I have to say I really enjoyed this video, being in the knife business and hearing this story of your growth is inspiring. I want to thank you for sharing this. I completely understand how you feel, I'm going through the same thing with Dawson Knives but we are just starting to hit that exponential growth. Its the figuring out everything about business that can consume you. Im a 37 year old guy married for 17 years family man that is a huge fan of you guys. Keep it up and God Bless you all! Your channel is better then TV hands down!
John Grimsmo is a HUGE reason why I wanted to get into knife making. I remember wanting to learn how to anodize titanium and came across him anodizing BM 42s and BM51s. His knife making series is why I believe even I could become a knife maker. He showed that you can start from the absolute bottom, and still come out on top in the industry. And now I'm studying to be a machinist as well because John showed that industry to me and it became my passion. Soon I'll be a certified machinist, and I'll be able to use that knowledge to make the best knives I can make. All thanks to Grimsmo Knives.
What an excellent story, and well told. I have learned a lot from you. The changeover from being a “car guy“ to a manufacturing guy is the kind of thing that is hard to realize you need to do, redefining yourself. Also, working on your business in addition to working in your business has been a good lesson.
John, thanks for sharing! My brothers and I have been following your channel for the last 4 years. We've been inspired by what you do and how far you and your team have come. Keep up the awesome work and content! :)
Wow. That really takes me back. I remember when you sold the grizzly It was like loosing a member of my family that I had grown up around. Anyway. Good times. So stoked for you. I don't know if it's possible, but I would love to hear this same story from Erik's perspective.
That's awesome you've been watching so long! And a video with Erik's story would be cool. There is a 3 minute part of our hiring video where Erik talks about where he worked before Grimsmo Knives. Maybe that will hold you over for now? ua-cam.com/video/lKl-D_F3Je0/v-deo.html
The part you're in right now, building the business, seems to be where a lot of entrepreneurs fail. They know how to do the business but don't seem to know how to run a business. Keep going. Would love to see where you wind up. Take care.
very inspiring, you ,saunders are titan true hero and inspiration for who so ever wants to pursue their machinist/maker dream, Perhaps one day we will realize you, saunders, titan , abom79, Joe Pieczynski, mrpete, bcbloc, oxtool, james kilroy keith, shadon, jimmy d, cris, alex, ray etc have created more machinist and makers who started from home and contributing to us trade as much from schools! .
