Not sure why some are missing the banner text in the video about some notes sounding out - but have put a comment in the written review now to explain which reads.. NOTE!! FOR THOSE WHO MISSED THE MESSAGE ON THE VIDEO - Yes - some strings sound out in part of the recording - I have checked the intonation all over the neck with a strobe tuner and it is dead on - what you are hearing are strings stretching a bit during play as it's brand new. I only have limited time to record videos and apologise for that as had to process and upload or risk missing my window - but it's NOT a setup issue
I got a flight voyager recency which had a very slight buzz, but posted it back to the boys at SUS who sorted it. Good lads... Perks of buying from a proper store with people who know their stuff. Cheers for the vids.
Hi Baz, so glad you have reviewed this. I also struggle with the bridge pin colours. Probably cost saving from the Fireball sets. Love how the headstock symbol is blue. I also would prefer no sound hole decor. All that equip and solid wood with a cutaway. Think there priced to sell. Shame about the buzzing. I would like one without the pickup. Great review as always. Made me smile.
I love the sound! If it had a wider nut and an acoustic option I’d buy it today. I’d change the pins right off….makes me wonder if they had left overs from the Fireball…
Cloth! Plus it was a very very warm day when I recorded this - no doubt hands were a bit sweaty / oily. But ultimately - glossy black uke - always going to attract prints
Like some of the others I am not crazy about the blue I would have liked the brown color binding wood on the front of the headstock. I really like the sound as well in fact it is almost to jangly for a concert. The price is about right on this one. Flight is making some nice instruments in all price ranges and I kind of like their plan colored natural wood ukuleles. I choose to play my mahogany soprano most of the time so I lean toward higher jangly sounds. I also do have a Luna Sahara spruce concert that is also jangly and well set up for tone and sound, but for me concert is as big as it gets. Thanks for another interesting review… DOC
Looks like a great ukulele I interested I. Getting a tenor version. I just wondered how you fit a button strap as the pick up seems to be in the place where you would put a button strap ?
Thanks a million for the reviews. I'm in the market for a concet uke, and I was hesitating between this one or the Peter Moss Signature series. Any insight? (Or another similar uke I should look at?). Thanks again !
@@GotAUkulele Thanks a million, not a huge fan of the blue tortoise cutaway, but not fan of paying more just for a signature series (not familiar with the man himself but sure he's a great bloke)
I like the red pins on the Fireball a lot - not sure they work here though. Yep buzzes can be easy to fix, but no way they should have sent it to me like that!
Hi Baz! I can hear the highs coming through very clearly, but not the lows. I have had some trouble with my ears this week…..or is it the UA-cam compression? It does sound pretty. Sadly, the appearance doesn’t do it for me, I rather like seeing the characteristics of the wood. The blue binding is cool, though. It seems that lots of companies are imitating Kanilea with those pin bridges, which I don’t think fit on ukuleles. Guitars? Yes. I bet though, that at this price, which made me drop my jaw, this model will fly off the shelves. I feel a bit naive, never heard of a double pickup…..
Certainly a bright tone (concert with spruce, was always going to be) but could be YT compression. I can tell when something has no lows, but there is a roundness to it. Personally I love pin bridges (but you know that already!!) Double is the name of the pickup brand
I only ever plug them in if they are solid body - reason being - it's just a microphone recording of an amplifier - the sound people will get will very much depend on their amp setup so it will vary. I will always say in the review though if the pickup is no good. If I don't mention it you can assume it works ok (which it does)
Baz…can you have a pickup removed? I just don’t like them….no matter whether the controls are inside the sound hole or outside on the body. They don’t look good and it seems like they’d eventually rattle. (I don’t perform onstage so my opinions are just for personal use or small venues.) Thanks as always for your unbiased reviews. 😊
Yes, of course, but what you are left with depends on the nature of the pickup. With an under saddle passive all you need to do is remove the saddle strip and cut the wire to the end jack. The end jack often serves as a strap button, so no issue leaving it. The more difficult is if you have a control panel on the side as you are either leaving that there doing nothing or taking it out and leaving a great hole in the uke!! The ones inside the sound hole are easily peeled off as they are only attached with double side tape.
Personally not crazy about the blue. And I wish Flight offered these without pickup. The only pickups I care for are K&K Aloha Twin (played with EQ pedals) and Mi-Si Acoustic Trio (ditto). The pickups offered by most makers are, IMHO, aimed at newcomers to amplification.
The black & blue is pretty ! You said that you prefer no pick up installed ? Are your favorite ukuleles plain acoustic ? How do you perform or record with them ? Special mic 🎤 ? Thank you 💓
What I mean is - I don't favour pre-installed pickups and prefer to choose my own - active systems like this are usually done on a budget and add extra weight and wiring that simply isn't necessary. When I used to gig I used a passive pickup that was simply a case of one wire from the pickup to the jack socket and nothing else. Much more natural tone, minimal extra weight and much less to go wrong. Most if not all professional uke performers I know use the same basic pickups. More reliable.
@@GotAUkulele Ah, okay 👍 Thank You for the clarification. I have a Cordoba Tenor and a nice Acacia Kala Baritone - they both need pick ups then. I have an antique Lakeside parlour guitar with a K&K mini western installed, same in my little Martin. But I have classical guitar friends who frown on pick ups in their illustrious instruments. English being more ukulele connoisseurs, I wondered if they'd think that way.
I just lost one of my prejudices! Painted ukuleles? A big No! But this little sucker is gorgeous!!! The sound of it was a harmony in my ears. Thanks for a good review!! ❤
That's an impossible question to answer - SO many of them out there - and 'best' is subjective. Certainly would look at brands like Kiwaya, Kai and Uma though
Oh - absolutely will improve - it's just some strings do it more than others on reviews (or take longer to settle). Some more than others because fretted tuning is not a perfect thing - it's called 'tempered tuning' - so only really an approximation of as close as can be to perfect. So you'll find some note combinations are worse than others.
@@GotAUkulele Thanks for the replies. I enjoy your reviews. I purchased Anuenue color ukuleles for my granddaughters after watching several reviews. And the solid mahogany Hawaiian Dream concert, based on how much you like the company. I'm very much a beginner (just taking UA-cam lessons from Bernadette), but enjoying the experience. If I ever get good at this thing, would love a Moon Bird.
Not sure price is the issue just because of buzzing. A £30 uke can buzz, so can a £3,000 uke. The issue is indeed QC as you say, but bought from a specialist uke dealer (and many of them carry Flight) would not see you get one in this shape.
I bought this a month or more ago and it’s my favorite uke now. It has such great sound and feel!
Great to hear!
