I worked for Littlewoods for 45 years going from post boy to director,now retired in Thailand.I have seen so may false dawns for this building.Do you know the original purpose of it>It is art Deco so I assume 1920s?
Its was built for Littlewoods in 1938. It was requisitioned during WWII, first for a postal censorship facility, and then to build floors for Halifax bombers. After the war it was returned to Littlewoods and was in use until 1994. You can read more about the current 'dawn' on Wikipedia.
They're only making this building safe at the moment, getting it ready for redevelopment. Once they've done that, two sound stages will then be built before work moves on to the main buildings.
Still an awful lot of those corrugated asbestos cement roofing panels to remove. Some intact and others in bits due to the fire.... a huge and super costly job
