That has got to be one of the absolute coolest engraving and anodizing jobs I've ever seen! The colors, the textures, the perfectionism... Even when it was just blue and "ice" it looked amazing!
I totally agree with the decision to keep remilling it until that line went away... Although small, it was quite eye-catching. Nice troubleshooting, Brad Southard!
(I don't know how many times I've forgotten to turn on the air... And, thank you for using and showing the ol' CRACE again!)
Man that line would drive me crazy, but is also unreal as it's a real life 3D illusion. Now that you know what caused it... I wonder if you could do some kinda 3D multi-pattern design that is revealed when moved. Probably too much mucking around. Stoked for you that you got to work it out.
The final result is EPIC.
Best looking Grimsmo yet.
I would seriously come to blade show just to purchase this. Way to keep things amazing John! Team Grimsmo does not disappoint!
John dont you just LOVE its always the simplest things in life we always over look that give us the most greif? Great vid
She’s beautiful. Thank you Grimsmo Knives!
Sincerely,
America
I think the American market was already excited about your knives lol! Amazing work, awesome to watch the process
I'm working by myself today. But I did high five myself. Best looking knife I have seen in months. Cheers from California
Great video maybe the problem line could be used on a later project as a unique feature
Man you did that the most difficult way possible but it turned out nice so that’s what matters in the end. Nice job!
Very cool handles. America thanks you! Great video and explanations
That's amazing guys, nice job! Best episode in a long time guys!
That is a really nice of you guys to do that!!! Also commemorates 75 years since D-day. See you at Blade.
That just looks incredible!! I'm always amazed by how you can progressively engrave & color titanium to get different colours on the same part. I hate to say it, but cutting direction was the first thing that came to mind when I saw that line! I had exactly the same problem a while ago when machining a wavy Guilloche-style pattern - successive cuts went in different directions and it looked terrible. Made them all cut the same way and it was perfect.
Epic knife. Well worth all the extra work to make it perfect. I hate to say I'm not crazy about the clip though.
Total clash.
Very nice, you guys have become an awesome team☺
This is awesome John! I love your channel! simotanious 5 axis training tomorrow!! so flippin excited!! just thought I'd share haha.
More of these "come along" videos please. They are really enjoyable!
That would have to go strait to the gun safe only to be brought out on special occasions. Awesome guys.
Be sure to video record the auction. I would bet that goes over $5K! Maybe even $10K!!!
Awesome work! That’s going to be some lucky owner’s grail knife.
Love it man! Awesome.
Yes I knew it was the software I use autocad and 3d modeling software, awesome you figured it out, I was going to recommend it to you. beautiful design and knife as always
Man those R coming out pisssah!! Great work:)
Really nice 🇺🇸 wish I could be at Blade!! Congratulations! 🙌🏻
wasnt expecting the cleetus quote toward the end.
Two words, Bad Ass!
Great job! To be honest the clip does not look right. It's amazing on its own,but everything else is so "geometric". You could mill one plain and engrave on it the pen used to sign the declaration of independence.
Agreed. The clip doesn't look right at all.
“ Freedom “ Made in Canada
Very nice as usual
🇺🇸
Well, how about a birthday gift? My birthday is July 4th. Please...
Seriously though that is a sweet looking knife and I hope that the person who gets to own it enjoys the knife for a very long time. Great job!
This was awesome! It would be pretty funny if someone who isn't american ended up with the knife.
Chemical polish would make the micro structure of the surface event.
@32:04 just listen... you hear that sound you instantly know theres a grimsmo norseman near by. unmistakable
I was wondering how you were going to put a price on Freedom... An auction: perfect!
That's so US!
Attention to detail at its best, well done. It’s a shame your flick knives are illegal in the 🇬🇧 otherwise I’d buy one.
If you figure out what caused the line you might do it on purpose. There are minted coins that use this effect to create "holographic" images (2 or 3 per side) on the coins
Murica!!
Wicked knife!
Do you have video on how the auction went?
Hi John... I find it amazing how you can machine a part...take it out and off the fixture only to put it back on the fixture to be machined again to take the smallest amount off to fix a problem. Your ability to relocate the part to re-machine the cross hatch pattern is incredible...how do you relocate so accurately?...Also do you dial in the 1/32 ball endmill to run concentric or just run it as installed in the holder/collet?... also what RPM do you run it at?
Damn those turned out nice
A datron seems like it would be the machine for that style of work?
Hey John,
. Do you always use those ball mills to engrave? And if so why the ball millls? do you get better tool life, better finish, less burrs?
Holy Santa Clause shit! Looks amazing. You guys have the best jobs on earth hahaha
When I have a flaw like that I was taught in my German apprenticeship to run again with no coolant.
🤔 Y not add the air-assist wiping concept to the main window (so you can still see inside)? If not, find a way to mount the gopro near the spindle for closer view point.
If you dont have a requirement for color distinction in the viewing, try using a camera with the ir filter removed (or an actual ir camera like a trail cam) coolant changes how it looks under the ir spectrum (many liquids and emulsions look clear) that might help.
I want this so bad!!!
Flame anodized titanium is straight sexy! Hi from MA
Sweet!! Wonder how many hours in the Mori each knife takes.
@JohnGrimsmo how come you don't make a bluing tray for heat anodizing? 🤔
it's just tray full of metal shavings that you heat from underneath and the metal shavings spreads the heat out evenly and slowly. check out the Clickspring channel, he's where I saw it.
Hi, I'm not sure what recording software you use, but I've noticed that it doesn't record the left side of the screen in Fusion (EDIT: like the tree). I have the same thing when I let OBS record Fusion as a program, but you can actually let it record everything by having it record the entire screen (I think it's called desktop or something... can't access it right now as my desk is under construction and the PC is in a box).
Great videos by the way, always love to learn from what Fusion can do, thanks for showing!
10 Redcoats disliked this video.
Looks nice, why couldn't you anadise it red? The bronze looks good but red would have been better.
There is no red in the Titanium anodizing spectrum. So we did the closest we could.
@@ErikGrimsmo Call me Cpt. Obvious but you guys really are artists. Amazing work!
Yeah, the clip doesn't go with the scales at all, unfortunately. An ice blue clip with "1776" engraved in some fancy, old school cursive would be sooooo much more fitting I think.
Southard is a genius
Great knife and build but the clip clashes and detracts from the beautiful scales. IMO.
where did the RUN CNC sticker come from? I tried searching for it and can't find it anywhere.
IIRC fifthaxis.com
How are you anodizing only certain parts of it without changing the entire thing?
EDIT: NVM I found it out
USA! USA! USA!
I feel the clip was a little bit off theme for the knife. Alone it looks great but it did not contribute to the thematic design of the rest of the knife.
do you guys ship to Australia
One-hand opening knives aren't legal here, I've heard of customs confiscating them on the way in
Also you spend hundreds of thousands on machines for finishes and perfection and still use fusion for engraving/visual work? Upgrade to Carveco or Vectric and REALLY see a dramatic increase in ease, and finish quality on your details. Fusion makes intense logo/detail work way to hard and manual. There’s virtually nothing in the software to make those things easy on the programmer.
I call dibs on Norseman #6969
Now that's funny!
It's not a bug... It's a feature.
Murica
did you save 1876 also?
We're bad Canadians who grew up in the states.
do 2017 for the 150 years of canada then
The 13 stars in a circle just makes me think the EU 12 star flag... That 1 star is the difference between freedom and authoritarianism
What's America?
The clip just didn't look right to me on it
The ring of stars on blue makes me think of the EU. Unfortunately I don't like the EU 😜
This is a terror nife man, open your eye's
I’m not feeling the timascus. It distracts from the flag. I’d rather you had continued the stripes onto the belt clip.
Lol have never used replace on control and own your own shop... make a video once you learn it
Dont get me wrong I think my flag is beautiful but that knife is hideous.
You should keep the template for that flag and make a blue lives matter version where you keep one of those stripes blue. Would sell like pancakes.
Made in Canada....... cool design but it is still Blasphemy. Like buying an American flag made in China.
Like a Statue of Liberty made in France....oh wait.
@@fifty1fifty fair point
Imagine thinking Americans are free
Imagine trying to start political bullshit on a knifemaking channel.
@@Aletaire I'll go crawl back into my cave. Apologies sir.
Dont get me wrong I think my flag is beautiful but that knife is hideous.
