Nice reaction. In the words of Su-metal "Don't Think, Feel". Headbanger is an experience. She is singing about going to a number one fan going to their first metal concert by themselves. They rush to the front to headbang. They sing Hedoban which in Japanese is both headbang and number one fan. As the show goes on, they realize this feeling will never happen again. They etch it into their heart, so they never forget. Neck brace is a tribute to the drummer from X Japan who actually broke his Headbanging so hard while drumming. In their early days they did little tributes the legend of metal who came before them.
Metal Kingdom is the regal return of Babymetal to their own Kingdom. The stage in front of a live audience. Where they should be. Stage dramatics is no stranger to Babymetal. Their live shows from Japan often are Epic level shows. I wondered if they kept those thrones after the show and where do they keep them? And yup Moa is the one with the dimples. The foxhole is deep and full of surprises

Good double reaction. I wouldn't try to follow along with translated lyrics, they often don't translate very well and don't make sense or don't get a cultural reference, just watch and enjoy the performance (the choreo helps with translating their songs for those of us with no Japanese language skills). Either look up the translation first or ask us what it all means and we will explain in the comments.
As Su-metal once said "Don't think. Feel."
'Headbanger' was a song they first recorded - and this video was also made - in 2012 when Su-metal (lead singer) was 14, Yuimetal and Moametal were still 12, nearly 13.
It is about a girl taking the cheap student train tickets to go to her first concert on her 15th birthday. 15 is a significant age in Japan as it marks the end of compulsory education, so the girl is realising she will no longer be considered a child, life will never be the same and her first 15 years have passed by too quickly - so she is etching this special night of her 15th into her heart so she will never forget.
The cross is actually the lid of a coffin - they used it as a prop in some of their early concerts in tiny venues as well.
Su was holding up a cut off mic stand - they always use that when they perform 'Headbanger'.
The neck brace is another thing they have used in a lot of their lore and live performances (they have had concerts where everybody in the audience had to wear a neck brace - biggest of those was at Tokyo Dome in 2016 where they handed out 55k neck braces with LED bulbs to the audience - and another 55k for the second night).
It is also paying homage to Yoshiki - he is the founder, drummer, pianist and main composer with classic metal band X Japan. He damaged his neck headbanging and needed surgery and had to wear a neck brace most of the time afterwards, especially when performing.
The guy in white robes headbanging impressed the girls so much when they were making the video that they called him "Hedoban Kami " (god of headbanging).
The red moon in the window is a teaser for another song (recorded a year or two later) 'Akatsuki'.
At concerts in 2014 on or near their own 15th birthdays, half way through the song Su handed the mic and stand to Yui (in Paris) and Moa (in Cologne) and they took over lead vocals for the second half of the song while Su slotted into their place in the choreo.
The same thing happened again in 2020 on Moa's 20th birthday (another significant age as it marks the age of majority and they are officially adults).
'Metal Kingdom' is the opening track and intro for their most recent album 'The Other One' and this video was filmed in January at their first live shows in nearly 2 years (BABYMETAL Returns) at Makuhari Messe in Tokyo ... of course they used it for the epic, theatrical opening number.
I think you said it gave you an other worldly feel - which it should since this is a concept album about songs they discovered on 10 parallel worlds or in alternate realities while they were on their hiatus and not touring.

I would vote no for lyric video reactions. The choreo and the stage show is like half of babymetals entire show. So if you just watched lyric videos you would miss like half of the show. If you are worried about not understanding the lyrics I would suggest that you just read them before or after listening to the song. Also I would suggest that you react to live performances as much as possible since the live setting is where babymetal really shines.

With that advice, there's no point in buying BABYMETAL CD's, is there? And undoubtedly BABYMETAL is at their best live but why does everybody dismiss their MV's? They have a few truly phenomenal MV's that shouldn't be overlooked (admittedly "Headbangeeeeerrrrr!!!!!" isn't one of them). However, I agree: NO LYRIC VIDEOS!!! 🤘🦊🤘

@@Tyyppl What about "Doki Doki Morning"? Or ""Iine!"? How's about "BxMxC"? The beauty of MV's is that you can do things in an MV that can't possibly be done on stage. I will admit that the Budokan Black night version of "Iine!" does give the MV a run for its money but BABYMETAL dropped the rap section for a series of "Yo's" in all but the earliest of their concerts. My point is: yes, BABYMETAL is best live BUT they have very good music videos that should be watched as well. 🤘🦊🤘

    Came here for YUI ❤❤❤
awesome reaction, now you need to react to the early materials just like this one, the live version are the best of them.
My suggestion (all in live performances) :
    Catch Me If You Can
    Awadama fever
    iine
    Tales of destiny
    Headbangerrrrrrrr
    Gimme chocolate
Road of resistance (rising sun live version)
Headbangerrrrrrrr (night of 15 mix version)
All 4 of Black Babymetal songs
The list of super awesome performances go on....

Cool double reaction to watch one of the early era MV and one of the latest live footage thou with studio album track, gonna give you more info about it in my next comment, let's start with Headbanger!! or more correctly Headbangeeeeerrrrr!!!!! or just "HedoBangya" for Japanese pronunciation.
Headbangeeeeerrrrr!!!!! is one of their all time classic song and his among BM fans favorite.
The creepiness on the beginning is something many others fans notice about it, specially girls who didn't appeal to this song at the beginning but later at live concerts they understand the meaning and so much fun with the crowd interaction, plus the meaningful lyrics behind.
Song is about a 15 years old girl celebrating her birthday going to her first live concert, probably metal and one form the X-Japan, while having melancholy for leaving her childhood behind.
The MV contains tribute to Yoshiki, a living legend founder of X-Japan visual key band heavily inspired BM, he's a metal god among Japanese and even known around the world, he suffered serious injuries while headbanging during a live concert having to use neck brace after that to avoid hurting himself while recovering from these injuries. You'll find many more tributes to him such during Legend 1997 SuMetal 16 Birthday in 2013, highly recommend to watch live versions, MV are fine but when they really shine is at live shows specially with the blaster sound of the Kami Band behind.
The creepy long hair dude you saw is representing to the "Hedoban god", just like the Kami Band he's wearing burial white robes to represent that spiritual entity, the girls are summoning this metal god to possess the power, you'll see more representation of this when performing live and especially at Babymetal Death at Legend 1997 when wearing the neck brace you saw here.
The growlings aren't from any of the girls, those usually are backing tracks from no one special, but they add a good dose of metal element on the song for sure.
The last picture at the end is a hint to another song called "Akatsuk"i, which means "Crimson Moon" or Red Moon, is one out of four SuMetal's solo and of course is also recommended, live at Budokan 2014 it'll do the job.
    Next suggestion:
    - Road Of Resistance live in Japan (2015) official live MV.
Thanks for sharing this and see you next time. 🦊🤘🔥

And now welcome to BabyMetal's metalverse 🦊🤘🌐
This is why BabyMetal have no match among any other Japanese artists, top notch worldwide. Many others are finding Game Of Thrones resemblance on this stage setup, it just looks insane. The ten apostles are holding crossiers with "The Other One" logo which is similar to the infinite symbol "OO" and is the title of the 4th album. The girls are carrying some kind of trident similar to the Spear Of Destiny or Lance Of Longinus from Evangelion anime series, if you know MoaMetal you know you gotta be careful with her. 🔱
Here's some official info about this song:
      METAL KINGDOM (THRONE)
_It is a powerful anthem ushering in the beginning of a new era while also representing the power and courage to step forward into uncharted territory. The track conveys imagery of one rising powerfully from the throne of silence, with a suitable fanfare announcing this new beginning._
Ending January at Makuhari Messe, they held two big live shows returning to the stage after almost two years.
SuMetal and MoaMetal showing why they're a queen and princess deserving their thrones. Those freaking cinematic drone shots make you feel like you're in a movie. There's also a dance choreo version performed mainly outside of Japan during this recent World Tour and some fans witnessed this even more gorgeous performance.
This is a live proshot version from BabyMetal Returns The Other One live at Makuhari Messe 2023 (January) but with studio album sound, we already got a live sound version with the WOWOW broadcast and the DVD/BD version not only from this show but also BM Begins TOO live at PIA Arena MM.
We got so many big news and announcements back then, a new official member was announced to come next live shows in April 1st (Fox Day) when returning once again with another headlining shows at PIA ARENA MM Yokohama, if you don't know MomoMetal was the one blessed by the Fox God as a new official member, she's not here dressed like a dark empress like the rest of the girls because she wasn't official member yet but you'll see her dressed like this at PIA Arena MM performance.
Thanks for sharing this and see you next time.🦊🤘👑

Early on Babymetal used a lot of Goth and gothic imagery and iconography. Their costumes were based, in part, on the Gothic Lolita style out of the Harajuku district. In large measure this is because so many western metal bands used those symbols going back to Black Sabbath. None of it should be considered as overtly religious. The only overtly religious thing they have done was a Shinto ceremony to pray for the success of their first independent single (Megitsune). That was done as a partly promotional event with Tower Records Japan. There is a video out on UA-cam. The girls had such serious looks on their early teen faces.
Su-, particularly during her pre-Babymetal years at Actor's School Hiroshima, often wore crosses and even in one performance did a slightly mangled sign of the cross. She was about age 8 at the time. Never a crucifix, though.

    • @ParadigmaticReactions
      @ParadigmaticReactions  9 місяців тому +1

Interesting. I didn’t think it was overtly religious but was curious what the significance actually was. Thanks for the context.

I do not recommend making reactions to videos with lyrics, most are poorly translated or lack context, not to mention that most of the lyrics do not have big depth.
Babymetal's strength is the live performances, they are one of the best live bands in the world, the videos on the babymetal channel that say "official" do not have live audio, only the video.
If you want to get an idea of the song lyrics, you can read them translated before or after the reaction but generally you won't understand much. Also, usually in the comments they will tell you what the songs are about if you ask :)

You are way overanalyizing things, as most Westeners do. Not every little item has to have an explaination
    "Don't think, just feel." Su-Metal
There is plenty of time to go bck and delve into the layers of meanings, and w/ BabyMetal, there are many layer as even something that seems obviously simple leads to other infered significences.

    • @ParadigmaticReactions
      @ParadigmaticReactions  9 місяців тому

Maybe. It seemed reasonable to me that the things in the video were put there for a reason. That's been my experience generally and they do seem to have quite a bit of lore and associated imagery. I know I myself appreciate when details are noticed that I missed.

    • @Grington300

@@ParadigmaticReactions There are lots of things in the videos etc that are significant and were put in for a reason - but I think his point was that you are unlikely to guess those reasons on a first watch, just enjoy the sounds and visuals and come back to find out what was there and why later.
Andrew Hartley (Shakespeare Professor, Babymetal fan with ties to and some knowledge of Japan) has done an in depth analysis of every song and video on his channel where he explains all those little details - lengthy but interesting.
