You’re lessons have really been helping me cause I’m brand new to gospel but have been playing for 27yrs. With no intention of being pedantic though, the ii of C# is d#- yes theres a difference.
Jus want to thank you for being a guide out here to so many. Just about every other guitarist or musician for that matter would rather talk about others instead of help them grow so jus kno that videos like these are very much appreciated. Gotta thank Austin for getting me to really pay attention to who you are
Thanks for the tutorial!! It’s tremendous he’ll for me getting back into playing lead guitar for my church. I’m not sure how much of your audience plays gospel but if you make more tutorials like this then at least I’ll be watching them🙋🏽♀️😅
Hey I really enjoy all the guitar information that you provide I've been playing a long time but I stopped for a while I played with a lot of famous artist I'm on cameos machismo album I worked with black street type Trippet chubby checker and numerous other acts I was a artist called kid Seville on salsoul in the early 80s so I will continue to check you out thank you Lenny Williams aka kid Seville
Try this also Db/F to Gb to G dim to Gb)/Ab then Bb to B to C to C# this may be challenging for beginners just thought it might give another perspective...
Before I watch anymore of this video, can I please remind you taht going from a C# to a E flat is not diatonic to the C# scale. Where C# is I D# is ii and E# (F) is iii. So your C# to E is a diminsihed chord in the C# Major scale.
Thanks so much this really helps!!! Question, how do you turn basic chords into “churchy” chords. I’m learning “It’s All in Him” and I’ve managed to figure out the lead vocal melody and basic chords, but I mostly just practice improving with the major pentatonic scale. That’s cool for now, but I’d really like to take it to the next level with this song. If you get the chance, please help! Lol
@levidavis Jimi was all Gospel and Blues. This walk up is elementary in its nature actually, if you’ve been listening to raw blues and the basic stuff. Nice lesson though.
A couple things you got wrong. The thinnest string is the first string. The thickest string is the 6th string. Also a triad is only 3 notes. God bless.
Technically according to music theory, yes. But for some reason music outside of the orchestral tradition tends to think in terms of flats. But not always, F# is ii in E and vi in A. Nomenclature yields to common names irl but technically you are correct.
Fwiw, I wish it was called D#. Because since the III is E I don't like having an Eb as well. But as long as this guy can play this well, what he calls something is of secondary importance.
@@Kerry2smooth i mean thats fine, theyre enharmonic, its clear what you mean. but why not just say yr in Db maj then rather than all those sharp notes in the scale?
@@dank4254 i agree its not a big deal, its just im thinking c# maj so when i hear e and ii i get confused because im wondering if I missed a modulation somewhere. I am pretty sure the habit of always using flats is a horn thing 'cuz they all transpose to flat keys. but i came up in punk rock so im lucky if i can say "a string, 6th fret" and not get blank looks.
Thanks for watching! Post your questions and comments below.

For guitar players just starting out, strings are numbered from the thinnest (highest pitch) to the thickest (lowest pitch) 123456 (ebgdaE).
Thanks Bro!!
That PRS sounds great.
This is good. It’s almost like his fingers are dancing accordingly the music. “A chordingly.” Lol
good form lol

Hey Kerry , thanks for the videos. Can you do a lesson on quartet style licks, chords, double stops etc played by guys like Chris Payton
Subscribed... Excellent.
Kerry is your favorite guitarists favorite guitarist.
Thanks bruh. Just like you said, its a movable chord. I can use them in ANY key and it helps make the sound more fuller. 👍👍🔥🔥🔥🔥
Thank you mam🙌🏾
Hello Kerry could do the gospel walk up in the key of G but the walk up from B to C to C# to D otherwise walk up 3 to the 5
Great lesson! Thanks so much, I really needed this!
Perfect for when the preacher starts to get the sweats

If you say the key as Db major, then the use of Eb minor is consistent.
Thank you bro, i was wondering if you could do a video on how to play Donell Jones "Where i wanna be".
HI Kerry. I am 67 and want to learn how to play. Been messing around now I have a desire to know what I'm really playing ( Learn the number system)
Hey 2 Smooth. Any chance you can make a cover to "Go tell it on the mountain" by maverick city music?
Could you please play this in Ab?
Bro, it's not the center of the lesson which, by the way is nice, but the ii of C# is d# even if it sounds the same as eb.
Exactly .. there is NEVER a flat in a sharp key. I do appreciate the videos Kerry.
If you translate his use of C# naming, into the sanctified key of Db (my fav…) then the rest follows better.
Thanks K2S, for being there for us.
I clicked on this expecting to find out what a "gospel walkup" is. I ended up learning that people are playing Blue Monk at church.
😂😂😂
Where do you think Monk got it from?
Bro. Kerry you are great but I was hoping for little bit
more melodic sound with the gospel walk up or a simple song.
anyone knows where can i find the intro song? it's too good
bro, please use sound panels... the low sound qual is hurting me a little bit. great content man learning a lot... keep going.
Cool......noowwwwww how we actually do the "shout" though? Like, straight Jabari Johnson.
Liked & subscribed because your sons told me to

I wanted to kno this awhile back never really hopped in the comments about it though. 👍🏾
I play dom7 chords on the last 4 chords. The organist at my spot adds the 13 on them too.
What software are you using to create and place the fret diagrams in your videos

Anybody else hear "Manic Depression" by Jimi Hendrix in this or is it just me?
Or you hear Gospel music on Jimi's Manic Depression

Its called the Nashville number system.
Almost nobody says it like that. You usually hear of it as just the number system.
@@abcrx32j That's the correct name though.

Nice job but you're not in C#. You're in Db.
Exactly. E isn't the 2 of c
not to be pedantic, cuz this is great, but that ii chord isn't Eb, it's a D#.
We don't same D# fam we say Eb.

You need a carpet in the room to kill the echo.
You can't call the 2 of C# Eb! Where is D? Smh
(Absolutely just joking)
What I dont like about "church" music is that you guys stick to music theory like its verses in the bible.. gotta have some funk
Who are you listening to? Gospel musicians are wild. Not as wild as most jazz musicians but gospel gets out there.
