Nobody can label this tire for everyone. I use GP5000 35mm that measure 37mm, I use them on the road and cobbles standard cobbles or more diverse cobbles. 40mm P Zero Race TLR. Wasnt availible at stores. It is very picky for right PSI pressure on the road +/- 3 PSI from sweetspot tirepressure will feel sluggish or harsch. I think all those tires are cobble tires and can for sure not be used for gravelbikes. They will explode the same as 100% road bike they also explode with 35-40mm slicks with topend compounds
I have a gravel bike with two wheelsets - both 25mm ID. The “road” wheels are hooked, 50mm deep with Chris King hubs and GP 5000 AS TR’s in 700x35. My gravel wheels are hookless, 35mm deep with 47mm Pathfinder Pro’s. I would love to try those Pirelli in 40mm. I would race them on gravel if I felt the puncture resistance was there.
I'm running 35mm Panaracer Gravelking Slick on my 'winter' bike. The tyre claims to be a gravel tyre & it is tough enough for smooth gravel but there is no tread. It is a great road tyre for my typical pothole filled roads in Scotland. There are faster tyres but my lack of speed is first down to me, second the non-aero wheels, third the bike geometry (Cannondale Topstone AL) & only fourth the tyres. I'd be very tempted by these Pirelli tyres & I think they would just fit inside my mudguards.
I am currently running a 35 mm GP 5000 AS TR on my road setup rear on my Aspero. They balloon out to 37 mm with my wheels. (450g?) pretty heavy but a great all road tire for rough sections on my backroad rides
Currently building for my next Ultra Race. This year for TCR I used an Airstream Marathon with 32mm GP5000 ASTR, My new build is a 2023 Crus S-Works, was planning to go with 35mm GP5000 ASTR but now thinking about 40mm Pirelli PZero Race TLR. Criteria, good on road, good on gravel roads (many roads in Balkans, Greece, Turkey etc are Gravel), good punture protection, comfortable. The 32mm GP5000 ASTR is great with excellent punture resistance, however, a bit wider would be nice, if the 40mm Pirelli rolls well, maybe I should give it a go. What is your feeling?
I ran a set of the PZero Road TLR on a State Allroad Black Label for both daily commuting and road rides for about 6 months, they were fantastic. They were fast as hell and tough as nails, and while I did get two flats within about a month of each other, both times it was piece of radial tire wire that was needle sharp. Can't avoid what you can't see. I would still rate them a solid 9.
Any thoughts or updates on their performance??? I just ordered a set of these in 40mm to use on my Salsa Warbird for road rides on a set if Zipp 303 Firecrests. I hope they roll well because I'm a tire whore who has bought over a dozen sets of tires over the past year between my mtb and gravel bike in search of that perfect set for each bike. I've had several from Rene Herse that were amazing to ride but a bit too fragile. I also tried the new Good Year Vector 35's that are made to compliment my Zipp wheels and they were just plain awful, only two rides and off they went. I most recently tried the new 2024 GravelKing "R" slicks in a 40mm that are much faster than the Good Year 35's with loads more comfort but they are a bit draggy up hills. The new Perelli's are a bit heavier than the GK slicks in the same size but I'm hopeful that their "race" compound is superior to the GK's and will translate into a faster rolling tire on pavement.
I like the comfy road idea. I feel like all road bikes might come back into the fold for fun road rides. Gravel these days seems to be 42-55mm for my area as below 42 means you can't ride hard without it being sketchy. It seems the flatman gravel is between 38-45mm. And the road team is now around 30-35mm. I'm interested to see if road pushes up to 40mm at a higher or pro level, that would seem wild, but so did 32mm tires at the TDF 5 years ago.
@@Velo.MuertoI have been creeping up in size. I'm now at 30mm too. I really like it, but my one complaint is sprint out of the saddle is a bit squishy for my liking.
I ride slick Rene Herse Barlow Pass 38 tires on the road all the time. Spoiler alert. They’re no slower than 28s but soooo comfy AND I also ride gravel on them no problem. BTW - I’m on a 2023 gen 4 Trek Domane and there’s plenty of clearance for them.
seems like a good choice for the commuters among us to us add some comfort. I wonder about the rolling resistance compared to say the terra speed for example.
@@petersouthernboy6327 of course, specialist products will always win in their niche. but for most people, it's about comfort, safety and convenience. this is all led by mtb.
I guess we'll see tyres like these enter the Tour the France next year when they have that gravel-like stage or the Paris-Roubaix stage with al those cobblestone lanes... Trust me you those are hard on a cyclist!
I can’t conceive of 40 mil? I mean of course I would try it especially with a set of Pirelli’s like these, and my bikes have the clearances although my comfort zone is still in the 25-32 mill range with a set of Conti GP 5K…
i would love to put those on my grail but the damn new sram xplr wheels are not compatible with any proper tire. only the crappy good years and some schwalbe tires are safe according to the sram website :/
Because the math at the time is really pointing toward bigger tires being faster, but there will obviously be a point of diminishing returns. Let's just hope the industry has the good sense to know when to stop.
It’s simple math that’s been demonstrated a lot at this point. There’s obviously a point where it tips the other way but you literally cannot argue the math lol
All Slick road tires are ...Road tires or Fast touring if they are wide enough , like this Pirelli. There is no such thing as slick gravel tire, period. Selecting a slick tire for gravel roads You are just compromising your safety .

Put these on a Roubaix and float along.
Always wanted a Continental GP 5000 40c. Now this is a good replacement!
Road tyre for gravel bike, as most road bikes dont have clearance for 40s
New endurace bikes have 40mm tire clearance often 😁
I love the way you present and the ways your video is formatted. Quick and concise. Subscribed. 😊

Ive been enjoying wider road tires; specifically the Michelin Power cup and Power Adventure models- happy to see Pirelli is getting into the game now!
Did you weigh them? The pirelli website says 375g but it also says 375g for the 32mm version and 400g for the 35mm.
28-35 for road
38-45 for commuting
47+ for gravel

I just got a brand new carbon road bike with 30mm tires, and the ride is orders of magnitude more comfy than my CAAD8 on 25s. And faster.

I think we've started a new class of bikes, "all road bikes," like we have drop bar mtbs, new bike classes now. Getting closer to a N=1 answer.
Indeed, I am consolidating from 3 bikes (Road, Endurance, Gravel) to a single "All Road Bike"
Ultimately all gravel and road bike riders will tend to MTB, 1x, droppers, wide tires, disc brakes. it's taking time but we're getting there.
I came up through XC MTB racing - and *NO* MTB will roll as fast on gravel and tarmac as a gravel-specific race bike.

Hey bro What’s the embargo you mention about?
You put Reserves on your Fray? How is that working out?
this is absolutely going on my commuter eroad setup. The 28 mm Pirelli Cinturatos ride awful, and I’ve got clearance up to 40.
One day you'll see them winning at the Paris-Roubaix!
40? I just moved up to 30 mm balloons! 🎈😂
30 is still fine, above that-not so much
You didn't show rear tire clearance. That I would like to see. It seems very tight from IG post.
Yes please
Can’t focus on tread. I would guess these are slower than conti terra speed and maybe even race kings. On the road
I immediately thought of comparing them to terra speeds aswell.

I want a new Roubaix SL8 with this tire on it so badly.
I'd mount on my boost mtb for riding on my crappy asphalt roads.
Gravelking slick fast on road and pretty decent on gravel and even dirt.

Specialized Sawtooth 38 on my Roubaix. Nothing else

Road tires will end up wider than MTB ones at this rate.
I feel like this tyre is perfect for Paris Roubaix
Continental should make a GP 5000 TLR ST in a 45
Why not 50mm. Why not 70mm. The current logic is bigger is faster…. It’s kinda comical.
