I don't think there's necessarily a single historical real world culture that serves as the sole inspiration for the Mandalorians, but rather several. One likely inspiration that I feel often gets overlooked is the ancient Spartans. The Mando warrior ethos, and emphasis on instilling that ethos into the younger generations is very Spartan like. The design of the helmets worn by female Mandalorians, especially the Armorer also takes clear inspiration from the Corinthian helmet. A helmet commonly worn by ancient Greek hoplites, Spartans included.

Bro, Vikings had Kaiju, they had lots of Kaiju, they had an entire series of myths dedicated to the goodest boy Kaiju wolf, they even have their own word for Kaiju which is used as the name of one of their biggest Kaiju. Jourmungandr means like, giant beast or something, like how Kaiju means strange beast but is used to mean giant monster, so having Kaiju is totally a Viking thing to have.
Really Dave Filoni's Mandos are a hibrid cross of Viking and Samurai, the honor of a Samurai, but the ruthless efficiency of a Viking.

You know what I don't get? If beskar is such a light weight nearly indestructible metal. WHY do they not make some sort of Kevlar underlayer in their clothes or chainmail of some kind so they can protect the rest of their bodies.
They do, generally. Armorweave bodysuits are a common base layer for armor.
Probably due to how hard the metal is to forge. Chain making requires a lot of small scale movement with a very hot material. Beskar requires constant exposure to plasma flames in order to even approach its melting point. Notice the final stage of forging most of the armor is putting it in a stamp press? It needs industrial strength machinery to work this metal most of the time. Im sure a machine could manage to make chain from beskar but I doubt the operation life of such a machine isn’t very long considering the temperatures it would have to endure. The beskar shaping machine would have to be made mostly of beskar itself.
@@stevenschnepp576 If that was the case when mando slices his own leg with the darksaber he would not have hurt himself so badly. They may have Armorweave but it sure as hell isn't Beskar Armorweave.
Another thing to take into account with soft armor is back face deformation. Take standard 3A armor for instance. Yes, it can stop a 44 magnum but the back face deformation will still allow massive bruising and broken bones.

@@motherteresa8418 for the most part this is true. There hasn't been a mainstream presentation of Mandalorian society before the clone wars. The only people who have any real knowledge of pre-Clone Wars Mandalorian society are deep-lore fans such as many people who watch this channel probably are. One of the great things about the Bo-Katan quote that I mentioned is that it was said during the Mandalorian series; on the highly regarded second season finally, "The Rescue," nonetheless. To me, the quote reinforces your point about how little people actually know about Mandalorian society in depth... and in context of who Bo-Katan says this to, there are many Mandalorians who are unknowledgeable of Mandalorian culture.
