Being charged as an adult means that he could get the death penalty which I'm not against and I hope that people in Geogria will find that option as acceptable. But as one who has worked with troubled children age 14-21 and worked with developmentally disabled children of all ages, I can say that the fault/blame is not entirely his. By age 14 we should be able to distinguish the basic differences from right and wrong. But we don't know what kind of upbringing or influence this kid has had. We do know that the child brain is not fully developed until age 25 (if it ever can be fully developed depending upon a lot of factors like brain damage at birth to accidental damage to drug use). That means that his rational for his actions may not have been totally under his own control. He may not understand consequences. After exhaustive interviews, I hope a psychiatrist indicates some parental involvement in this shooting and some missed opportunities from school officials, guidance personnel etc. More than one person had their hand on this trigger and more than one person could have prevented the gun from firing.

The consequences when the FBI & authorities tell you that your son is making dangerous threats online & you tell them they do not have access to your firearms so they let him go. Sadly his consequences are much less than the victims.

It all depends upon circumstances and if the DA charges the suspect as an adult. Being charged as an adult takes away your childhood privileges. Do an adult crime get an adult penalty.

I was only FIFTEEN minutes away! My school didn’t even go into lockdown. I go to West Jackson Middle School. Never thought something like this could happen so close. It could’ve been my school! The shooter threatened to shoot our school as well. He said we were next. He even went to my school in sixth grade. He even played with Beyblades with some of my closest friends!
