ambiance of corruption making it difficult for the common man to survive. Very serious topic yet performed with great sarcastic comedy. The story ahead of time was very accurately imagined and observed. Two common men trying to earn their bread and butter goes into the lap of corruption mafias in businesses and ministry, tries to control it somehow, but “Jaane bhi does yaaro” that’s what we feel in the end. From very starting we see the struggle of common man represented by Vinod(Naseeruddin Shah) and Sudhir(Ravi Baswani) who somehow gets the job but it turns out to be used for corruption only. Big business tycoons and powerful authorities of ministry play with the laws with the help of the black money and the one who pays for it is a common man. The movie takes a serious turn around interval but director and writers did a great job in turning out this whole serious combination of corruption and murder into a full sarcastic comedy. The ending is a whole different level which is a small theatre act turning the actual characters and story of the play upside down and full of laughter, and an unexpected but factual true ending leaving the viewer’s heart and mind saying “Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro”. Obviously, it was a movie much ahead of its time and will be forever the same in any situation in the future as well. Never say “jaane bhi do yaaro” to this movie, it is a perfect watch in the contrast worlds.

You are right Akash, many people don't get there booked homes on time. One thing to mention , even if the people get there homes, they don't get the proper basic needs on time like water for municipality. Since past few years in my society people are fighting because of water shortages and one of the common reason for this is Water pressure is less.
I have only one question, how do a builder gets permission (from Government) to build mega townships, if there is so much of water scarcity in the city?
What does the government do during rainy season when there are floods (since many times when I watch the news channels, they are saying that the irrigation department officials have opened the doors of dams and due this nearby area may flooded) that means dams are 100% filled, then where this water go?
Can we increase the capacity of the dams?

Jane bhi do yaro and Pushpak Biman (Kamal Hassan) are two must see for all University grads. Both are super hilarious and serious at the same time.

I recently saw this movie again and found it so relevant in today's scenario....My children had asked me the meaning of satire and in answer to their question I made them watch this movie and was amazed how true it was to this day..

The powerful ambiance of corruption making it difficult for the common man to survive. Very serious topic yet performed with great sarcastic comedy.
The story ahead of time was very accurately imagined and observed. Two common men trying to earn their bread and butter goes into the lap of corruption mafias in businesses and ministry, tries to control it somehow, but “Jaane bhi does yaaro” that’s what we feel in the end. From very starting we see the struggle of common man represented by Vinod(Naseeruddin Shah) and Sudhir(Ravi Baswani) who somehow gets the job but it turns out to be used for corruption only. Big business tycoons and powerful authorities of ministry play with the laws with the help of the black money and the one who pays for it is a common man. The movie takes a serious turn around interval but director and writers did a great job in turning out this whole serious combination of corruption and murder into a full sarcastic comedy. The ending is a whole different level which is a small theatre act turning the actual characters and story of the play upside down and full of laughter, and an unexpected but factual true ending leaving the viewer’s heart and mind saying “Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro”.
Obviously, it was a movie much ahead of its time and will be forever the same in any situation in the future as well. Never say “jaane bhi do yaaro” to this movie, it is a perfect watch in the contrast worlds.
