Woodturning - The Purple Piece
Вставка
- Опубліковано 27 вер 2024
- In this video I needed to make a purple bowl with highlights of black onyx. I use oak for the base then mix Black Diamond Purple Haze and Black Onyx to make a pretty cool visual. It looks like the purple is fire with the black as burnt background.

Thanks. I am working on a few projects that are stretching my skills and patience. Not sure when or if they will get done. lol It took me a month to get this one done.
Wow 👏 😮 Absolutely 💯% beautiful bowl Ken. Purple & black are my 2 favorite colors....so basically this bowl was made for me 😊 and the wood was magnificent also Ken! Great project!
Haha, you would have to fight my buddy's wife for it. Se has been begging for one for months now.
@@MoonpieCreations
Ok...lol 😆...this one can be your ladies bc she has to put up with your daily shenanigans....lol...but the next one is mine 😉 👍🏻
The purple is so gorgeous. This is a really good project, and it turned out spectacular. But that purple/black looks unreal. I would be very proud to tell everyone that Ken at MPC made this beautiful bowl.
Thank you. It is for a friends wife. She should get it today. These are my favorite colors to work with.
@@MoonpieCreations

I feel the same. Unfortunately some are not as cultured as us.
Awesome, I love the colour's Nick 👍

Turned out nice. Love how you do the black and purple swirl. Almost a midnight purple look until you get closer and see it's a swirl.
I love the way the Purple Haze and Onyx react

Thank you so much 😀Check out the shelf in back of my lathe. lol
Beautiful bowl. I love the colors. From the bark, that looks like black oak.
Thanks. It is a nice oak. Not even sure where it came from.
Maybe you should get a pet beaver and train it to debark for you. Just a thought. Good work as always. 👍
Hahahahaha, then I can put the Sexy Time Music on and you guys can say "Hey, nice Beaver!" 😂😂😂 Love it!
@@MoonpieCreations 👍😁

Thank you Willow. The purple pieces are some of my favorite.
Very nice
Thanks
What a sumptuous piece, Stunning :)
Using big words like that tends to confuse me. I'm a simple country boy you know. 😂❤😂 BTW I did have to look it up.
That turned out really pretty, Ken!
Thanks again Billy
So very beautiful! Excellent work.
Thank you
That is a beautiful bowl! Great job as usual!
Thank you so much 😀
Nice, 😉👍
Thanks Franklin
That is beautiful, the colors are perfect.
Thank you Rebecca
Oh man, that is so beautiful 😍💜
I appreciate that.
Thought song could have been Purple Rain. Very nice Ken!
Haha, that would be fun. Prince, Beatles and Elvis songs do two things on UA-cam. 1. They get you a copyright strike. 2. Your video moves into the darkness, never to be seen by anyone. lol
That sho nuf is a purdy peece sir!
Thank you partner
Sweet color!
Thanks Dan. These are my favorite to do.
I really like that one.
Thank you.
Very nice!!!❤😎👍👍👍
Thanks.
A very nice bowl. I’m trying to get back into turning due to illness. You are very interesting to watch. See ya next time.
Thanks Richard. Sometimes it takes a bit of motivation to get back at it. Good luck.
One day, when I buy one of your projects, it will have these colors. G’job!
❤
Nice colors
Thanks
Love it
Thank you
Great result! the color of the wood and the purple is really nice. I hate when the drill bit falls out behind the lathe!
Haha, I was wondering if someone will notice. lol
The colors are great, Where did my sticker go ?
Well, what happened was.......well let's just say I'm a klutz and I spilt black dye on it and then it caught fire. lol. I have another around the shop somewhere, but can't find it right now.
Great job!! Love the colors and sound effects too.
Thank you
#😎👍NICE !!! 💯%

Ya got a wiene... err. Winner there amigo. Two of my favorite colors. Well done sir! You talk too much in this one..😜🤣
😂😂😂😂 Thank you?

Question for you, Just got into turning and watch your YT constantly enjoy your antics. Anyhow just made a resin with pine cone vase and being new and stupid forgot to place a wood block in it to cut a tenon. My question is can I glue a wood block to the resin to hold it in the chuck while I carve out the center and if so what should I use as an adhesive so it won't go flying off into the atmosphere killing all in its path. Thanks
Hey David, thanks for reaching out via email. Let me know how it goes.
Very nice. I have a question. From the resin specifications, the casting layer is small (Maximum pour depth per layer: 2:1 Slow Hardener - 1/4", up to 75°F, for larger pours, slabs;) and the bowl is at least 3 inches. How does it harden so thick?
So the thickness has nothing to do with it hardening. But the larger amount you pour the quicker it hardens. lol So this type of resin hardens through a chemical reaction that causes heat. If you pour more than you should the resin will heat up extremely fast and hot. This will cause the resin to cure very fast , which causes the resin to retract. This causes the resin to crack. You can see what happens when you pour to much here. ua-cam.com/video/AoW2F5tJKlo/v-deo.html
Thank you for the answer👍
Really nice bowl, Ken. The color effect is great. Why so quiet?
Bill
I’m dying from the pollen in the air. Sick as a dog.
@@MoonpieCreations I certainly hope you feel better soon.
@@williamellis8993 I think I will if I can just find some down time. Got a lot going on at work. Ain't got time to breath. lol
Do you have to sharpen your forstner bit? I ordered one from the link in your Amazon list and it was dull as all get out. Even drilling a 2" hole then widening with the 75mm (3") was useless. It just made noise and got hot.
Out of the package? I would send it back. The ones I got are very sharp. I only have to sharpen after coring out about 30 or so bowls.
P.S. Remember you are talking a very cheap forstner bit, their quality standards are not like Freud or Whiteside. But they should not be dull outside the package.
Are you the turner who used to start every video sharpening his 3/8 bowl gouge? If not do you know who that was ?
No not me. Not sure I’ve seen that sorry.
Gorgeous!
(P.S. I won't admit to seeing any 70s pornos, either! ... It was actually my boyfriend at the time. 😇 Yes, I'm that old.)

And this is the reason why I started watching your videos 3 years ago 👍
Thank you for sticking with me. I have some pretty cool things I am trying in the pipeline.
Nice color combo!
Thank you
I was hoping that you would leave it footed, otherwise I love it.
That is a cool thing to do. I have never tried it. Maybe in an upcoming project I will try it. Thanks for the idea.
@@MoonpieCreations Was thinking how cool that was looking with the foot on it and no one is doing footed bowls anymore. Your videos are among my favorites.
This is a very pretty epoxy plate. I am learning a lot! 👍👍
Thanks so much 😊
That resin separation is perfect. Amazing looking bowl.
Thank you very much!
Great colors Ken
Thanks 👍
That purple combo is exquisite. When I saw your color choice, I heard, “Smoke On The Water” in my head. Kind of appropriate, I think?
Love that!
Beautiful! I love the color you made with the purple and black. Just gorgeous!
Thank you. They are my favorite colors to work with
The grain is amazing and the purple Haze turned out really good. I absolutely love this piece.
