  • Thank you all for for watching. This has been something in the back of my mind for many years and the timing felt right. It may be a bit long and I could have cut out a ton of stuff but wanted to take you through the whole process. Hope you enjoy watching me struggle! You guys are sick.

I had a massive stroke when i was only 36 years old and i thought my life was over. It left me without the use of my right arm and minimal use of my right leg. After 5 years of rehabilitation i went out and bought a jeep and i put a 2.5” lift kit on it one armed and change my brakes, my oil, my transmission fluid, etc….but Bruce you just gave me so much inspiration watching you winch yourself out of that snow all by yourself. I get down every so often but i wont get down anymore. Thanks!!!

I keep a sled in my vehicle for hooking up for recovery… works in mud, snow, and even pokey fields. A cheap, plastic sled or a roll up SKED (emergency stretcher) is always a useful item. I also keep a yoga mat for laying on when under a vehicle. Either of those things could help you out with dragging yourself across the ground. As for your idea of snow shoes on your hands, awesome call.

As a T4-5 who has made some questionable decisions in my 38 years in a chair, and had to self recover more than I will ever admit, I really appreciate your wiliness to get out and prove to yourself that you can do it. Thanks for the content. And like you I hate Casey LaDelle. Thinking he can tell someone in a chair to get out and run the recovery outside the vehicle.....Gosh!!!! Seriously, the dynamic between you two makes me laugh so hard. I thank you and Casey for not being politically correct and being able to laugh at life. Your thumbnail was promising; Bruce laying down on the job. :p
Jokes aside; Big respect to you, brother.
Tips: The Yankum Snatch ring, to take the winch line back to the Jeep, so you could unhook the line to retract the line and free the Jeep. You might be in a situation where the best option is to leave the rigging gear.
Maybe have some plastic peace to slide on, that is strong enough to attach the winch line onto.
On the driver door side; Have some pulley system to ease your body into the car from such low points. Even a tiny winch??
    Love you oil rag.

People have said that I'm sick in the head that I enjoy watching the struggle, but the thing is, its all about seeing someone overcome the struggle, with no excuses, just for transparency!!! I've done a little mechanical design and construction of labor-saving things in my time and watching you build the ice throne got me thinking about a little helper someone could build for you: A gusseted swinging arm, off the top of the Jeep (folds back tightly against the back door until needed), with a couple of pulleys, rope, a small winch, and a platform to sit on, for those times when there's no throne building material laying about. Maybe you already thought about something like that and dismissed it but, I thought I'd mention it anyway. Take care and ditto to what YankumRopes commented.

I definitely don't subscribe to watch you struggle. Because I know struggle is an everyday thing for you, however, in this case we were all hoping that you would at least have a camera person, but that was not to be. You continue to amaze me, and I watch all your videos

The drone had me in stitches...then was thinking ..🤔 would a prusik allow you to grab the rope and drag your self along.
    Your positive energy is infectious.
    Hope to meet you soon.

I'm almost 67 years old and every morning I get up and my joints are all stiff and achy. I shuffle to the kitchen just like the Dolly Parton song, I grab my cup of coffee and not until that caffeine starts running through my vein do I start to limber up. I'm not going to complain anymore after watching you. BTW, that T-shirt you put was quite appropriate and what you did was anything but lazy!

DUDE!! this is the first video of yours I have watched. From me, a bi-lateral amputee with surgically reconstructed hands, to you, a paraplegic, THANK YOU! I greatly appreciate watching your struggle! I am constantly doing things I ought not be doing, such as camping, overlanding, fishing, and swinging a hammer. Years ago I tried the whole filming and posting, but you are very correct; Capturing you own footage is exponentially more difficult than having a camera person! I greatly admire your ambition to show others, even when the struggle is real, anything can be completed when determined to do so! even when taking the small things in life for granted NEVER stop appreciating the one life we are given!! lol I do everyday with each step I am still able to make. I cannot express enough how much this one video inspires me!!

If I may give you a suggestion, I would pack a ropeladder and fix it at your roof. That led to making it so much easier to dismount.
Never the less, what an awesome recovery!!💪 I enjoyed every second of it. Thank you so much.❤

Survival kit build for days like this. 1 tank of helium, 1 large spool of string, 1 corded fan, float to the tree and back in the chair.
I saw a cartoon like that back in the day, it was a long time ago so I don't remember the ending, but it looked like fun for sure.
Bruce to see how you did this recovery, was top notch in my book, and a life lesson from you to boot. That is why you rock, and why we watch.

You need to have a little winch inside your Jeep you might have to make up a row bar in the center there and then what you do is bring it over to your door row bar and have and have it connect to a small snatch block then it drops straight down by your door frame at the bottom and then you can put it between your legs and hoist yourself up and it could also drop you straight down drop you straight down

New tech intense video idea!! Combine this little winch idea with the sled and grappling hook promised by Casey. It will be "soo easy". Throwing the hook attached to the little winch line in the direction of the tree, dragging himself on the sled to the hook, re-throwing the hook and when tree saver and big winch line is secured, it is time to engage little winch to just sled back to and hoist back in the jeep.

I have bought a jeep about two years ago and I have Spina Bifida. I can walk for small periods of time so a video like this was very helpful if I ever get stuck by myself here in Northern Michigan. I am sure at some point I will need hand controls and I was wondering if you could make a video discussing your setup you have or direct me to a video you may have already done. Also the challenges of using hand controls in the different conditions you encounter while out on the trails.

Thanks for the inspiration! You were practically doing cartwheels going back for the soft shackle. Would it have been easier to winch tbe jeep another couple meters to get in on the road instead of the ditch. Im sure it is Casey Ladelle's fault either way. Another great video Bruce!

I was wondering if it would be easier to roll across, then I see you rolling across the road 😊, your one resourceful person, never, seen a free spool on a cordless remote 😮 definitely should save you going back and forth, to release it,excellent job, certainly makes me feel lazy 😂 and dragging yourself with the winch made me smile, thanks for sharing, all the best to you and your loved ones
