In 1962 I was on my honeymoon with my new husband. We were on a lambretta 135 with all our gear and 2 guitars. Coming from Ely we commenced to Austin. We were 21 & on our way to work
in the Civil Rights movement in the South. But we first took a trip around the U.S. We took $100 & we were both singers. So, we hit Austin around 8 pm. We found a funky bar & went in & asked if we could pass the hat and sing. They were thrilled. Not only did we do well, but we met some wonderful Nevada characters. I can't remember names very well, but there was a lady who was the
Sheriff, Postmaster, barber and a wonderful artist. She specialized in iddy bitty desert oils. She set us up with a bowlegged cowboy named "Happy Jack" who lived in a trailer at the rodeo
arena. We stayed overnight there & slept on hay bales. Next day we asked the lady, who's name I just can't bring up to give my new hubby a haircut, which she did. She also gave us one of her
little paintings. She was a wonderful story teller & we loved that. We really hated to leave Austin. We didn't know about the Petroglyphs & left w/o seeing them. But we did camp in a place where
the local Indians were harvesting piñon pines & were invited to participate and take some with us. Delicious and great great fun for a couple of youngsters. Thanks for making such a clear lovely video.

It seems that even when you're in a vast flat region, in the middle of nowhere in places like Nevada, there's always spectacular mountains to be seen in the distance. That's the difference between here and the Australia 'Outback'. We have many very lonely roads but seldom do you see distant mountains. We call them Ranges.

Nevada is called the basin and range stage 💪 the most mountains in the US other than Alaska. So all the roads are down in the basins, surrounded by beautiful ranges!

@@kenhoyer8601 Indeed. In fact, I'd consider Nevada a far more spectacular region. Also, unlike Nevada, the Australian 'Outback' has only a few sealed (Bitumen) roads. The rest are just gravel and dust and often severely 'corrugated'

I rode that road about 10 times in the winter, on my sled, the road was covered with packed snow and ice. The Hiskey stage truck had chains and would allow us to hook up on the back of the truck, to the summit. Great fun, great ride all the way through town and beyond depending on how much you wanted to walk back.

I just love the old covered sidewalks . Saw a short span when you were driving through Austin. I especially like the Board Walks. ..once I was hitchhiking and landed in Virginia City, Nevada. I "slept" under an old barn like building near the edge of town. I kept hearing boots walking on the wooden walkway across the street from me. But , every time I looked, there was no one there. Spooky enough to keep me awake most the night.

We drove Hwy 50 from just east of Reno to Utah about 9 years ago ( Great Basin Nat'lPark/Lehman Caves was the best part )....It's a long, long, lonely road across Nevada alright. It's many long hours of driving between each of Russ's videos. Up and down many mountain passes.
We always stopped at any cafe's or burger/ice cream joints that were open just to talk to the locals. Not sure if I'd do that drive again. I think once was enough.

I bought a "Delorme" Road Atlas of Nevada and, apart from Clark County in the South, there is nothing anywhere. This is truly "in the middle of nowhere". When I drove Rte 50, all I saw was the asphalt of the road and empty vastness all around, no ditches, no electrical lines, nothing. Nice video, thank you! Love Austin Nevada! The written Egyptian is pictorial as are the Petroglyphs. Moses, who was well educated in the Egyptian culture, was a Hebrew that led the Sons of Jacob also called Israel out of Egypt. They, modern scholars could not understand Egyptian until they discovered the Roseta stone, a Greek translation of the Egyptian!
The early Hebrew was somewhat pictorial in the first five books of the Hebrew Bible! Scholarship of the day and later gave us the Hebrew we see today which is called the Alaph-Bet, Alphabet after the first two letters of the Hebrew!
Bible Greek is koine meaning common. Hellenistic Greek came later. Languages change but the Alphabets and grammar remain except for style such as punctuation. I am not an authority on Grammar!
The Bible says that mankind has been on the Earth about 6,000 years! There is much speculation and conjecture! History and common sense are most interesting. Much Conjecture forces its way and is sourced from prejudice! History and honesty tell us much! Ron PTL USA

So, time has no control over Him nor does anything else! He is 100% righteous. Some of His creatures have chosen Evil. We are now in resolution of the Sin problem and have been since Adam and Eve. 🙋‍Hello Russ! The petroglyphs were interesting to see. Austin is so quiet. Not a soul to be seen until you got to the end of town passing the gas station. I didn't notice a restaurant or a store for groceries. I think the stars would be beautiful at night. Sparkly (like diamonds). Mom would take all 4 of us out to the outhouse at 3:00 a.m. I loved looking at the stars. Now my Sister has a street light. In hopes you are staying cool & not affected with high temperatures. Have a good week. 👍

Russ, thanks for sharing another great video. You pointed out a very good reminder when traveling, don't focus on the destination but enjoy the journey. I didn't realize how many places and things to see on hw 50. Good information in planning my future adventures of driving that route.

Wow. Immense thanks. I live in the Reno area and did not know about these attraction areas even though I drive Highway 50 as often as possible. I am going to check these sites out.

Thanks Russ. I prefer to drive 50 when I’m headed to Idaho. Take your time road…….

If I ever get back on the road again , I'll be the one every one honks at and flips off for going so slow.

Lots of history for sure along that highway I saw were you met somewhere along the loneliest highway with Greywolf (Ron ) on his freedom walk to
DC he had some very kind words about you in his video ….. enjoyed watching and learning about this stretch of Nevada!!
