  • Can the TKOR foundry melt glass? Join The King of Random and Veritasium melting glass in a metal foundry. This Random Happens features a collaboration melting dr pepper soda bottles. The glass bottle is set in a hot fire and cast in a mold made from dirt. Here’s a hot twist on some cool tricks on how to melt glass using a foundry. In this foundry experiment, Grant Thompson takes glass and bottles to the foundry to see what happens. What do you think will happen?
    This melting glass project is also great for those wanting to know how to do other cool things with a foundry: foundry project, melting with foundry, glass melting, how to melt glass, glass recycling, melting glass at home, recycling glass, how to melt glass bottles at home, how to recycle glass at home, melting metal, DIY foundry, homemade foundry melting, glass casting, science projects and more!
    If you’re looking to try something new or for an activity such as: DIY foundry project, melting glass, melting fidget spinners experiment, cool science experiments, fun weekend project, metal experiment, STEM project, STEM research, or just a fun project with the family, watch the video to learn more.

    i think a smaller crucible with broken up glass will get a better flow,plus make sure its clean of other materials.i really like how you had two propane tanks heating it up,unfortunately i think it might have created an excess because there wasnt enough glass to keep hold of the tempature to keep it liquid because of the extra space in the oversized crucible.

    King of Random - You can make explosive tadpoles easily. These are known as Prince Rupert's Drops. Melt glass really hot and then drip it into ice cold water. The blobs that survive look like tadpoles. Now grip the tadpole with pliers on the tail while submerging the head in a glass of water and snap the tail. The shock wave should break the glass. It helps to degas the water.
    When you break the tail it produces a shock wave that can break the glass holding the water. If it doesn't work the tadpole still turns into dust at the bottom of the glass.

    • @peterbucek2136
      @peterbucek2136 7 років тому

      Michael I. I don't know what's going on in your head but you do realize that quartz, or SiO2, is a covalent compound, meaning its melting point is very high (around 1700C). This glass was merely at some 700-1000C and the copper he melted previously only melts at 1000C too. Other crystals or covalent crystaline structures are similar and most even harder to melt. Think before you write, dumbfuck.

    • @hiddenexotics1065
      @hiddenexotics1065 7 років тому

      Fauzan Raif Dhiaurrahman. Quartz is a combo of oxygen and silicon. I'm assuming that the oxygen would burn off and leave silicon. Or the quartz could have chemical bonds holding it together creating completely different properties

I was a bit disappointed that Veritassium didn’t figure the whole thing out beforehand. Someone with an engineering degree should be able to look up the melting point of glass, the expected temperature that a kiln would achieve and come prepared.
