Tweed has one runway barely long enough to handle normal take offs and landings for these planes. It was smart they went to Bradley just in case. Longer runway so more room in the event of an issue. I think I remember hearing on the news they checked everything out and they ended up proceeding to Floridia.

BDL has longer runways.
Company may be better able to accommodate passengers there, they may even have a maintenance contract with someone on field

Like everyone said, runway is almost twice as long, and they were coming in heavy.
