  • Can the TKOR foundry melt glass? Join The King of Random and Veritasium melting glass in a metal foundry. This Random Happens features a collaboration melting dr pepper soda bottles. The glass bottle is set in a hot fire and cast in a mold made from dirt. Here’s a hot twist on some cool tricks on how to melt glass using a foundry. In this foundry experiment, Grant Thompson takes glass and bottles to the foundry to see what happens. What do you think will happen?
    This melting glass project is also great for those wanting to know how to do other cool things with a foundry: foundry project, melting with foundry, glass melting, how to melt glass, glass recycling, melting glass at home, recycling glass, how to melt glass bottles at home, how to recycle glass at home, melting metal, DIY foundry, homemade foundry melting, glass casting, science projects and more!

      Ok the leidenfrost effect, then nothing can be frozen, plus if you drop on it, it may be denser than liquid nitrogen rather than bouncing on a surface, it sink and get frozen.

      Believe it or not, glass is made from liquid sand. You can make glass by heating ordinary sand (which is mostly made of silicon dioxide) until it melts and turns into a liquid. You won't find that happening on your local beach: sand melts at the incredibly high temperature of 1700°C (3090°F).

    • @TraceurArok
      @TraceurArok 7 років тому +2

      It's been done.
      The glass doesn't become a prince ruperts drop as the temperature doesn't drop nearly as fast as you'd think.
      The reason behind this is the Leidenfrost effect.
      The heat from the glass immediately vaporises the liquid nitrogen creating an insulating layer of nitrogen gas, and the only heat transfer which happens is through this insulating layer of gas.
      The glass doesn't shatter as the temperature change isn't extreme enough. There is no explosion, but there is a rapid boil which can be "explosive".

    You should try making your own glass. Like super heating sand.

    • @aidenleech2086
      @aidenleech2086 7 років тому

      you need much more than sand and it would be a process only a high-end company could make, though that would be cool

    • @sirboomtastic7376
      @sirboomtastic7376 7 років тому

      be interesting to try though, sand does need to be melted at slightly higher temperatures but that glass melted easily enough

    Maybe try having a metal pan on a grill to keeo it warm then get a blowpipe to blow the glass and use the pan or something else to shape it and hopefully the grill will keep it warm enough to take shape and not solidify. You could also try having someone with a blowtorch on the glass itself to keep it heated. I wanna see you make somethin outta glass its got me excited!

    • @mrbrown2186
      @mrbrown2186 5 років тому

      When blowing glass you use wet newspaper to shape it (while wearing a heatproof glove obviously)
