The fact a trade can be considered so bad it has to be explained across different sports says something, this shit can't even be done on 2k...
I'm surprised he didn't bring up the 2K part, cuz that's what I find the funniest
Not if you're a Lakers fan 🤣 which I happen to be
@@whosaidthat84even as a laker you should be worried not happy. What tells you the next team to get done dirty like this isnt gonna be the lakers? Those billionaires couldnt care less if they do it to one team they can do it to others
@grisaia3150 we already got done dirty when they nixed the Chris Paul trade back in 2011. Move on
I love how halfway through, this becomes a Fabrizio Romano slander video

That Romano n1gg@ must have been trained by the NSA, MI6,Mossad and the Ghost Of Christmas Yet To Come. He's literally never wrong.

I'd say it's like varane or Ramos trade with mbappe
Sergio ramos and Keylor Navas for mbappe
Even with both in prime it's a stupid deal
If Mbappe didn't want to go
this is like barcelona trading messi after his first ballon dor to manchester united for ferdinand when they also had like an old cr7
Luka getting kicked out of the mavs is like Real Madrid kicking out ronaldo for some reason
Eh, I’m not sure if your analogy works as Real Madrid is already a big club. Although them giving away their best player for free would essentially be the same as what Dallas did, at least Madrid is still a big club and had a team full of superstars at the time and could probably still win trophies even without Ronaldo.
Dallas ain’t that guy though, they’re a smaller NBA side with limited success and they only very rarely get a superstar like Luka. So it would be more like teams such as Nottingham Forest, Villa or Newcastle giving away their best players for free to Arsenal or Liverpool.
@@bababababababa6124 Spot on but i would say Brighton or Newcastle.
The fact that you used Madrid as an example shows that you don’t watch too much football 😂
@@bababababababa6124considering that he played for Real Madrid, for the laughs I think the analogy fits
@@BIGTHANKSHEESHno, not really. The big difference is that Madrid could afford to lose Ronaldo. Obviously it would be stupid of them to give someone like CR7 away, but that team was so insanely stacked regardless and they would probably still win trophies even without him. The Mavs however literally couldn’t afford to lose Luka, Luka was the type of player they should have locked down on a lifetime contract and thrown away the key. Yet they traded him for scraps.
In short, Madrid needed Ronaldo ALOT less than the Mavs needed Luka. You guys think Madrid was a one-man team with Ronaldo, when in reality even their bench squad at the time was better than a lot of other teams.
All this is well and good but you truly have to ask yourself: wheres paul pogba in all of this?

Imagine it’s the year 2005. You grab your morning newspaper and you see the headline: “Man U trades young superstar Cristiano Ronaldo to Real Madrid for Roberto Carlos. Fergie says defence wins championships”
For me, the closest equivalent to this Luka deal is if Arsenal gave away Bukayo Saka to Real Madrid in exchange for Antonio Rudiger:
1. The deal doesn't make any sense because Madrid sacrificed their best defender when their defensive depth is shambolic kind of like the Lakers
2. The deal doesn't make any sense because why the hell did Arsenal sacrifice their best player who could contribute their team so much for 7-10 years like the Mavs did to Luka
3. Defensive-wise, Arsenal is the most stacked defensive team in Europe and it's now all about "Defense wins you titles" bs like the Mavs
4. No offense to Arsenal fans and Mavs fans but their team is not comparable to the sheer size of Real Madrid/Lakers
@@darwinmorgan6690 great comparison-u also forgot to mention that just like Saka Luka is the the face of the team/city
Only difference is that Real Madrid and arsenal play in different leagues.
I was honestly gonna make this comparison so thanks for bringing it up!
@@rayzhang7591 yeah, so maybe Saka for John Stones or even VVD (maybe too good to compare to the trade, but he’s old and getting worse just like AD)
But it does make sense for the Lakers. Yes they are sacrificing a key part of their defense, but what they get in exchange just so much better, and that key part of their defence is getting old anyways.
Imagine Barcelona trading Messi in 2011 for Drogba
Barcelona trading Messi to Man City for Kompany 😂
Is like trading 2015 Messi to connect with 2021 Messi, they can play together. And the 2015 Messi will be free agent in a year.
‘The Spurs of the NBA’ means something very, VERY different if you only watch the NBA and not the Premier League
For the English people in here: the analogy is if in the past, Wimbledon's recent takeover owners sold their best player for far below market price, thus made the team worse so the fans attend less and care less about it, as a ultimate means to move the club to Milton Keynes and rename it MK Dons.
Woww you really het the jackpot
Psh, that's ridiculous it would never happe-oh wait it already did. 😂
It's like Arsenal giving Saka to Man City for KdB (Walker would've worked better, because Defends win Championship but he's no longer there). And then proceed to call Saka unprofessional. Insane, absolutely unforgivable!
Walker went to AC Milan, so imagine if the Rossoneri decided to randomly give City Leao or Pulisic just to get Walker
Tbh Luka Doncic going to the Lakers reminds me of Robin van Persie going to Manchester United in 2012.
the maqwell editing creating nba memes is hitting like some fucking fent omg
About Fabrizio Romano rant. Agree with overall sentiment but couple disagreements.
1) Luka trade was a bombshell but usually through guys like Shams Charan and up until recently Adrian Wojnarowski, most of NBA trades were not surprising. Reports about trade requests etc happen all the time.
2) NBA is in such state that the trades generate more buzz than the actual sport itself. Those kinds of news is pretty much the most we hear about the NBA nowadays rather than games themselves. Fuels conspiracies that the trade was engineered by the league itself to generate interest. In short-term it worked since it's the Super Bowl week and NBA has the biggest buzz, but will it matter in long term? Probably not
Personally I was suprised about the Jimmy Butler trade to the Warriors because of the uncertainty of him going anywhere, same with the Mark Williams trade, Fabrizio has destroyed transfer windows entirely
@LandenKilronanI was pretty shocked when the mark Willam trade got reversed
Never cared about the nba till maqwell explained it .
13:33 Mason Rapewood is a genious name
12:17 - For those not into the NFL. The Dallas Cowboys *ARE* Tottenham - their fans live off past glory in the 80s and 90s, their delusional / hopeful fans always think this year they will turn it around, their owners see their team more as a business and don't really care about results on the field as long as the revenue is good, they always seem to underperform, despite on paper having good players and coaching. And they even both play in white AND both have shiny new world class stadiums that often hold non-football related things LOL
Honestly, I feel like we're past the delusion stage. Jerry Jones is going through his latter years Al Davis arc
i don't watch nfl either but you're describing man united here, not tottenham

Martinez is no where near the generational talent Luka is.
Which one
Come up with a better comparison, then
@Footyballerrrany Martinez that we know of(but they probably meant lautaro)
Yeah, instantly forgot that Martinez has won everything that is grandeur in football and has insane Goals per match ratio for strikers even for Argentinian one (apart from Messi of course). He is "a much better" comparison than Luka.
Luka is just oversighted because she fell down to the laps for small market teams that has only one signature players making people think he is "generational". What he did is basically on young Russ/Harden level. Not that far different apart from 30 PPG bs.
perhaps a decent comparison would be if Liverpool traded Salah after his first season when he took them to the Champions League final for someone like a Sergio Ramos. Salah was around the same age as Doncic, took the far, was in for a Ballondor shout and Liverpool werent the Powerhouse they are now while Ramos was still a great Defender but fairly injury prone and (I believe in his 30´s already)
Edit: Maybe it was Salahs 2nd Season where he took Liverpool to the Champions League Final I can´t remember just now
Salah and Sergio Ramos arent that appart in age. Sergio Ramos is 36 and Salah is 32
I always tell people if you think Americans just because we have playoffs in their relegations do not care about our teams look at the Dallas Mavericks fans carrying a coffin to their stadium. That is loyalty to a fault for a player
In Spain, Luka is regarded forever as a Madridista. He should've been a Maverick for life too dammit!
As a mavs fan all i have to say is that this organization never fails to amaze me
This trade was so bad that everyone from every aspect of entertainment just had to make fun of it.
The trade is like barcelona demolishing the la masia and instead build a la casa de retiro

WE NEED a Maqwell NBA channel
1:58 this is already crazy because with his resume at this point he was already the best free agent outside the NBA and I think you glossed over that Luka lead Slovenia to be European champions and in basketball Spain is as dominant as in football France is very good Germany a few years later would be world champions but in basketball the Olympics gold is more prestigious than the FIBA world cup
easily Luka should have been picked number 1 but phoenix had a home grown local talent who was taller and frankly it was a bust and Sacramento at 2 had a GM who had beef vs Luka father so he also picked another bigger bust that did nothing
I think the best comparsion in shock value of the trade would be Neymar to PSG but if Barcelona had actually offered him to them for like Thiago Silva and 40Mio.
How did they accept this? Why?

They consented when they signed ther contract/declared for the draft
It took 10 mins for me to realize this is a soccer channel
Football but you got the spirit now
Last summer's transfer window was funny for me as an Atleti fan cause we were one of the few teams that made Fabrizio backtrack on his "Here we go!"s due to last minute drama. It happened like THREE times in the window.
5:03 LOUDER
2:36 what tottenham are doing in nba?
I didn't realize how wild this was until i realized that the players don't get a choice in being traded and what team they go to. In football at the end of the day the player has a say in whether they leave or not (ofc there are weird circumstances but as a general statement players have the ability to choose). When my friend was like "yeah no he didn't choose this and he cant say no" i was MINDBLOWN
It's like Mbappe for Rudiger/ VVD.
Luka and Mbappe are both scoring machines, great playmakers who are perennial MVP candidates at the peak of their career. They both switched teams in the late 2010's that sparked a new era for their respective teams. Dallas and PSG are also similar, considering how they didn't fully set their franchise guy up for success. Rudiger and VVD are similar to AD in the sense that they are incredible defenders and can score. They might not have the best playmaking abilities, but they are above average at everything. I'd rank Rudiger and AD pretty similarly, both overall and in terms of defending.
Above average😳..wouldnt say AD is above average.no way you believe that dude. Impacting the game on both sides of the court isnt above average at all.
@cybomakh210 above average at everything means he's good/great at every single aspect of basketball, which includes consistency, passing, dribbling, etc. Obviously AD is a top 20-25 player in the league
In football terms, this is like trading Messi (Luka) with Rio Ferdinand (AD) in 2012. Luka's potential is much bigger than Vini Jr.'s potential in football. Vini Jr. already became the #2 option in Real Madrid. Luka will stay as #1 until he's like 37-38.
Thank you! I had no idea who this Luka guy was or why so many people were talking about him!
This would be like Frankfurt giving Marmoush to Bayern or Dortmund instead of Man City on a free transfer.
Saw Someone say it would be like if United originally kept Ronaldo.
And when he was 24 swapped him with Madrid for Raul
I thought this was abt American football until he started naming soccer players
The real football lmao

One of the best decisions ive done is muting Romano. You get all the signings as they happen!
12:55 TEARS BRUVV
4:42 It's so funny how Spurs (Tottenham) are like the exact opposite of Spurs (San Antonio)
If you want to compare the event itself to an event that actually happened in football it would be Messi leaving for free from barca, fans insanely mad, everyone thinking Barcelona did the wost possible thing ever. The only reason Barcelona is making a comeback (even tho they're financially fricked) is because they have solid foundations in reputation and la masia. If they were the equivalent of the mavs in size the club would get relegated and possibly dissolve.
Imagine the Sol Campbell transfer to Arsenal if Fabrizio was around then
NGL i called Luka a fat ass before he join Lakers. Now he's on our side 😅😂
Real 😅
Alternate title: Maqwell explains the career of Luka Doncic
Trade was so crazy football channels covering it🤣
I think Mbappé in 2020 after losing the champions League vs Bayern München traded for Lewandowski is an accurate comparison
People make the VVD comparison a lot when comparing this trade to football. But I think there's a bit of a difference because while VVD is still arguably the best player itw in his position, same can't be said about AD. Also comparing Lautaro doesn't quite capture how much Luka means to Dallas, there's also the fact that Dallas already has multiple good players in AD's position. There also needs to be a parallel between the Lakers and an equally demonic football club.
If I had to put it in football terms, this is like if Arsenal's sporting directors went to Madrid behind Arteta's back, gave away Saka to Real Madrid and they took an aging injury-prone Alaba and some failed wonderkid youth player like Renier in return.
Haaland for Van Dijk. One of the best scorers in the world, for a Great defender thats older but still valuable
It's basically selling Messi and signing Vincent Kompany.
Van Djik is 33😮 Holy F! Time flies by so fast.
This trade made me a former mavericks fan. I've been supporting them ever since i was 10 and i just feel like i was betrayed

Hey maqwell just wanna say your prononciation of Union Olimpija & Lukas name is perfect & as a Slovenian i appreciate it, as well as when you pronounce our footballers correctly during eruos + qualifiers.

Maqwell never fails
ok, i was not expecting my favorite football channel to name drop my favorite nba channel lmao, i hope synthetic sports do a football video one day
Suns are more like Belgium in football & Rep. of Ireland in rugby union. About the Spurs, they did blow a 2-0 lead to the Thunder in the 2012 WCF, but that was a more of a young team rising to the occasion and maturing before everyone's eyes rather than an old team getting outplayed and outpaced.
You know it is crap deal if you got European soccer player talking about how bad the trade deal.
Cole Palmer for Alisson. Liverpool get a generational player to replace their current one. Chelsea would concede less with Alisson, but also score less without Cole
This trade was straight up ass for both teams, the Mavs lose their star player, someone who was planning on staying for his whole career, and the Laker destroy their own defense
They doing just fine and this trade actually gave Lebron some motivation. Just look at their recent game
This was a great trade for the Lakers. Sure short term defense may not be great but it is not like they were going to do anything in the Western conference this year. They basically got a franchise player in his prime for an over the hill star and a first round pick which likely going to be a late round (and worthless pick). It way easier to get some defensive stoppers than it is to get a franchise player. Compare this trade for a 30 year old Rudy Gobert - A star player and 4 first round picks. The lakers made out like bandits.
The Lakers may hace destroyed their own defense, but they now have a generational talent that still has around 7-8 great years. In that time they can build a strong team around him to win 2-3 championships (and don’t get me started with the economic profit it will genérate).
Meanwhile the Mavs have shortened the time window in which they can win a championship since they are now a bunch of old players, and the fans have officially lost interest in the team, which will genérate an economic loss
The Lakers are fine because this wasn't about the short term. Before this trade, the Lakers were stuck in Basketball Hell, good enough to make the play-ins and maybe the first round, not good enough to make it any farther, in the no-mans land of drafting, and with LeBron a year or two from retiring.
Luka gives them a superstar to base the team around after LeBron retires (at the end of this or next year). It is much easier to put supporting pieces around a generational player than to find a generational player, especially if you are a team that players see as a draw (which the Lakers are).

I think Shams (kind of the nba Fabrizio) would of dropped this sooner if he had any info tbh lol the teams kept this super quiet. The Lakers basically convinced Nico not to tell anybody else so they wouldnt be drug into a bidding war and the dude actually went along with it lol. The only other trade in football terms i could think of would be Haaland for VVD, but Martinez for VVD prob makes more sense.
Nice video but you should’ve also mentioned how massive it was that Dallas didn’t bother to look for MUCH better deals from other clubs that would’ve given wayyy more than what lakers gave
The craziest thing about this is that none of the players knew anything. No one even bothered to ask about their opinion. The thing that you can just trade your biggest icon like a piece of furniture kinda scares me about the American sports.

the biggest trade in recent NBA history is just a normal transfer window for Real Madrid and Manchester City. 😆
its no coincidence either that Luka used to play for Real.

I love the Lautaro Martinez comparison, I think it’s pretty spot on. Not only have both guys been considered one of the very best at their position, not only are they both still in their prime, but they’ve both made it to the final of their sport’s biggest tournament very recently and lost.
I will say that I like the comparison of if Inter sent Lautaro to Manchester United. Like the Lakers, they are a storied team that has fallen on tough times because of incompetent management and this is the kind of move that would bail them out, just like what the Luka trade does for the Lakers. Maybe Lautaro for Luke Shaw or Bruno would be a decent comparison.
Yessir more basketball videos Max!😂 (And before I get the “It’s not as big as Football”. Ik is not but is still fun)
Best comparison i can think of is if Barca sold/traded Messi for Thiago Silva and maybe a Draxler or something in the coming years
If you're not familiar with the nba, this is like the president of FIFA himself moves young ronaldo to spain. Yes it does sound stupid because no way any gm would do that, theres gotta be a power above the gm at this trade
There's a conspiracy that Adam silver (Head of the NBA) pushes this trade to make Luka play for the NBA's biggest market team, LA Lakers, along with their biggest star, lebron james, in order to boost rating. I personally believe this to some extent, because no way any gm would trade a player that potentially will become the face of the league in a few years time when they have spent previous year to try build a roster around Luka and just reached the final last year just because he's overweight, while he still puts some number
Mavericks really said “No paying, but throwing”

NGL the statement "Spurs of the NBA" confused the hell outta me for a minute 😂
its like a low table premier league team gets a generational talent from the academy he carries them 5 years straight and have no intention of leaving and then they trade him for washed superstar and couple millions
As a casual Mavs fan, thanks for putting this in football terms, and yes I’ve been distraught for about a week now. Literally all of the Dallas teams are mid now
Triple double is football equivalent of both scoring a goal and an assist in the same game
This trade is like if PSG had sent Mbappe to Real Madrid in exchange for Eder Militao and some licensing rights or something like that
The Dončić trade is like if Arsenal decided to trade Thierry Henry against his will to Real Madrid for Claude Makelélé after failing to win the league in 2003.
