I'm a billion more worried about slave trade than about nudity. The way they humiliated women they enslaved is frustrating. Dehumanizing. It's not like it was some weird handshake from a weird culture. It's treating people like merchandise and it's disgusting. That's beyond "objectification". It's literally merchandizing. Despicable.

How the conversation moved from something as serious as slave trade and dehumanization of slaves, to an imaginary problem like appropriateness Punjabi humor and "toxic masculinity" is beyond me.

It's the accusatory tone that breeds automatic defense. If your goal is to gain or reaffirm an ally who may possibly be misguided as you see it, this doesn't seem to be a successful way to do it. Something like Street Epistemology may be useful on both ends.

Sigh. Harris, you put up with a lot. From the beginning of this duo, I've seen you be scolded when you are supposed to be on the same team. To be exclusively on the receiving end of scolding and be expected to just agree, that asymmetry itself should raise eyebrows.
When I started this video I was just cynically waiting for the inevitable lecture.
Nouriah. Sissy man here. Harris' mockery is on point and it is funny when he says it. Harris is making fun of the Islamic hypocrites by describing or exaggerating their concepts. You asked what impact that has on male viewers. At no point am I laughing at women who are victims, or see it as permission to look down on women or take any adverse action/view. This is the success of Feminism.
Please stop turning it on him. Same team. You so casually discard all that you DO agree on and discount that as having no value. That's so important though to appreciate all the women's rights that you agree on that many women in the world are still lacking and would benefit from.
There are other points on which to criticize Harris, (perhaps you both need) to do better analysis of studies when building the narrative against Islam.
Harris has the right to personally prefer and admire masculine men. I'm speaking as an effeminate cis man.
As for what Harris says about sissy men. That view is not important enough for him to say more than a sentence about it when serious. Other than that, it's a tool to mock the so-called macho Muslims. I can live with that, I find it funny too. No harm will come to sissy men due to Harris's jokes. I'm sure when Harris meets me some day he won't be able to resist my friendly charm :) and most importantly he will not harm me.
We have to learn to live with our friends/allies who can align with us 95%, and find a way to negotiate the remaining 5%.
I understand you are an activist and idealist, and have to live your values and ideals. As much as you don't want to be lumped into the radical/hyper/toxic feminist label, unfortunately you have fallen into the now very familiar pattern of scolding, lecturing, humor control, language control and ultimately friendly fire.

That whole thing went sideways, honestly. And the only real issue in the entire thing is the merchandisation of actual human beings.
During the slave trade, in some country in Africa, people would judge each others by the price they would value if they were sold on the slave market. The ban against slavery have ended that practice. It's dehumanizing to evaluate someone's viability for such horror trade based on their muscular structure, or their resistance or the way they obey to orders, or based on beauty or the lack of it. People shouldn't be sold in the first place, not to, on top of it, being treated like bovines in an agricultural fair.

  • @SaintMatthieuSimard
    @SaintMatthieuSimard Рік тому +11

9:56 Some people are making dramas over insignificant things while they don't bother about truly grave issues. That's what Harris is trying to describe.
In the situation, the priority isn't whether manboobs or womanboobs are seen, but the fact that humans are bought and sold which is a grave issue.
Making it about the orbed thingies is diminishing the gravity of the graver issue.
It's like arguing over the colour of the nuke's shell. "It's pink, it's misrepresentative of people who likes pink" (Yeah but it's deadly, whatever the colour is)

Nuriyah has left islam and criticized Harris for wanting success but has has no problem using Haris channel and success to promote herself.
Why does she not start her own channel let's see how successful she is ?
Harris has obviously helped her promote her views . I am personally not against islam or any religion but run as far as I can from women that want equality but feel entitled to tell men how they should behave.

@jasonbourne8245 That's no laughing matter, haven't you read the other comment where I say it's despicable that they merchandize woman like vulgar cattle in an agricultural fair? It's not like she gave consent to be touched, she's enslaved, got her rights stripped off alongside with her dignity and is treated like someone who's not free.
That's way beyond any X matters or whether people have nice features or not.
IT's dehumanizing people, especially women like they were heifers in an agricultural fair.
The traders also judged enslaved males by their capacities, obedience and appearance. It's despicable. And that's akin to the workplace, but at least on the workplace you're being paid... Sometimes profitably if the market haven't been nerfed down to a slave wage.

In the context of a legit marriage, out of all this madness and away from it, it's rather the contrary, you sure want to be chosen by someone you also chose to be with.

Harris and Nuriyah are probably never going to read this but my message to both of you,
I don't think Harris is as problematic as Andrew Tate or even near that(Harris might share the wish to be successful but not at the cost of everything), but the way he presents himself and deals with certain issues is really easy to misinterpret. If you take a really dark subject, and keep talking about that casually or regularly and also the people who defend this dark action, you are eventually going to be somewhat desensitized to it(not necessarily in a sense that you will become okay with it or less willing to combat it, but in a sense that it would shock you less, prevent you going to the same depth to create a reaction unless maybe a specific incident is bought up) and you might lean more into the aspect of absurdity of people defending it, might find some humor in that absurdity(anger can also be a reaction but the focus shifted from the issue to defenders), I think Harris sometimes leans into the absurdity aspect way too much, looses himself there a little, finds new ways to make fun of it, while not doing any justice to the graveness of the matter he is dealing with, even though he bought that up too. But however because I think he can sometimes tone down a little, approach a subject matter more carefully, doesn’t mean I also think he thinks what Arabs practiced was in any way right, that was an acceptable form of luxury or women should be owned, men should act like masters which Andrew Tate and Daniel Pikachu sometimes implies or it is justified to hold them in high numbers as accessories or objects. Harris should also understand some jokes might be out of date(you can't call them problematic and think it is okay to keep using them or enjoying them at the same time, sometimes you have to come with better jokes that doesn’t punch down on the matter of consent or after spilling it clarify it was out of line but this is not your view), otherwise you would lose audience who have better sensibility than you(people close to the average).
Harris is also wrong in the approach of pushing back against misandrism, you should talk about the flaws of it on it's own basis, like if there were less incels would you say that I will tolerate misandrism?! Harris can also point out why a certain claim was misandrist, which also helps his position. And most of the incels are incels because they have been exposed to mysogynist ideas, they might have been fear mongered a little about misandrism, but why would return to misogyny as the default place? Some women are too hard on any man choosing to harmlessly be a little masculine, or men in general, doesn’t really take a somewhat sensible person to the place of women were better in the kitchen, they are incapable of being outside or doing anything right.
Nuriyah could have been more focused I think and eliminated some of the weaker arguments. She should have come more prepared while debating this publicly. You have much better sensibility than Harris I give you that but you can debate in a more organized way and reduce creating confusion. I think you know Harris is better than this, saying he and Andrew Tate would be best buds was pointless.

@@HarrisSultanAtheist I watched you and Nuriyah's other video as well. You did really well there, explained your position and boundaries, you were open to criticism to your position and willing to provide evidence for your claims. Nuriyah on the other hand was quite childish I would say, she was struggling to accept even the possibility she might be wrong or her portrayal of you might be wrong, she didn’t ever say she was sorry or wrong about you explicitly and just jumped to the next thing she could find(from the issue of sexism to you saying there is only one way to be man, even though you were just talking in the popular societal idea of men), she compared you to mullahs who have no evidence to back up their claims even though you said you would dm her your evidence which she can evaluate. Whether you are a girl or a guy a little bit of humbleness doesn’t make you a smaller or weaker person. On the contrary it shows maturity or exposes to others you can see the bigger picture. I hope she evaluates her approach. Not every conversation has to be a boxing match with winner or loser.

That said, I'm sorry this session is a prime example of how feminists in the west are busy fighting men who may want to help them instead of the ones that want them to be literally enslaved - in this context harris represents people like us who see masculinity as not necessarily toxic - who value stoicism and the ability to make and take jokes on ourselves and others - in reality harris's issues could go far beyond what was on display today because ultimately he was raised on a particular environment where intellectual development is stifled. Far too women after reading modern feminist literature just end up deciding that the problem ultimately is masculinity as a whole - as it has no redeeming qualities - and in this case that being achievement oriented makes you andrew tate.
