    Thank you for making it clear to those who think that only native teachers will help them learn better English language and beef up their fluency. Just keep speaking and more speaking will develop one's fluency.

    Yep, that's true, however, is a great way to boost when it comes to speaking but not all the skills that we need to make better. So that was a useful topic to keep that in mind and thanks a million for sharing it.

    Hello, let me share a little something. I grew up in a former british colony. I had to go through a school based on the british system. My country was also colonised by france at some point in time. I naturally spoke french but not english. I went to school but had so much difficulty studying in english since it was not my mother tongue. Also people are fluent in creole (local dialect). SO basically i had no practice of english in my environment. And Unfortunately there was no public french school at that time.. the only one existing was a paying one. I remember enjoying reading a lot in french. Anyway my whole school years ended up being an academic disaster. I had to go through a programme which allowed me access to a french university. During those years i started watching a lot of materials on youtube. I listened to songs, documentaries, vlogs etc. For a few years abroad i didn't speak my local dialect. And infact my brain was grasping a lot of english indirectly. I picked up the intonations, vocabulary, pace etc.. And one day after watching a video on gardening, i realised that i could think in english and it would happen for a long time. I just wish i had some practice with native speakers. I became a french teacher later on. Unfortunately i work in a school where students and teachers express themselves in creole. So i am not exposed to english at all. And after a few years working there, i loss my fluency. Very sad but true. Now i have huge difficulties thinking in english, finding vocabulary, words etc.. i feel an emptiness in my mind. After so much effort rewiring my brain to grasp that language.. i lost it because instead of practicing in an english environment.. i find myself forced to use the local dialect of my country instead to communicate.. Anyway..

    you could be fluent if you are confident and willing to talk a lot all the time despite making some mistakes. and if the person you're talking with is patient enough to listen and considerate to teach and correct every mistake you make.

    So to my own understanding,
    The main point of this video is that while speaking with native English speakers is a valuable aspect of learning the language, it is not sufficient on its own.
    Gabby notes that in a live conversation, there is not enough time to process new words or phrases, and that native speakers are not always willing or able to correct mistakes or teach new vocabulary.
    She also argues that taking lessons with a teacher or tutor who can provide corrective feedback and focus on specific areas of improvement is essential for advancing to an advanced level of fluency.
    Additionally, the speaker notes that native speakers may not want to be seen as a tool for language learning and that it is important to approach them respectfully.
    I hope this helps some of you English learners.

    Yeah, it really interrupts natural conversation when you have to pause to teach people about their mistakes (in any language) by explaining them. No fun at all. Many people aren't in the mood to teach you either you'll just have to use the various tools and the technology available to pull you through and so you may successfully learn the language and reach fluency.

    I think, is much more useful a strategie of self correction. I hate correctors, no matter they are teachers or not, in both cases it sounds rude. If someone correct you, that means, this person has understood you. Correction is a personal thing, I know I have to improve, and I can do it by myself. Trying to correct others is the most odious thing that a person can do. There are non natives, that correct natives. It's kind of an obsession, maybe a psychotic behaviour.
    Correct my errors please!!!. Any way, your advices are quite valuable. Thanks a lot. 9:56

    Oh this is so true! It reminded me of the not so well defined but important difference between a good friend and your therapist; I mean our friends love us but sometimes they're not the best counselors... While if we want to have a coffee with our therapist, she or he will have to tell us that we are not friends...

    Not true. I literally learned near-Turkish fluency by being around native Turkish speakers and hearing how they use the words and utilize different expressions and at what moment. You're trying to be different and come at this with some kind of "unique" angle, and it's not helpful advice, nor true.

    • @GoNaturalEnglish
      @GoNaturalEnglish  Рік тому +4

      Cool! Maybe you should make a video about it if that’s true. In my experience as I said in the video, just speaking with natives will not give you all the details to speak 100% correctly.

    • @byRidvana
      @byRidvana Рік тому +2

      @@GoNaturalEnglish Well, obviously everyone knows that just by speaking with natives alone you won’t learn. Usually language learners incorporate studying, reading, or any number of various ways to learn a language along with practicing with native speakers.

      Unless you do it since you were a teenager or younger OR you just happen to have a great ear, yes, this could happen without the need of good English Lessons. BUT people with such ease for languages and with such good ear are rare.

    • @byRidvana
      @byRidvana Рік тому +1

      @@erg7051 not true either. I started learning Turkish when I was 25. Now I can speak very comfortably in it. Being around natives helped me tremendously because some things I would learn from grammar books I didn’t know how to use in real life situations enough and being around natives taught me that.

    I think what you said makes a lot of sense. It's like a person learning to play football or basketball - if a beginner were to go straight to a real game on the first day and be expected to train in a real setting, that wouldn't be a good method because they haven't even practiced the most basic rules and movements. Going straight to a real game would be very difficult and put a lot of pressure on them. The right way to learn is to study the rules, practice the movements, receive professional training in techniques, and build up strength and endurance. It's the same with learning English - you need to study grammar, vocabulary, and practice pronunciation exercises on your own.
