    You can always get a 20a solar controller that will fit just fine on the lid without smashing anything u got there and have a solar charging i something similar but with a 20ah SLA battery and i can run my ps4 and 55in with the brightness on high for about 2 to 3 hours with a 300w inverter

    I like this build the most out of all of the ones I watched. I'd like to create one just like it. Maybe I missed it, so I will have to go back and watch the video, but how is your inverter wired? Is that the object to the far left that have the two posts coming out of it?

    I was thinking of using a low voltage cut off switch , just wonder how all the power would pass through such a device? Seems most cheap circuit boards can only accept smaller gauge wire, thinking wire size would like to be 8 or 10 gauge closer to battery and also to first loads.

    • @nathanialkeeter5028

      You could integrate a solar charge controller with everything connected to it and let the controller turn off at the specified voltage

    I’ve made about 6 of theres Generator roughly the same size with more connection probably a lot lighter also be cos of the lighter materials I’ve used. The one thing your generator has over mine is the nice/ clean Looking wiring. I wish I can post some pics of my Generator to you.

      Nathanial Keeter yea, as soon as I figure out how to do it I will, as I’ve had lots of interest from ppl. Your going to love some of my ideas
      And inlet outlet arrangements. I have a 1500w invertor inside but it’s modified wave at the mo an till I switch it out for pure wave.
      You could have 2 meter reader so one shows the power in and one shows power out. Also I think your solar controller would be better served on the underside of the led so it can been seen. My controller has ability to change the diameter so I’ve placed it we’re I can get to it. There’s lots of meters that looks the same as yours but the shunt is built in. It will save you having to wire so much. My batteries are normal sealed lead Acid because I find lithium very pricey.
      Most of my switches are water proof, the turn on my invertor/ AC Power I’ve used a battery Cut off style switch and wired in some light with it that go’s on when the invertor is switched on.

    Nice job! I have a generator that generates electricity. It's around 7000 watts I guess. It uses an engine with lots of moving parts to turn a rotor within a stator that could effectively "generate" the power needed to charge your system. You have an interesting idea though, mine doesn't store any electricity isn't very portable and probably wouldn't make much sense to use if I had to plug it in or hook it up to solar to get a benefit. I really wish people would quit calling these set ups generators. They store electricity and allow for multiple input and output scenarios that require it. They don't generate electricity. Nice set up though. Cost efficient. Useful and handy when needed.

  • @Jlui83

    What meter is that? I actually want it to see how much my panel is pulling in. Also is the shunt really needed? If so why?

  • @Jlui83
    @Jlui83 6 років тому

    for your solar input (the cigarette plug) which one did you use? so you basically you have that INPUT plug wired straight to the solar IN in the Charge Controller directly?

    • @nathanialkeeter5028
      @nathanialkeeter5028  6 років тому

      Jlui83 The 12v cig port is wired directly to the battery (fused ofcourse) I have the solar charge controller mounted to the back of my panel so there is no need to have it installed inside the box. Since this video I've added a + and - screw terminal and use alligator clips to connect the panel.

    • @Jlui83
      @Jlui83 6 років тому

      Nathanial Keeter which terminals did you buy? I’m in the process of building my box and having a hard time deciding how to do my solar input. Anderson is expensive. I don’t mind the cig port but would like to have hat connected through the charge controller

    • @nathanialkeeter5028
      @nathanialkeeter5028  6 років тому

      Jlui83 I'm not sure how that would work. I attached the charge controller to the back of the panel since I would have to extend the panel's cord anyways. In my first version I mounted the controller inside the box and used a male sae port on the panel and a female weatherproof sae socket on the box. That seemed like the best option if you want the controller mounted inside.

    How long can you power a regular fan with the aid of an inverter with that battery?

    • @nathanialkeeter5028
      @nathanialkeeter5028  5 років тому

      The modified sine wave inverter wont run ac fans very efficiently. You could power a tabletop fan 30 watts or so for 7-8 hrs at the most. The best option would be to use a 12v camping fan. I have one that uses only 10w on high

    • @luisfj9
      @luisfj9 5 років тому

      @@nathanialkeeter5028 Have you tried it yet? I have tried it with one of my power Banks using a used motorcycle battery with a inverter I was able to get at least a few hours out of it. 7 hours I doubt it. but with a short amount of time with what I have. With the type of battery that I saw inside your power bank in your video I assume that you could get a lot more run time with that battery due to the size of that battery then with what I have.

    hi there, you've mentioned some kind of a switch to control and monitor input voltage from a solar panel and output, your meter shows only output power, so do you know what kind of switch is used to do this? because i want to be able to monitor input and output power.

    • @nathanialkeeter5028
      @nathanialkeeter5028  6 років тому

      Dpdt switch. Same one used in power wheels to control forward and reverse. It basically switches the input wires to the meter so it can monitor incoming or outgoing data

    • @DMKA100
      @DMKA100 6 років тому

      Nathanial Keeter , so, basically it’s a 3 way switch, when you mentioned it, I thought there is some special type of switch for this purpose, do you know how to wire up this switch to a meter? Thanks!

    Your meter should display negative (charge) current - mine does. All the current goes through the shunt - in both directions. I have that exact meter.
    Very nice job! Next version, switch to lithium iron phosphate (LiFePO4) cells and save about 60% of the weight, while increasing total usable capacity.

    • @nathanialkeeter5028
      @nathanialkeeter5028  6 років тому +1

      I wonder why our meters are different? The manual of mine says that you can wire it one way to monitor outgoing power and another way to wire incoming power. I also watched another video where they installed a DPDT Rocker switch to reverse the polarity of the shunt wires which allows you to monitor ingoing and outgoing with one meter. Still waiting for you to upload so I can check yours out.

    • @richardowens9061
      @richardowens9061 6 років тому

      I don't know why they would be different, unless I got a different version of the same module that looks the same but allows for bi-directional current?

    • @nathanialkeeter5028
      @nathanialkeeter5028  6 років тому

      Richard Owens not sure but either way I'm planning on installing a dpdt switch to switch between ingoing and outgoing and I also want to install a dc to dc converter

      A 30 Amp LiFePO4 Battery would cost him about $570.00. It would yield over TWICE the runtime he has now. You're right about the tremendous weight reduction.

    How many watts is the inverter?

    • @nathanialkeeter5028
      @nathanialkeeter5028  6 років тому

      Jared Lane 400/800peak. It can't run a fridge the way it's currently setup though because the fuses I have max out at 30amps.

    • @nathanialkeeter5028
      @nathanialkeeter5028  6 років тому

      For now I have bypassed the fuses that I installed on the inverter. The box can now power a counter height mini fridge for about an hr and a half before the load voltage drops too low to support the inverter. Even when it reaches this point it still has tons of power for charging cell phones.

      Interesting - because, 10 AWG wire is rated for up to 55 amps for chassis wiring - according to this site:
      www.powerstream.com/Wire_Size.htm
      I use 12 AWG wiring for my solar power generator box and I charge at 14 amps - with no noticeable increase in wire temperature. Are you sure you don't mean 100 amps, and not 100 watts? Because, 100 amps would certainly get 10 AWG wire toasty warm - but, not 100 watts.
