JOE BURROW'S STORY: HOLLYWOOD'S HEISMAN

  • No, Joe Burrow isn’t from Hollywood. But, his story belongs there. Everyone knows him now. He’s won the Heisman, he’s about to play for a national championship and he’s the projected number one pick in just about any mock draft you can get your hands on. But, it was only a few years ago when Burrow was "borrowed" away on the depth chart as a third stringer. Where did he come from and how did he get to this point?

    I am a Saints/LSU fan, but where ever Joe Burreaux goes I will proudly support him and the team he is with. Joe inspired many people across the country, from his smack talk during the games, to his humble demeanor at his acceptance speech, he is truly the type of athlete you want on your team. A warrior for 60 mins and a professional with class outside the gridiron. Joey Burreaux is a LSU legend and I am glad that his hometown adopted the tigers and their star QB. What a great football movie in the making from a story that should inspire millions.

    What a story. Mr. Football in Ohio, goes to OSU, gets his hand broke, drops down the depth chart, transfers to LSU, deals with the offensive growing pains season one, rewrites the quarterback record books season two, wins the Heisman, the Natty...pretty much has the #1 pick locked up. All that journey just to end up where? That's right, back home in Ohio.

      As a lifelong LSU fan right here in Baton Rouge I noticed the cycle of it all. Seems quite natural he should find his way back to Ohio. Of course he does. Things work that way for Joe. As a high school O-Lineman, that was the most heart warming opening line to a speech I’ve ever heard. As a lineman and as a lot of my friends being lineman, I know a lot of lineman don’t wake up one day and say “I wanna be a lineman,” I was a running back before and we had a shortage on lineman so my coach gave me those dreading words, “hey we need you to help us out on the line,” and ever since then I’ve been a lineman playing every position in the line from tight end all the way down to center. And center is by far the hardest position on the line.

    • @torbyneakins3706
      @torbyneakins3706 4 роки тому +1

      Buddy Buddy I totally agree. I’ve been o line almost my entire life, and I’m currently a tight end. But whenever my dad comes to me or my brother’s games, and a big play happens, he yells “GREAT WORK LINE!” Which I think is awesome because those guards centers and tackles get little to no credit, honestly, when they are most of the reason that big play happened.

    • @buddybuddy7410
      @buddybuddy7410 4 роки тому

      Torbyn Eakins, yea man for us lineman we really don’t get credit, the only time we get our name called is when we do something wrong, one of my coaches called it “The Trenches” because it really down and dirty on the line, I’ve been in legitimate fights on the line and the refs can’t see it. But I love being a lineman and sometimes I want to go back to being a full back but idk if that’ll ever happen

      Oh god yes center is difficult. You're responsible for more than just blocking. You need to call out the adjustments and ensure everyone else is on the same page. Along with that, it's more difficult than ppl expect to snap the ball and then make the block. I wasnt the quickest, but center is a more cerebral position than other positions that I thought tackle was easier, despite it requiring more athleticism

    The first great college team I ever saw was Nebraska when Tommie Frazier was running that unstoppable option attack. Now that I've dated myself I can say I've never seen a college quarterback have a more dominant season. His accuracy, decision making and complete control of the offense was stunning. Back shoulder throws, across his body, on the run, standing tall in the pocket, he made all the throws. He didn't just get the ball there, he often put it in the only place he could in a super narrow window. Always with his eyes down the field, taking shots when they're there and taking what he can when they're not. He was incredibly tough to bring down even when the defense brought pressure and got their hands on him. Super underrated atheletically and made plenty of big plays with his feet when they were needed. Broke the passing TD record, the total TD record, 1,035 total yards in the 2 game playoff, SEC passing yards season record. Beat 7 top 10 teams and all 4 of the preseason top 4 who were ranked ahead of LSU. Cam Newton had a great single season. Tim Tebow had a pretty dominant run at Florida. Andrew Luck put up some big numbers. Think about this for a minute, Peyton Manning in his senior year threw for 3800 yards and 36 TDs and 11 picks. Joe goes for over 5,000, 60 TDs (plus 5 on the ground) and completes at a 17% higher percentage despite throwing more often. It was such a pleasure to watch him play this year and I'd love to see one more year out of him. Unfortunately this one magical run is all we LSU fans get. We've been playing for so long without a quarterback and still consistently top 10 and winning bowls. Fortunately showcasing this type of offensive system will attract a different level of QB recruit now that they can better showcase their abilities in a modern offense. Get ready for Myles Brennan next year. Another really accurate pro style QB that has been patiently waiting his turn. Ja'Marr Chase and Terrace Marshall will be back next year, accounting for over 30 TDs between them.

    I watched Burrow very closely at OSU, Why Meyer never started him was always a mystery. His spring game performances were all spectacular! He clearly outplayed Haskins, yet Meyer would not name him the starter, instead he said he wasn't ready to make a decision. Very odd. Although I have always thought Meyer was an outstanding coach, he has a history of not recognizing qb talent. God bless Joe Burrow, possibly the greatest college qb ever!! Good luck!

      Most of the players at Ohio State felt the same way. I never felt like Burrow had a real chance. One thing for sure is that Ohio State is no longer loyal to Ohio athletes.

    Additional details:
    As I have heard the story, Burrow planned to go to Nebraska (his entire family had played there), but they didn't offer him a scholarship and that's how he got to Ohio State. This has to be one of the most monumental blunders by any coaching staff, at any time in the history of college football.
    I strongly suspect that Urban Mayer (Ohio state's coach at the time) never had any intention of starting Burrow. They offered him a scholarship just to keep him off the market. Mayer only uses quarterbacks that are running backs first and passers second: that is his formula. He has a formula and he just plugs new people into his system as the older guys graduate. Cardale Jones was in the same situation a few years ago. If not for an injury at just the right moment, No one would have ever heard of Cardale Jones. The guy came off the bench for the last couple of games of his senior season in 2014, and looked awesome while leading the Buckeyes to the national championship. This hiding of talent so your competitors won't have the oppurtunity to beat you with the guy is a really filthy part of college football. I am glad they changed the rules to allow the players to transfer.
    Burrow did not use the new transfer rule as he graduated in 3 years. He was a "free agent" who could go play his 2 remaining years anywhere he liked. Joe missed spring practice in Baton Rouge in 2018 because he was still at Ohio State trying to graduate. College football has strict rules for how much practice time is allowed. The double sessions in August last a very short time and Joe simply didn't have time to work out the choreography with his receivers in 2018. You will hear about the revamped offense often, but LSU tried to do a similar thing last year. It didn't work (you can go watch the tape of the 2018 game vs Auburn to see what I mean) and they had to simplify the offense after the first couple of games.
    I will give this video quite a bit of credit for noticing that Burrow didn't really "lose" the starting job at Ohio State as much as he was just kinda pushed aside.

    • @drbseger
      @drbseger 4 роки тому

      Your argument is flawed. You state 'Mayer only uses quarterbacks that are running backs first and passers second: ' Burrows was an infinitely better runner than Dwayne Haskins was. As the video stated, Burrows broken hand is the only thing that got him dropped from the #2 guy. Its not like Dwayne Haskins was bad either, he did get drafted in the 1st round as a Junior.

      The difference between Burrow and Haskins was that Haskins was from New Jersey and Meyer was concerned about his recruiting contacts in NJ if he picked Burrow. Recruiting is a complicated game.

      @@jamessveinsson6006 Shades of Jim Plunkett who was drafted No. 1 by the Patriots after a stellar collegiate career at Stanford capped with the 1970 Heisman Trophy. The Pats O-line sucked big time and Plunkett spent a lot of his time in New England being pounded into the ground and looking out through the earholes on his helmet. Naturally he was considered another Heisman bust when in reality his supporting cast sucked the big meatpole. Vindication came later with the Raiders and TWO Super Bowl titles. Plus Plunkett's personal backstory is much more compelling than Burrows'. Joe Burrow should pull an Elway and tell the Bengals that he will not sign if they draft him.

    I've known about Joe Burrow ever since the State Finals shootout with Toledo Central Catholic. I'm old school in the fact that I want my QB to be a drop-back passer and not a runner. When Joe went to The OSU I was so excited but knew he would struggle under Urban Meyer and his Tim Tebow running QB offense. Watching JT Barrett for the Buckeyes was killing me, even though he had success, because I wanted to see Burrow throwing the ball. I am happy that Joe Burrow got to go somewhere and let his talent shine. Good on him and everyone that "knew him when" knew he had it in him. I might be switching to a Bengals fan here in a couple months because I can't watch the Browns any more. Congratulations Joe!

      erie sniper I watched that state championship game on TV and Joe already looked like a QB that could be calling the shots for a top 10 team. His whole team was amazing to watch that year and it was heartbreaking when they lost.

    • @njebei
      @njebei 4 роки тому +2

      That state championship game his senior year was one of the best I've ever seen. Joe put the team on his back and nearly carried them to a win. It's a shame he got hurt at the start of his redshirt sophomore season as he was clearly ahead of Haskins at that point. The time off meant he didn't get the starts and it was too much to overcome by the time he got healthy. I've also thought Joe would have been much better running Urban's offense since he actually could run the ball vs. Dwayne's immobility. Dwayne always had a stronger arm but you could always see Joe was more accurate, had the better touch, and could read defenses better. Now Haskins has much less experience than Burrow which I think really hurt him this year with the Redskins. I wish more college QBs realized they only get 1-2 years to prove themselves in the NFL and it is better to take all the snaps you can get in college. I'm sure the extra time will serve Joe well, I just wish it wasn't for the Bengals (long-suffering Browns fan here too).

    I've followed LSU football fanatically for as long as I can remember -- which is quite some time considering the Marines had been on Guadalcanal a week the day I was born in Baptist Hospital in Alexandria, Louisiana in August, 1942. I remember lying in bed as a high schooler listening to the radio as reaction to Billy Cannon's Halloween night punt return totally obliterated the commentary. I've been thirsting for the 2019 LSU team and Joe Burrow's arrival since that night. Thanks, Tigers for delivering!

      The sequel to Ed O's movie would be the biggest downfall in sports history from 15-0 to two .500 seasons getting fired two years after winning it all. That guy was and is such a loser and at the end all he cared about was his money. That tells you who he always was, he never loved LSU like he claimed he loved money and power it all went to his head. Fucker quit LSU as a kid.
