Guitarist REACTS to Rainbow - Stargazer!

- First time on the channel for this band and ive been asked for this for quite a while now and ive also been asked a lot for reactions to Ronnie James Dio, so when i found out he was in this band, i thought it was a great opportunity to kill two birds with one stone!
I got serious Led Zeppelin vibes from this song at the start, but towards the end they started to disappear. Instant head bop to this song and it was all because of that riff! Everything else was a bonus! and it all came together really well actually!
The solo was fantastic, almost sounded like the guitar was wailing! I could listen to this kind of music all day!

This is a example of pure excellence in writing, musicianship and vocals. One of the top line ups in Rock History.
You got that right. They were totally awesome
Nice that you pointed out the arabic / middle east feel in the chords, harmonies and guitar work, very few seem to point that out. It's actually a little bit of a signature sound for Blackmore; but more promiment in this song than others. He certainly writes music from a different musical perspective and he has a huge toolbox.
Nice reaction!
Another epic song by Rainbow that you should react is Gates of Babylon. Ritchie orchestrate and turn the heavy rock sounds into theatrical dimension. Long Live Rock and Roll.
Back in 1984 I was introduced to Ronnie James Dio (the singer AND the band named after him "Dio") with the song 'The Last In Line" as well as being introduced to his time with Black Sabbath via the "Live Evil" album. At the time I was into pop music and some breakdance music. I thought the sound of Black Sabbath/Dio was just too loud and really did not enjoy it much at first listen.
I was just getting into 'Dungeons and Dragons' at the time.. and back then MTv actually played music videos (imagine that.) The 'Last In Line' video was on rotation at the time, and the video itself featured not only Dio's vocals but also a kid star from a TV show I used to watch and enjoy.. and the video itself kinda gave a 'Dungeons and Dragons' vibe if you looked at certain elements of it.. so I actually began looking forward to watching the video for that reason.. and the song grew on me. I asked my friend who had introduced me to the songs for a copy of the cassette and listened to it on my walkman as I rode the bus to school each morning.
After less than a week I was hooked into Metal.. changed my life (for the better) forever. Were it not for Ronnie James Dio I likely would have never gotten into Metal.
The man is a legend both vocally and creatively.. and has inspired many generations of Metal musicians.
I know this was longwinded and all.. but the man deserves full props and a short comment would not suffice to present the respect I have for the man himself. We lost an icon when he passed away.. but we are blessed with his life's work to listen to and enjoy for the remainder of ours.
This is the kind of stuff I make these videos for! I love hearing stories like this, how music and artists have had an affect on people’s actual lives! Love it! Thank you!
Mate - you're a hard man to please! A pretty lukewarm reaction to what many people (me included) think is the greatest hard rock / metal song ever written and performed. You're a guitarist but you have absolutely no recognition of Ritchie Blackmore? Really? Bit like a singer wondering who the guy with the groovy hips from Memphis is!!
Fair comment! I must admit since listening to this on the video, I’ve listened to this many times. The song is fantastic! I’m a bit of a reflector, which doesn’t make the best reactions, I know, but yeah... as for Ritchie Blackmore, again I think it’s just the generational gap. I missed lots of music from the 70’s to perhaps the 90’s/00’s - hopefully I can fill that gap this year!
This is from 1976 and is considered the first proto-power metal. Ex Deep Purple Guitarist Blackmore recorded this song as a "response" to Led Zeppelin's Kashmir, to prove he could blow them out the water with superior songwriting.
A more fast paced follow up song called A Light in the Black. It continues the storyline of the slave who is now free from the wizard who had made him build a tower to reach the stars.
A shorter but also really great song is Kill the King from the next studio album (although it had been in the live set of the '76 album) and Gates of Babylon. That's another more Arabic sounding song but with a bit more punch, which is why I prefer it to Stargazer.
Dio in Black Sabbath as Ozzy is kicked out in '80, a must-listen is Heaven and Hell.
From Dio's solo career in the 80s, Holy Diver and Rainbow in the Dark are the big hits, also Last in Line.
Child in time already had that on her.

"The Chains Are On" heavily reflects old Middle East sound.
I go back and forth on Page and Blackmore, One day one is better, the next the other is. There is NO BEST guitar player, it's a matter of preference at your particular time and taste. I NEVER say any One guitarist was "the best", because so many were! Just depends on your tastes that particular day. Both are spectacular guitar players in my opinion, along with many others!
@@intensetornado Also Gates of Babylon.
Dio is basically one of the godfathers of rock music .. Try Heaven and Hell from his time with Black Sabbath 🤘🏻
Guitarist who does not know who RB is? My question is, what planet this guitarist is from?
my thoughts exactly. How many guitarists started their riffing with 'smoke on the water'? There's a reason it's banned in most guitar shops!
Honour MUST be given to the guitar genius. Long Live Rock and Roll, Ritchie the legend
The voice of that little man gives me shivers for more than 30 years. Dearly missed Ronnie James Dio.
It's cool how you can never tell a person's singing ability and talent by their appearance or size.
The song that never should have ended...
Thats a true fact!
It never did end... we are still here, building that tower, only to watch the wizard fall...
Rainbow was, and is, Ritchie Blackmore's baby.
Dio was, and will ever be, the geatest metal voice to have walked this earth.
Oh, and Zep has nothing on Rainbow.
Blackmore is also a massive, festering piece of shit of a person.
@@longbong7049 coming from a piece of shit person like you it's a compliment to the legend Ritchie Blackmore.
@@longbong7049 Ritchie to some is a very nice man. The press didn't like him because he rarely talked to them. Tony Carey who has worked with many great Artist said that anyone that was good was hard to work with. Ritchie hired the Entire band Elf minus the guitarist. Everyone says Dio was a nice guy. There are many examples of him being a dick. Dio complained about Ritchie Billing Himself on Ritchie Blackmore's Rainbow. He did Bill the Band. So the second Album it was just Rainbow. When Dio went Solo he just Billed himself and he went back to being a warm up band for the most part. Ritchie demanded excellence and he created more original music than anyone else in the Business. He has also sold millions of albums of Acoustic music. If you listen to Ritchie in his later years when he finally started doing interviews he is very nice. funny, a gentleman. I believe Candace mellowed him out.
@@kristiankrastanov5995 I’m sure you met him and know that as a fact. Even Ian Gillan says he was as much responsible for the feuds as RB was.
Agree, LZ has nothing to do with Rainbow, I´m Fan of both. LZ, DP, Rainbow.
The tower of Babel is a biblical story. where human beings are punished by God for behaving as if they are God. The people build a tower reaching into the sky in the east, to show their power and superiority. They are led by a King, the Wizzard. I believe Ronnie is giving us a warning about not becoming too dominant and too arrogant as human beings, as we will be brought down if we do. The Rainbow shows the real purpose of humans existence and where their home really lies. It is a symbol of a power greater than human power, something spiritual, untouchable and beautiful, which will take us to heaven. We dont get there by the hard labour of building a material stone tower to the sky with our flesh and bone, we are taken there once we drop our arrogance and dominance of other people and the planet, and accept our own weaknesses. Ronnie was a genius..
If you don’t know Ritchie Blackmore was the cofounder of the great deep purple.. he formed rainbow after he left purple. I find it a little strange that you’re a guitarist and don’t know who Ritchie Blackmore is.
Thanks for the info! Yep a few people are saying similar about me not hearing any Rush before too. Probably a generational gap.
@@ThomasJ_Music just look at this ua-cam.com/video/j9B-71eVa6M/v-deo.html . Then you will understand why he is at least in the top 10 guitarist of all time
Ronnie 'DYO'!!
Smoke On The Water anyone?
Smoke On The Water anyone?
Best pure voice in Hard Rock/Metal that ever lived.
Period.
*BEST ROCK SONG EVER!!*
Rainbow, great band. I’m right back in my teenage years. Richie Blackmore formed this band after he left Deep Purple. Dio, probably the greatest hardrock singer ever, has a great influence through his lyrics and singing.
This is not their best song. It’s just too long.
Try: Man on the silver mountain. Lady of the lake. The gates of Babylon.
Same as you being taken back to teenage years. I was 13 going on 14. I beg to differ on this not being their best. Looking back now, and Tommy might remember me from Nightwish comments, this song could have been the start of my love for symphonic metal as there is quite a bit of that sound in this song, although a lot more subtle.
Ronnie James Padavona was in a band called The Electric Elves, later Elf, who opened for a Deep Purple North America tour and when Ritchie Blackmore (lead guitarist of Deep Purple) finally left DP in 1974, he asked Dio and Elf to record an album with him. They did and Ritchie Blackmore's Rainbow released their self-titled first in 1975. For the second album (1976's "Rainbow Rising"), Blackmore kicked everybody bar Dio out, brought in legendary drummer Cozy Powell and illustre unknowns Jimmy Bain (bass) and Tony Carey (keyboards) and this is more or less the result. Dio came to prominence in Europe thanks to Roger Glover (Deep Purple bass player) who made an animation film called The Butterfly Ball of which "Love Is All", sung by Dio, became a huge hit in 1974.
Don't forget "The Vegas Kings", "Ronnie & The Rumblers", "Ronnie And The Red Caps" and "Ronnie Dio And The Prophets" ! ;) ;) ;)
So True as Dio has said in interviews in the 2000s, America doesn't care about rock music
Dio was the best singer of the genre...Blackmore is one of THE guitar gods of rock!
Blackmore can make a single coil strat sing like no other, neo-classical before that was a "thing"
My all time favorite song from rainbow
Love Ronnie James dio! I recommend you listen to last in line by dio next it's such an amazing song
And 'i' by black sabbath!
This band more like belong to Ritchie Blackmore(the guitarist) than dio
still one of the best showcases of Dio's singing.
No way, Dio was an accomplished songwriter.
Blackmore never sounded like Dio fronted Rainbow again after Ronnie left.
Ritchie went American pop without Dio.
@@mattiasjansson733 The story is the other way around. Dio left because Blackmore wanted to go pop.
@@flavio_spqr Exactly what l said.
When Ronnie wrote with Ritchie: Masterpieces
Ritchie and Roger: pop
@@mattiasjansson733 You are so off base it is ridiculous. Elf had been around for years and their biggest accomplishment was warming up Deep Purple. They probably would have never made it. Ritchie hires Elf minus the guitarist and then they became Stars. Then Dio got with another Legend Iommi and Black Sabbath. When Dio went solo as good as the first two albums were he reversed and became a Warm up Band again. I love Dio but his success lies on Backs of Blackmore, Iommi and Vivian Campbell. He did write some great songs but it was the genius of those three talented guitarists that made Dio.
As a Brit you must be familiar with Ritchie Blackmore (Ex-Deep Purple). One of the early guitar gods and most influential players of all time. He created Neo-Classical rock. The big 3 British guitar gods , Page, Clapton, and Blackmore. Jeff Beck could be added to this list. However Page and Blackmore were Rock/Hard Rock icons.
If you want more middle-eastern vibes, then check out Rainbow's song "Gates of Babylon". That too is awesome. Part of the Rainbow "holy trinity" with the other biggie - "Eyes of the World".
Ritchie Blackmore (guitar) had/has a great interest in medieval and classical/baroque music, so I'm sure he's glad to indulge in some unusual scales and modalities with Stargazer! You can hear the influences throughout Rainbow and Deep Purple.
The song itself is about a wizard who gathers slaves to build a tower of stone as mentioned within said song and as you mentioned, to take to the sky or see the stars as these slaves build it for the wizard, when in reality the wizard is falling instead of rising when played in the next track “Light in the Black” which is another song I’d recommend
The guitar solo and the tension built during it, is symbolising the wizard climbing the tower and then jumping and trying to fly, then as he fails and falls to his death, the guitar symbolising this with the delayed sequals at the end of the solo and then final slide down the guitar as the wizard falls, that then leads into the final verse, chorus and outro. Absolute masterpiece, for me.
'Stargazer' is the one of the masterpieces created by Ritchie Blackmore.
One of the best songs ever written and performed
Big fan of Rainbow's first 2 albums, though I think I'm in the minority who prefers the first album "Ritchie Blackmore's Rainbow" to "Rainbow Rising". I like "Stargazer", but I think "Man on the Silver Mountain" and "Temple of the King" are better overall songs, and showcases.
I too prefer the first album. Although stargazer is my favorite song, the first album just has so many great songs.
Stick with Rainbow and enjoy all their stuff! They never disappoint. Nice reaction
Fantastic song, fantastic group...... love this group.
Live version of "Mistreated or Catch the Rainbow" live from the Munich 1977 show is exceptional, both vocally and solos.
Our dearest friend Ronnie James Dio has left us to sing for the Angels, but his voice will NEVER be silent!!!! RJD deserves a medal...
You got it! So many miss the Middle Eastern feel to this. Richie's solos could charm the snakes!
At last! Someone reacting to this song that understands it! You also picked up on the middle eastern sound of the solo. Yeah, its based on the slaves who built the Egyptian pyramids but instead of being for a pharoah its for a wizard who thinks he can fly from the top of the tower to the stars above but comes crashing down to earth (sand) again instead of flying. Its typical Dio lyrics full of history/fantasy rolled together. Basically every Dio song is a journey to somewhere!
Tom, do the sequel! Light in the Black..the following track on the album
Where would rock and metal be today without Dio and Blackmore back then, I wonder?
In the dark ages, we are all blessed to ride on the waves of others, keep on keeping on brothers......
And this very short and elite genre, the 70’s hard rock/heavy metal...overshadowed by disco (at the time), and nearly forgotten, certainly left for dead although lives forever within us... Blackmore, Iommi, and Page in my opinion are the guitar royalty of the genre. But for Heavy Metal guitar, there’s only one Godfather and that will always be Tony Iommi, himself forged from the heavy metal foundry of Birmingham where he lost the tips of his fingers, was forced to downtune his guitar, and a sound was born.
The music that was the result of RJD working with Iommi will always be my all time favorite. R.I.P. Ronnie James, the greatest rock/Metal vocalist to ever live.
The song is about a wizard who has a following who build him a tower so he can fly to the stars. The building process is very tough and long and many people die. Then the wizard just falls to his death. And the people feel betrayed and stupid for wasting so much of their life. So basically the lesson is not to trust in conmen and weird people. The next song on the record Light In The Black is a sequel to this.
Its about people blindly following someone who has convinced them he is some kind of great leader, with great plans, that ultimately fail. Very topical over the past few years.
Zeppelin vibe??? Robert Plant wouldn't be a pimple on Ronnie's ass!
Granted, but that doesn’t mean the songs don’t sound similar??
Still to this day I am not a fan of this song at the beginning but as it goes on I love it more and more and by the end I don't want it to end. I have listened to this song for 30 plus years and still have that same reaction.
Greatest drummer, greatest singer, greatest guitarist. Need i say anymore. After these theres only imitators
Blackmore is a god
You said "it's got this kind of middle eastern vibe to it" - That comes from the use of the Phrygian Dominant scale, also known as the Spanish Gypsy scale. The song is in B, so if you want to try it out, it's B, C, Eb, E, F#, G, A, B
Modes always got me confused. I know the Melodic Minor has a similar sound, but how are MM and Phrygian different?
@@ThomasJ_Music Phrygian dominant has a major third (Phtygian mode has a minor third), Melodic minor is different when ascending and descending: Ascending (in B) B, C#, D E, F#, Ab, Bb, B - Descending B, C#, D, E, F#, G, A, B
A true masterpiece
I understand that from a modern point of view - this track sounds a bit "oldfashioned", even though Dio`s vocals are timeless same as overall Blackmore`s input and legacy for own current music industry is undeniable. I don think that Led Zeppelin had anything to do with Rainbow`s songwriting, while in general the Eastern vibes in Kashmire and in this song are visible and relatible, but that doesnt make think of Rainbow sounding like Zeppelin. For me its like, oh, hey both go that path and being inspired by same "source". I also dont think that Dio in anyway sound like Robert Plant or vice versa. I never looked at LZ legacy as heavy metal, while Dio is a real god father of metal-style vocals and there are no vocalists (at least i dont know such) in heavy genre in 80-s who were not in some way looking back at what Dio was doing and how he was delivering his singing part. I love this track and when i heard it as a teenager i was hugely inspired back then. Cheers for the vid.
Lyrics is about Babylon tower, but the hero of song is a one of the slaves, who actually building it, while the wizard wants to touch the sky, to fly and etc. In the end the wizard falls down and dies, the tower is broken, all the slaves are free!
Deep meaning! Dio was a really intellectual man.
Check out Heaven an Hell from Black Sabbath with Dio and Don't talk to Strangers from his solo
tower of babylon? where did you get that from? how i see it it's a story from a slave's perspective building a tower for his master/wizard who thinks he'll' get close to his star from this tower and fly there. of course it goes horribly wrong and our slave is left confused, trying to conform to normal life again....
I remember when I saw him live, he was jumping around the stage from prop to prop. The song thats stood out for me at that concert was Man on a silver mountain. His set was phenomenal. He was a pocket sized rocket. I remember wondering how such a a voice could erupt from such a small man. When he left the earth and grew his wings, artists joined in making a tribute album of a selection of his best songs. I think that shows how well respected he was... Off the top of my head I think it was called.... Ronnie James Dio, pronounced (Dee-o) this is your life... It included a track sang by Dio called This is my life... Hence the title. ❤️
Rainbow is a fantastic band. They've got a handful of truly wonderful songs, but for me Kill the King and Gates of Babylon are the two that hit the mark for me the most (and I think a lot of fans would agree.) Gates of Babylon in particular has what I consider the best guitar solo EVER in it - it's absolutely nuts! Kill the King on the other hand is one of the first true power metal songs: it's fast and absolutely relentless. Other gems in their catalog are Tarot Woman, A Light in the Black, and Lady of the Lake. Can't go wrong with any of them.
You should give Rainbow a listen again sometime, this is a good song but not the best and Dio been a singer for Rainbow, Black Sabbath and his own band, got so many good songs under his belt. Rainbow is rock/metalish, Sabbath/Dio is metal. Black Sabbath - Children of the sea is a good one from his time there, Dio - Holy diver or Don't talk to strangers are bangers and Rainbow - Catch the rainbow is like Pink Floyd - Time for me, i sit back and close my eyes when i listen to that. there is a good live version from Munich 1977 of that song and a killer Deep Purple cover of Mistreated, guitarist Blackmore i Rainbow is former Deep Purple, both of the songs live versions got some long epic solos from him to.
Cheers.
Temple of the king is absolutely stunning too. I had no idea that was Dio on vocals when I heard it for the first time.
gotta love that Turkish scale guitar
Ronnie James Dio is still the God of voice
Rainbow were created after the break up of Deep Purple put together by Richie Blackmore very underrated band one of my all time favourite groups.
TRUMP IS THE WIZZARD LOL
I love this man! I mean Ronnie James in Sabbath, in Rainbow and on his own is FULL DIO! (RIP🤘🏻❤️🌈)
What an amazing voice. He is like the epitome of the metal voice. At least the late 70’s early 80’s bit(must include Klaus Miene(Scorpions) and Rob Halford.
More Rainbow- not sure how familiar you with Deep Purple(Guitar player here Richie Blackmore’s previous band-Ian Gillan another great) would be another great band to look into.
That song is about people who sacrifice their lives for the dreams of some wise man who beliefs in his own bullshit.
@@angrybastard7364 whoever gets power from people...powerful people, heroes, idols, are all bullshit. And a majority of people keep falling for it...and than the bubble bursts and they pick another one.
Please react to Dio don't talk to strangers. His name is pronounced Dee-oh
It's about a wizard who claimed that if the people built him the tallest tower, he would be able to fly away to the stars. So under "whips and chains" the people toiled and built "built a tower of stone, with our flesh and bone" ("to see him fly, so many died") But when the tower was finally finished, the wizard fell to the ground instead of flying away, and the people were left to wonder why, and to figure out how to move on with their lives.
High noon, oh I'd sell my soul for water
Nine years worth of breakin' my back
There's no sun in the shadow of the wizard
See how he glides, why he's lighter than air
Oh I see his face
Where is your star?
Is it far, is it far, is it far?
When do we leave?
I believe, yes, I believe
In the heat and the rain
With whips and chains
To see him fly
So many die
We build a tower of stone
With our flesh and bone
Just to see him fly
Don't know why
Now where do we go?
Hot wind, moving fast across the desert
We feel that our time has arrived
The world spins, while we put his dream together
A tower of stone to take him straight to the sky
Oh, I see his face!
Where is your star?
Is it far, is it far, far?
When do we leave?
Hey, I believe, I believe
In the heat and the rain
With whips and chains
Just to see him fly
Too many die
We build a tower of stone
With our flesh and bone
To see him fly
But we don't know why
Ooh, now where do we go
All eyes see the figure of the wizard
As he climbs to the top of the world
No sound, as he falls instead of rising
Time standing still, then there's blood on the sand
Oh, I see his face!
Where was your star?
Was it far, was it far
When did we leave?
We believed, we believed, we believed
In heat and rain
With the whips and chains
To see him fly
So many died
We built a tower of stone
With our flesh and bone
To see him fly
But why
In all the rain
With all the chains
Did so many die
Just to see him fly
Look at my flesh and bone
Now, look, look, look, look
Look at his tower of stone
I see a rainbow rising
Look there, on the horizon
And I'm coming home, coming home, coming home
Time is standing still
He gave back my will
Ooh ooh ooh ooh
Going home
I'm going home
My eyes are bleeding
And my heart is leaving here
A place called home
A place called home
Ooh
Take me back
He gave me back my will
Ooh ooh ooh ooh
Going home
I'm going home
My eyes are bleeding
And my heart is leaving here
A place called home
A place called home
Ooh
Take me back, take me back
Back to my home ooh, ooh, ooh
Nice! Thank you!
@@ThomasJ_Music There is another track on the album, A Light in the Black, telling the aftermath of the story; the (formerly) enslaved narrator reflects on what's happened and what to do with his life now ("all my life, it seems such a crazy dream, reaching for somebody's star ... can't believe it all, did he really fall? What to do now I don't know").
It's interesting that as much as the wizard's followers have been enslaved, they also have come to identify with his aspirations, hoping for him to succeed, whether it's because he's promised to take them to some promised land or whether it's just for the hope that all of their toil wasn't for nothing.
For me, the tale isn't just a fantasy tale but also works on a metaphorical level, not only about all kinds of cult leaders, but in general about people slavishly following unreachable dreams of others rather than dealing with their own lives.
E: As for songs to listen to, the Black Sabbath songs Heaven and Hell, Children of the Sea, Sign of the Southern Cross, Falling off the Edge of the World (studio versions) are all good recommendations, also the live versions of Heaven and Hell and Don't Talk To Strangers by Dio, at the Spectrum in Philly from 1984 and 1986.
@@M.Never. Well put. Dio had said that Heaven And Hell was the best song he ever wrote. Definitely worth a listen, don't you think, @NorthernEar ?
Sometimes you have to tread carefully if offering even the slightest criticism of Ronnie, such is his status as (arguably) the greatest hard rock/metal singer of all time, according to his legions of fans. The comments below attest to that. Ronnie's lyrics seem to be a bit impenetrable at times, but I suppose that we all have our own interpretations.
When Ronne formed his own eponymous band, he really came into his own and it would be easy to run out of superlatives when describing his music from that period. I would suggest that a good starting point would be to listen to 'Rainbow in the dark'.
Ronnie James Deeo.
i dont think that people who make reaction videos listen songs first time when they are in front of camera
Do you think I’d heard this before? What makes you think this?
two years ago i had never heard of Ritchie Blackmore either, now I know he is a genius and I have gone deep down the Deep Purple and Rainbow rabbit holes to learn more,
Interesting! Which songs do you check out first?
@@ThomasJ_Music the song that got me interested in Deep Purple originally was one I heard played on the show The Expanse . Its called Highway Star. Start with the studio version first. Burn is another one . Both those songs have multiple live versions out there with different solos. I'm not an expert on which are the best live versions. Man on the Silver Mountain by rainbow. Then a more poppy, real catchy earworm "Since you been gone" by Rainbow.
One sort of odd thing I heard about Ritchie Blackmore is he didn;t like being videod . I am not sure if that is true, but it is true s a lot of his concert video you think its just bad camerawork they arent covering the guitar player during the solo.
Also smoke on the water, which you will recognize from just about any guitar video game ever, though the actual story behind the song is pretty cool. I like the Live in Japan version of that song. I never paid much attention to that song dismissing it as dad rock but it is of course an iconic riff for a reason
Its pronounced dee-o.
Dream Theater did a cover of this on one of their albums. I actually heard that before this original version. It's composed perfectly and I think DT execute it in such a way to add to its perfection with near perfect tones and delivery.
It's about a false prophet
Did was in Elf then Rainbow, Black Sabbath, Dio and Heaven and He'll until his death
Songs Gates of Babylon Children of the Sea Sign of the Southern Cross, Egypt the chains are On, Last.in Line, Heaven and He'll. Best albms- Rainbow Rising, long Live Rock &Roll, Heaven &He'll Last in Line, Live Evil
Listen to "Heaven and Hell" from Black Sabbath's album "Live Evil". ONLY from "Live Evil". The song is about 11 minutes long compared to the version on the album "Heaven and Hell". It also includes one of the most insane solos by Tonni Iommi - a true Heavy Metal Legend.
I absolutely love Geddy, but does anybody else agree with me that:
Vocals: Dio
Drums: Peart
Bass: Lee
Guitar(s): Lifeson
Lyrics: Peart
would have been the absolute pinnacle of rock music ?
Thank you for this reaction. You should do reactions to those who made the way to modern hard rock and heavy metal bands. To understand you have to be aware of your roots. And in this case, roots mean bands like Deep Purple, Black Sabbath, Uriah Heep, Led Zeppelin, Rush, Nazareth, Rainbow, Judas Priest etc.etc. Everyone in UA-cam do reactions to very talented and unique bands like Nightwish, Sabaton, Ayreon, Metallica. And that is ok. I aprreciate their music and talent too. But to actually understand their musical backgrounds, you need to find out what these late 60`s and early 70`s bands have given to them. And they certainly have given a lot :-) P.S. More arabian vibes from Rainbow: "Gates of Babylon". Best solo Ritchie has played in his own words. Stay safe man!
This is a fantastic idea actually. Maybe it’s a series I can do. Music evolution. Maybe even look at how bands such as those mentioned came about. Food for though for sure
Rainbow were a band from the left overs of the classic British rock band Deep Purple. Ritchie Blackmore was responsible for both of these bands. Rainbow were a seriously underatted British/American rock band. After Ronnie James Dio left Rainbow he was for two successful albums the front man for Black Sabbath.
Sign of the southern cross
What guitarist does not know who Ritchie Blackmore is and constantly butchers Dēōō. That was for the maker of this video. I only watched to hear the only Rainbow!!!
A 'Guitarist' reacts.......? My cat can give a far more articulate reaction....!
Do you feel better now buddy?
@@ThomasJ_Music A little, your title of your post seems misleading. Are you actually a guitarist...?
Watch the movie "The Chalice", Paul Newman's first movie. You'll know what this song is about.
Its Dio as in Dee OH not Dio as in die o. Just letting you know. And the film clip is not the actual audio used which is taken from the studio recording. The whole band is utterly stunning at this point in their history. No its not Zep in any way. Blackmore was already using gothic and middle eastern type harmonies and melodies in his soloing and song writing before Kashmir which is unless I'm mistaken from memory the only similar type tune Zep did. And its Phrygian dominant and yes harmonic minor scales.
Listen to temple of the king. Dio and Blackmore are stunning beyond words. A prelude of things to come.
Long live the god of metal! Alive in our hearts till the end of times
Yes you’re right, it takes place in ancient egypt
Ever since i first listened to this song, i have personally interpreted it and i found out that its a reference to the wizard that claimed that he would prove that god is nothin but a myth, Aaron and the slaves were building an enormous pillar for him to climb and “fly” from, the construction costed the lives of countless slaves, however, the wizard climbed and looked up at the skies and said that he sees no God, then proceeded to prove that he could use his magic to fly then he plummeted to his death.
Great band. RJD (pronunciation Dee-oh) is a master. The most pawerful voice of metal. React " Rainbow in the dark " wont be disappointed
my 2 cents...The wizard is a cult leader. Telling his followers he's going to take them to "his star". Sounds like many cult leaders! So under his direction they build a tower of stone and a wing. But when the time comes he just falls and "blood on the sand". Leaving his followers to ask "Where do we go?"
Ronnie James Dio is always worth listening to. His early work with Deep Purple’s Ritchie Blackmore is amazing. Check out Kill the King, Gates of Babylon.
In Black Sabbath Neon Knights, Children of the Sea. Computer God and Master of Insanity are very heavy and raw.
In his solo band Dio try Holy Diver, Don’t talk to Strangers, Dream evil, Last in Line.
I think this song is based on the Old Testaments Tower of Babil story. A king who wanted to be like god and had his slaves build him a tower so he could go to the top and touch the heavens. He failed miserably. In this song they substituted the king with a wizard. I’m sure I’m not completely accurate about the bible story. Regardless, this is one of the best rock songs ever.
Forget Led Zeppelin, Blackmore, Dio and Powell = F-I-R-E!
Dio - Holy Diver
Brought up on marr squire and galliger try Blackmore iommi page the unholy gods of guitar
Check out Dio,his solo band. The song 'Last in Line' is awesome but, then again, thru the years with Rainbow,Black Sabbath & Dio,he has produced many awesome tracks.Stargazer is also 1 of my favorites.Glad you got to it & hope to see more.
there was a reel-to-reel on stage maybe for delay effects
Listen to Elf. One if the first Dio band. To know Dio's history go to padavona.com. There you'll find everything from the early Dio years
I am traumatised that a guitarist hasn't heard of Rainbow. I may need a strong cup of chamomile tea to get over it. Let me help. Rainbow were formed by Ritchie Blackmore, the guy who wrote the riff that's banned in every guitar shop on the planet. Man, where have you been?!
Funnily enough, first riff I ever learned! Just didn’t know it was Ritchie!
For the greatest song of Dio; check out Heaven and Hell - Black Sabbath

Dio solo career. Rainbow in the Dark, last in line, all the fools sailed away, Holy Diver. Listen to these they're awesome
An ancient tower of stone in the east, reaching into the heavens, the tower of Babel maybe?
LA Connection is brilliant. It's Rainbow.
You should know the Deep Purple guitarist Ritchie Blackmore. One of the greatest ever! Rainbow was his band after he left Deep Purple.what guitarist are you?
A poor one that has only ever played stuff like the Beatles and Oasis all my life 😂
Stargazer is my fav song , rip Dio
His name is pronounced like Dee oh
