‘Cyclovia Encinitas’ and new 2023 laws for CA bicyclists

A growing trend of traffic collisions involving bicyclists across the state and throughout the country spurred lawmakers to introduce new bike laws in California.

One thing that motorists don't realize is that broken glass, nails/ screws, sharp objects, etc on the side of the road will puncture a tire. Sometimes it's necessary to hog the lane in order to avoid a blowout.

Bikers are way too reckless in Encinitas , e-bikes worse. They need to use their huge bike lanes vs going into the road without looking. Need ebike regulations it’s way too crazy, kids flying through stop signs all the time near d st and moonlight

Those huge lanes are pretty small, compared to a bike. And you're thinking of e-mopeds, not e-bikes.

@@raulingaverage no I’m not , I’m thinking of e-bikes flying through stop signs or suddenly veering into the road. I lived adjacent to d st from 2019-2022 and saw it first hand daily. Cyclists know what they’re doing and tend to follow rules of road fine, is recent years things have got much worse despite way more bike lakes and clear signs and entire lane of road for bikes. I’m a big fan of bikes vs cars , just don’t want to hit and kill someone’s accidentally who flies through a stop sign or veers into a highway lane suddenly without signaling

I will say cyclists who blow through stop signs without looking are asking for an accident someday. But also to be honest. In a lot of neighborhoods (around me) you can see if anybody coming from stopping distance so you're good as long as you pay attention. I think if more cyclists were more aware and motorists were more confident in thir deisicions (ie not getting spooked at somebody not anywhere near them) all would he harmonious

So much concern for a bicycle going fast yet cars, trucks and buses go much faster down the same street and can kill with immunity.

It would also be good if cyclists realized that there isn't an invisible force field around them, and to proceed with caution - rather than a "F**k you, I have the same rights as your 2-ton Chevy" attitude. They run stop lights, ride on the wrong side of the road, and swerve into the one tiny little lane that has been preserved for motorists. The most important laws that everyone on the road needs to be aware of are the laws of physics. I'd like to see more cyclists pulled over and ticketed for reckless cycling.

I do wish more fellow cyclists would think this way too. I do some dumb shit but I do dumb stuff safely. If I don't absolutely know I can make a move to save some time I won't. Not worth fighting with a multiple ton hunk of metal

Hey, In Arizona the 2-ton CHevys run lights, speed, tailgate, and buzz cyclists too often. Yes, lots of cyclists do dumb stuff, cars do dumb stuff, people do dumb stuff.

I’ve always hated the way bicycles rode on the 101 they take up the whole fucking lane when there’s plenty of room and refuse to ride next to the gutter or ride side by side other bikes fucking hate em

Driver's that get too close to me always get their mirrors broken off.
