All I can imagine is that it's a school where they see beginners maybe twice a week for 30 minutes. Perhaps with everybody in the same class, making it really hard to teach individual instruments and give them the skills needed by the first Christmas concert.

Edit: GUYS, the kid murdering the bass drum is supposed to be playing that loud. I agree that he shouldn’t be playing that high into a small bass drum, but we don’t know if the school even has enough money to buy a mallet hard enough to sound like a cannon. Even if that general bass drum mallet is all that they have, at least he’s trying to make it sound like a cannon. It still produces a big booming sound from the lamb skin.

I think they were trying to simulate canons going off which is how it originally was performed.. Its Tchaikovsky's 1812 overture... Wikipedia reminds me it was written to commemorate Russia's defense against Napolean.

For people who don't know the last one was shown on a news report. If you look at after the instrument fell off his hand, in his right hand you can clearly see that the instrument broke off the handle holder.

Well maybe they should have practiced. It's their own fault they are that bad, I don't have any remorse for them when it is clear they put absolutely no effort into their performance.
@@piecrumbs9951 well, they may have practiced individually and be great there, but if they don't pracice as a unit, then this happens. That's not the fault of the students, but the one coordinating it, he/she failed them.
@@sadeva6532 If that were the problem then they wouldn't sound so horribly out of tune. It is possible that the teacher is also at fault but it is clear that these students put no effort into practicing.

Nah, not really. There are cymbals in the back waiting to be used, and he could use the one that survived, hold it leveled and also hit it with stick (also laying close to him on the floor - or borrowing one from the bass drum player, who apparently only needs one right now).

That last cymbal fail was priceless. When I played the cymbals in my high school band, I knocked them of a stand during our concert performance for our parents and staff on stage. It happened during a quiet passage of music. All of a sudden, CRASH! Nothing like large cymbals hitting a wood floor to get attention.

Don't be sorry, I'm a respected member of a high school band and I've never seen anyone hitting the bass drum with so much autism, I play the clarinet but I know many percussion, that kid doesn't respect the instrument, he abuses it. He should be ashamed for taking the responsibility.

1812 Overture is a difficult song, yes. However, that arrangement is a lot easier than you might think. I played that version last year and seriously though, it wasn’t even that difficult. The only issue with my band was that the quality of the brass section was little under the bar, if you know what I mean. The arrangement is basically just the same iconic part over and over again. It barely sounds like the actual song and the iconic part is probably the only part of the song ever actually featured in the original. Maybe i missed something, it’s been a while since I listened to the original song, but that’s what I think at least.

Literally today we were rehearsing hammer and forge and when i played the first E flat on the chimes the note literally just collapsed, i didnt even hit it all too hard to begin with lol, im so glad it wasnt at the actual concert

That drummer in #2, he tried his best even though he was really sick . . . wouldn't call that a "fail".

Most of them, with only one day of rehearsal (the last rehearsal). The result? It is horrifying.

An old classic gospel song
It's got the same tune with that the "I've been workin in the railroad" song but I clearly recognize it as the gospel "What a friend we have in jesus" with a slower tempo. I deduced it as a gospel song because 1. It is christmas and christian/gospel music will be played throughout the whole season (especially in churches) and 2. It has got the same tune with the gospel music I just mentioned but with a slower tempo. Almost not recognizable (coz well what a fail) but its got hints

I was sufficiently intrigued by your comments that I checked hymnary.org to see if any publisher has paired the text of "What a friend we have in Jesus" with the tune of "I've been workin' on the railroad" and it looks like no one has. Conventionally they would be considered incompatible because the meter (number of syllables in each line) doesn't match. I think the teacher just missed the point of a CHRISTMAS concert! LOL
