Really nice, clean loft. The HVRs are really cool, i like the colors. Remember, red is dominant so even though the BBs father was silver she can only throw blues unless mated to a red.
The only lofts I remember that clean were the old concrete one we had in Cuba it seems centuries ago but only the 70s early 80s. Water pressure cleaner a must although your fire method applies to wood I’d rather concrete and water than fire and anything here in Colorado
I always preferred the wood due to its ability to absorb the moisture from the pigeon droppings the torch not only destroys bacteria but dries up any moisture in the loft
@@EBloft the Cubans secret weapon in the loft for nesting absorption and cleanliness in general I only used tobacco scraps and stems too, swear by them here some prefer pine
I'm 74, used to keep (never raced) pigeons when I was a teen, in UK, we call this "the fancy" because he's a pigeon fancier,,,,, and just from this short vid, it's obvious that this is this guys passion,,,, I envy him

Pretty birds , i dont race them or anything just a hobby , you mentioned having 2 many , i dont have enough , between my dogs , hawks , squirrels , rats , started with bout 60 down to 6 , of course this is over like a 5 to 6 yrs time frame but the learning process ....AWESOME SAUCE !!! 👍

Good luck with the shredded paper. I tried it with the paper from my office shredder. It packed down and stayed wet. When it died, it was hard as wood. Curious to see if you have a better experience.
hey how did the shredded paper work out for the nest bowls i’m going to start beeeding in a few wks i saw u posted a while ago about using paper do u recommend it ? pros and cons thanks in advance
So far so good! Id recommend putting a lot of it in the nest box because it packs down a lot from the birds walking on it i just had an egg hatch so nows the real test to see how it is with all the droppings from the yb but i plan on changing it weekly anyway. It is very absorbent though im also using it in my chicken coop an works great. Good luck 👍🏼
Thanks, its been a few years since i raced in a club here used to fly in the cjc one of the largest combines on the east coast i did pretty well my first few years average speed 3 seasons in a row an a few other small achievements, im just getting back into the birds again an this will be my first season in the one loft races due to my work schedule im unable to train a team of ybs every day so one loft races seem to be my only option nowadays.
Hi can you recommend any good books to help a beginner with vaccines food vitamins and so on ? When I was younger I had pigeons but , there's so much more information now on the internet that it can be overwhelming 😳 thanks ...
If you haven’t already I’d recommend subscribing to the racing pigeon digest it’s inexpensive an has a lot of good information in every issue an theres a new issue every month with multiple articles from different fanciers.
You will like the wolverine birds. I have a son and daughter of wolverine. I love them. I also have a son of Said N Spun Silver x Robbins Island. A son and daughter of night angel. If your interested hit me up we can work something out.
Very good, i will keep you in mind. in the near future I would like to try an get a son of Thomas 6 i have a granddaughter of him with a few other known birds in her pedigree that i would like to try an breed next year possibly
Unfortunately i dont have pedigrees for my older family of birds my last season racing in the combine was in 2014 an i somehow misplaced all the documentation i had on all the pairs i put together back then
Nope, no heat ever pigeons dont need heated lofts as long as they are out of the elements an there isn’t a constant wind gust on them the tolerate the cold just fine the only source of heat in my breeding loft is the small amount given off from the led lights
My two favorite blood line are Huysken Van Riel and Jansens . We used to raise 60 young birds 40 we’re on our team the van riel was always very good from 200 miles to 600 miles to Janssens were the same. In the Janssens bloodline, you would get some that had an orange eye we used to call it a dig eye (dig meaning an ole street pigeon )boy could they race . I see you don’t use a dropper pigeon that brings your racers down to your loft! A dropper was usually a big head Tumbler we kept with the racing birds, we trained the Tumbler to just fly to the landing board. We had to clip his wings and stand a few feet from the board and throw him to the board that got him used to just going to the board. We would hold him in our hands and when our pigeons were circling the loft and we wanted them to come down. We would hold him upright and let him flap his wings. Then we would throw him to the board and the pigeons would get the idea to come down and get inside. That way we could clock them after the Tumblr did this a few times and the racers got used to it we would let the tumblers wings grow out and a good Tumblr would sit on your board and when he seen pigeons in the air he would circle the yard and come back to the board. Thanks for letting me share memories, I’ve always loved racing pigeons, good flying.
Yes, the hvrs always did well for me in my area as well as the haveniths i used to use tippler crosses for dropers an they worked great now i only keep three droppers as i dont need to use them for just road training an loft flying, one day I would love to race locally again but i just don’t have the time to train everyday with my work schedule we have one of the best combine’s around here to compete in as well.
Collect pine needles. For bedding nesting material,. Paper molds. Dirty it will collect on toe nails like cement when it gets mixed with the dropping and water etc
I plan on changing the paper shreds often, the reason I don’t use pine needles is the amount of other bacteria already on them from different organisms would rather not bring that into my loft
@@EBloft you will find over time , Until pigeon young until they are old enough they will crap within the nest bowl. This is when the moisture from the crap will mix with paper products and form the cement like balls on there toenails.
@@EBloft l personally found dry pine needles never to be a problem , l fail to tell you l would take an large pillow case fill about halfway full of the brown pine needles spay some bleach water on them. Main thing about, Raising good anything is you write down every thing you hear see. In one book. And everything you do ,time of year, weather distance. Moisture, feed. Breed , altitude feed. Mixture. Darkening time rest before the race.
